Looking back at that young girl who 6 College Acceptances graduated from the school in June of 1969, I can’t help but 7 Academic Awards consider the tremendous influence that the school had upon me and my life’s choices and work. AMSU is where I learned about leadership that was grounded 8 Donor Societies in an obligation to serve others. Much like many of our current students, I was the first in my family to attend college. I credit my experiences at the Mount for setting me on a path that 20 Honorary Gifts opened the door to numerous possibilities and a rich and rewarding career in education that 22 Memorial Gifts was always predicated on the principle of Serviam. I am pleased to be joined at the school by a remarkable and dedicated team of fellow trustees who generously give their time and talents 26 Alumnae Donors by Class to the school’s success and growth. 32 Foundations, Gifts-in-Kind, Matching Gift Companies This past year has presented many unique and challenging situations for all Americans. Teachers and school administrators, in particular, have had to adapt to and address a whole range of instructional approaches as lessons and educational experiences are presented both in AMSU has made every effort to complete & present an accurate listing of all donations in this Annual person and remotely. We are so grateful to the truly amazing faculty and staff of the AMSU, Report. If your name is omitted or incorrectly listed, we apologize for this error. Please inform the Office who under the leadership of our dedicated principal, Sr. Jean Marie Humphries, osu, PhD, of Alumnae Relations and External Affairs of any corrections. have demonstrated unparalleled creativity, strength, and commitment to the Ursuline mission of the school. A stellar and successful Middle States Accreditation process in November of 2019, the high levels of college acceptances, scholarships, and grants which are outlined in this report are the result of rigorous academic requirements and high standards for each discipline. However, beyond these academic achievements and, perhaps, even more importantly in the face of this global pandemic, is the commitment to each student’s emotional and spiritual growth. This mission of educating young women of the Bronx in the Ursuline tradition has never been more compelling and relevant, especially as we celebrate our 165th anniversary as the oldest continuously operating school for girls in the United States. AMSU continues to be a place where we launch young women into the universe ready to realize their talents and make long-standing contributions. We recognize and are grateful for the strong financial assistance provided through the Ursuline Sisters and their provincial leadership. Serving a diverse urban community during these unprecedented times remains a financial challenge. Your contributions help make these educational opportunities available for those who have great financial need and help close the gap between tuition charged and the cost of a student’s education. Thank you for your on-going and generous support of the school as we celebrate its remarkable history and 165th anniversary. With gratitude, Diane Ramos-Kelly, Ed.D. We were enjoying learning and teaching in the classrooms then suddenly one day in March 2020, it all changed. We had to learn and teach remotely. St. Angela advised the Ursulines to change with the times, and that is exactly what we did! All at the Academy of Mount St. Ursula pivoted quickly and quite successfully to learning and teaching remotely through various online platforms. The wonderful courage and grace all displayed through these difficult times was amazing. Thank God we had purchased Chromebooks for each student the previous academic year, and had already started teaching periodically without textbooks, paper, and pencils. We had trial runs and were ready for this “new normal.” Since March 2020, we have kept to our routine of morning prayers, attendance, and daily instruction thru Google Meets, our school database system of Blackbaud, and online submission of work. Revenue: It has not been easy, but we continue to provide our quality Catholic education with Ursuline values to our young women of the Bronx, Manhattan, and lower Westchester. We have been educating young women since 1855, and we plan to keep marching forward no matter what adversity we encounter! Net Tuition & Fees $1,753 38% Some of our great accomplishments and events during the 2019-2020 school year include: Development Income $1,959 42% AMSU had a positive visit by Middle States Re-Accreditation Team in November 2019 with the receipt of Re-Accreditation for seven years in April 2020. Other Operating Income $ 929 20% AMSU’s volleyball team won the NY Catholic High School Athletic Association Division B Total Revenue: $4,641 100% City Championship for the third year in a row. Lady Bear Bingo was held in February 2020 which was a successful fundraiser and a fun opportunity for friends and supporters of AMSU to meet our great inspiring young women. AMSU held three smaller in-person and livestreamed Graduation ceremonies

  • Title: the Distribution of an Illustrated Timeline Wall Chart and Teacher's Guide of 20Fh Century Physics
REPORT NSF GRANT #PHY-98143318 Title: The Distribution of an Illustrated Timeline Wall Chart and Teacher’s Guide of 20fhCentury Physics DOE Patent Clearance Granted December 26,2000 Principal Investigator, Brian Schwartz, The American Physical Society 1 Physics Ellipse College Park, MD 20740 301-209-3223 [email protected] BACKGROUND The American Physi a1 Society s part of its centennial celebration in March of 1999 decided to develop a timeline wall chart on the history of 20thcentury physics. This resulted in eleven consecutive posters, which when mounted side by side, create a %foot mural. The timeline exhibits and describes the millstones of physics in images and words. The timeline functions as a chronology, a work of art, a permanent open textbook, and a gigantic photo album covering a hundred years in the life of the community of physicists and the existence of the American Physical Society . Each of the eleven posters begins with a brief essay that places a major scientific achievement of the decade in its historical context. Large portraits of the essays’ subjects include youthful photographs of Marie Curie, Albert Einstein, and Richard Feynman among others, to help put a face on science. Below the essays, a total of over 130 individual discoveries and inventions, explained in dated text boxes with accompanying images, form the backbone of the timeline. For ease of comprehension, this wealth of material is organized into five color- coded story lines the stretch horizontally across the hundred years of the 20th century. The five story lines are: Cosmic Scale, relate the story of astrophysics and cosmology; Human Scale, refers to the physics of the more familiar distances from the global to the microscopic; Atomic Scale, focuses on the submicroscopic This report was prepared as an account of work sponsored by an agency of the United States Government.
