POSTGAME NOTES GAME FIVE • LSU (5-1) AT MISSISSIPPI STATE (2-3) • SATURDAY, OCT. 5, 2013 • DAVIS WADE STADIUM TEAM NOTABLES • The Bulldogs scored 26 points. During the team’s 14-game losing streak to LSU, the program has topped 26 points just once, scoring 38 in 2000 during an overtime contest. • In three home games, Mississippi State has outscored the competition 105-35 in the first half, including a 70-14 advantage in the second quarter. • With the Bulldogs’ 252 yards passing, Mississippi State has topped the 200-yard aerial plateau in 16 of the last 17 contests. • MSU recorded 468 yards of total offense, surpassing the 333-yard mark for the 15th time in the last 18 games. • Mississippi State rushed for 216 yards, surpassing the 200-yard mark for the fourth-straight game, a first for the program since a five-game stretch reaching 200 or more ground yards from Oct. 2, 2010-Oct. 30, 2010. • The Bulldogs collected five rushes of 20 or more yards during the game’s 36 carries. Entering the contest, they had four rushes of 20 or more yards on 175 carries. • MSU averaged 7.0 yards per play. It is the fourth-straight week the Bulldogs have surpassed 6.0 yards a play. • The Bulldogs have recorded 1,990 yards of total offense in the last four games, an average of 497.5 yards per contest. • In three home games, MSU has racked up 1,575 yards of total offense, an average of 525.0 per contest. • Mississippi State has scored during 20 of its last 22 trips to the redzone, cashing in 14 touchdowns (12 rushing). • After yielding 4.0 sacks in the season opener against Oklahoma State, the offensive line has stiffened and surrendered just 5.0 quarterback drops in the last four games. • MSU committed its first turnovers since throwing an interception against Alcorn State. • Mississippi State has turned the ball over just three times in the last four games and entered the contest ranked 11th among FBS clubs in turnover margin at +1.3 per game. • The Bulldogs have forced at least one fumble in all five games this season and picked off one or more passes in the last four. • MSU has held its last three opponents to 19-for-52 on third down (36.5 percent). • LSU rushed for six touchdowns in the game. Opponents were 0-for-3 on fourth down entering the contest. MSU was one of nine FBS teams to not surrender a fourth-down conversion this year. • The Bulldogs recorded 3.0 sacks, tying the season high set at Auburn on Sept. 14. • The Tigers’ first touchdown in the second quarter marked the first points allowed by the Bulldogs in the second quarter of home games this season. • LSU’s 59 points were the most allowed by the Bulldogs since Tennessee scored 59 on Nov. 15, 2003. • Mississippi State returned four kickoffs for 109 yards. In three home games this season, MSU has totaled 225 yards on six kick- off returns, good for an average of 37.5 yards per runback. • Junior Jameon Lewis ran LSU’s first kickoff back 46 yards. The Bulldogs have three kickoff returns of 45 or more yards this season. • The attendance for the contest was 57,113, the fifth-largest crowd in Davis Wade Stadium history. POSTGAME NOTES GAME FIVE • LSU (5-1) AT MISSISSIPPI STATE (2-3) • SATURDAY, OCT. 5, 2013 • DAVIS WADE STADIUM PLAYER NOTABLES • Senior quarterback Tyler Russell threw two touchdown passes, surpassing Derrick Taite (1993-96/38) for the program’s career touchdown passes record with 39. • Russell’s two touchdowns accounted for during the game gave him 42 in his career, surpassing Wayne Madkin (1998-2001/41) and moving into a tie with John Bond (1980-83/42) for third on the program’s all-time list. Don Smith (1983-86) is the MSU career leader with 52 touchdowns accounted for. • In Russell’s last two games against LSU, he has completed 33-of-49 passes for 441 yards and three touchdowns. • Sophomore quarterback Dak Prescott picked up 103 rushing yards, giving him 289 in the last three contests. • Prescott ran for a 28-yard touchdown during the first quarter. In three home games this season, he has accounted for eight TDs. • In the last three games, Prescott has accounted for 841 yards of total offense, an average of 280.3 per tilt. • In the last four games, Prescott has rushed for six touchdowns. • Prescott’s 28-yard touchdown was the longest rushing score of the campaign for the Bulldogs. • Junior wide receiver Jameon Lewis caught seven passes for 111 yards. He has already established career highs in receptions and yards and in the last three weeks he owns 12 catches for 269 yards. • Lewis’ 111 receiving yards are the fourth most in a game by a Bulldog wide receiver during an SEC contest in the Dan Mullen era. • Lewis’ 201 all-purpose yards are the fifth most in a game by a Bulldog wide receiver during an SEC contest in the Mullen era. • In the last four games, Lewis has caught 14 passes for 304 yards, an average of 21.7 yards per grab. • Sophomore running back Josh Robinson has averaged 7.2 yards a carry in the last two weeks (12 carries for 86 yards). • Senior running back LaDarius Perkins rushed for a season-high 81 yards. • Senior free safety Nickoe Whitley picked off his third pass of the campaign and 13th of his career in the second quarter. Whitley is tied for the lead among all active FBS players with 13 career interceptions. • Whitley also increased his total to five interceptions in his the last five games played and to three interceptions in his last 11 quarters. • Whitley ended the game with a season-high eight tackles. In two league games he has booked 14 stops, an average of 7.0 a contest. • Redshirt freshman defensive end A.J. Jefferson recorded his first career forced fumble, jarring the ball loose from Kenny Hil- liard at the MSU one-yard line, keeping the Tigers out of the endzone. • Junior defensive end Preston Smith recorded a pair of sacks in the contest. He entered the game with 4.5 in his career. • Smith is the first Bulldog with two or more sacks in a game since Fletcher Cox booked 2.0 at Kentucky on Oct. 29, 2011. • Smith finished with a career-best three tackles for lost yardage. • Junior cornerback Jamerson Love recorded seven tackles, pushing his hit total in two league games to 12. Last year in eight conference contests, he booked 11 stops. • Freshman defensive end Chris Jones recorded his first career sack, dropping Zach Mettenberger for a loss of 10 yards in the second quarter. • Jones finished with 2.0 tackles for lost yardage, giving him 3.0 in the last two weeks. • Sophomore Devon Bell recorded his first field goal of the year within the 30-39-yard range with his 35-yard make in the first quarter. Bell had been 0-3 from 30-39 yards entering the contest. • Preseason All-American left guard Gabe Jackson started his 44th-consecutive game, which is tied for second in the FBS be- hind Georgia’s Aaron Murray (46)..
