Spring 2019 FROM THE DIRECTOR by Jerry Hogge

Wow, it’s April! The baseball and seasons are ready to go. It is hard to believe March Madness is over and the NBA and NHL are tuning up for the playoffs.

At Methodist we are in the home stretch of another semester and the students Downback are all ready for another round of internships. For all of you that have missed out on the pollen – yellow is beautiful! God has a way of remembering our school colors of green and gold.

As the snowbirds head back north I hope all of our southern professionals have had a successful season and are ready for some rest and relaxation. The rest of us are ready for a great summer of golf.

The University administration has approved the development of the new MU PGM Alumni Chapter and we are well on our way. I hope each of you have had a chance to read the emails regarding the benefits of alumni getting together whether in the golf business or not! When you make a gift of $50 or more we will send you an MU alumni bag tag (pictured at right). Hopefully, this summer we will be meeting in some major cities to get the ball rolling. My goal is to have at least half of our 1,200 graduates become involved.

Our administrative assistant recently sent out a request to alumni asking for your response on any charitable golf events in which you are involved. I am amazed of how much y’all do for your communities and friends who have had major health issues! If you have not responded to Ms. Lee at [email protected], please do so. We will send out a compilation of these events in the future.

This fall we are looking for a few host clubs to invite high school golf coaches, parents, and student for a Methodist PGM Showcase Event. We would like to hold the events in the Northeast and Midwest to initiate recruiting efforts with students that may be interested in a career in golf. We are looking at Richmond, VA; Washington, DC; Baltimore, MD; Philadelphia, PA; New York City area; Boston, MA; and Chicago, IL. If your club would allow us to host an event, please let Bob Bruns know at [email protected] or myself at [email protected].

Again, I would like to thank each and every alumni for believing in our Program and staff. You make all of us proud with your many accomplishments. Have a great season and don’t forget to follow the Men’s and Women’s Monarch Golf Teams as they pursue the next National Championship. Summer 2019 Internship Placement As one of the main requirements of the PGA Golf Management program, internships are both fundamental and critical for multiple reasons. Internships represent an integral link betweeen the academic knowledge and an understanding of day-to-day operations within the golf industry. It is on their internship that students learn how to practically apply the information they learn in the classroom, gaining valuable experience. Internships are also a valuable tool for students when building their network within the industry and assisting them in advancing their young careers. Below is a map and listing of where some of our students will be this summer.
