Paddock School Ensemble is proud to present Enchanted Sleeping Beauty for its spring musical. This is our 5th Anniversary show. You'll love this highly energetic version of the ever-popular story of Sleeping Beauty. The beautiful score adds charm to this classic tale. The king and queen of Never Nod have a new baby, Princess Briar Rose. The witch Evilina, who lives with a giant spider, black cat, and other evil minions, sets a terrible curse on the poor young princess. Sixteen years later, it's up to Prince Alexander to come to Briar-Rose's rescue and the court's too...for they are all asleep! The prince must battle a Wall of Thorns, a False Princess and, most frightening of all, the exalted Dark Knight! The zany, lovable characters and the score are as enchanting as Briar Rose herself. Tickets can be purchased at the door or reserved in advance by going to www.paddockarts.com. Tickets are $5. Please email Andre Zielinski at [email protected] if you have any questions.

SUPER U! CHALLENGE ASSEMBLY

4 of 14 4/19/2015 12:36 PM April Panther Press Newsletter from Stuart R. Paddock PTA https://ui.constantcontact.com/visualeditor/visual_editor_preview.jsp?age...

We are excited to announce that the second assembly brought to Paddock School by the PTA will be held on Friday, April 17th. Super U! Challenge (super YOU!) is an exciting, interactive with an important message for every student. It promotes a bully-free school environment by encouraging students to build positive character traits and identify (and stop!) bullying behavior. It's all about challenging students to become their own "personal super heroes" and let their best traits shine - at school and at home.

The Super U! Challenge is designed after classic Kid's TV game shows such as "Double Dare" and the current smash-hit "Brain Surge". During the 45-minute show, contestants from the audience are invited to take part in imaginative, funny, and wacky interactive challenges that involve oversize props, creative costumes, and yes...even some slime!

Each exciting challenge is based around a specific message about bullying and positive character traits that reinforces what students hear in school. The Super U! Challenge does not put students "on-the-spot" or require that they have memorized any facts. The only requirement of the hand-on challenges is that the volunteers (and the audience!) are ready to have fun. This means students from all grade levels can participate in the show!

In addition to helping kids identify bullying behavior and encouraging positive character traits, The Super U! Challenge also promotes teamwork and cooperation among students.

Topics highlighted in this program are:

Building friendships and trust Avoid being a bully How your actions build character Honesty Respect Being a part of a community Good Sportsmanship & Teamwork

his or her classroom for Paddock's annual School-Wide Day of Service on Friday, May 22nd. We're hopeful that all students enjoy this meaningful opportunity to engage in a service activity where each student will make a difference in the lives of other children.

This year, all students will support one organization, Naomi's Village, an orphanage and school in Kenya.

Here are some of the items your child may make :

1. Making beaded bracelets (students may make a brace- let for children in Naomi's Village or bring their brace- let home as a gift to remember their service day)

2. Creating tie-dyed hats

3. Sorting and creating birthday goodie bags

4. Making cards/writing letters

5. Decorating rulers

6. Decorating spiral notebooks

All families are invited to donate supplies for these projects. You are welcome to send the following items to the school foyer PTA bin (marked Service Day) by May 1st:

Plastic beads (we need lots to make 750+ bracelets) Colored/decorative duct tape, not grey or black (even partial rolls are appreciated!) 8 1/2 x 11" spiral notebooks in light colors (will be decorated) Miscellaneous goodie bag toys (like that would come home from a child's birthday or classroom party)

Please contact Julie Vander Ark (847-963-6346 [email protected]), Susanne Glazbrook (847-202-4708 [email protected]) or Gwen Reilly (847-502-8483 [email protected] ) with questions.

HOT CHOCOLATE SOCIAL RECAP

Thank you to everyone who helped make the first Paddock Hot Chocolate Social a success. We had a snowy night, and the hot chocolate was a perfect ending to it!

PANTHERFEST RECAP

We had a great turnout at Paddock's annual fun fair known as Pantherfest this past March 13th. Melted snow and warm weather helped to bring out approximately 240 students and siblings to the event. Children bounced, raced through an obstacle course, played games, and won cute prizes. Some children got their faces painted by Paddock alum Katie DeWitt and her friends from Fremd High School. Sue Conley ran the craft table, helping children make prince and princess hats and color. Peapod generously donated a $50 gift card so we could purchase some of the pop and snacks for the event. We had several volunteers from St. Theresa's Religious Education Program as well as student volunteers from Fremd and Palatine High School help with crafts and games. We had a lot of teachers sign up to help as well--thank you greatly! Finally, thanks to all the parents who pitched in to run games and concessions, monitor the inflatables, or work the check-in and the prize tables. The event literally could not run without over 80 volunteers donating their time to make it a fun evening for all. Thanks to all!

VALENTINE'S DANCE RECAP

A fun time was had by all at the 2015 Valentine's Dance! Over 150 parents and kids enjoyed dancing, games, a clown, cookie decorating, and refreshments. Thank you again to all our volunteers for making the night a success. And a special shout out to our dad DJ's Mehul Patel and Erin Morgan.
