High-A Central League Lake County scored first in the top of the third against TinCaps starter Matt Waldron. Brayan Rocchio reached on an but then got picked off of first and got in a between first and second base. The ball was thrown into left field allowing Rocchio to get to second base. LAST TIME OUT: Burns set a career high with six innings against the Dayton Dragons last Friday. He set down the first eight Dragons to come to the plate including five in the stretch. . The Captains offense supported Burns with two runs on a Will Brennan RBI double in the third inning. After standing runners on second base in the third and fourth Burns worked a 1-2-3 fifth to match his career high. In the top of the sixth Burns allowed a double down the first base line to start the inning. After a lineout to third base, a single but runners on the corners with two outs. Burns induced a groundball to second base and the Captains turned an inning ending to complete the day for

Burns. The Captains got insurance with solo home runs from Brayan Rocchio and Mike Amditis before tacking on four eighth inning runs on six singles. Dayton gave the Captains a scare with four runs in the top of the ninth but Kevin Kelly halted the comeback to give the Captains an 8-4 victory and notch Burns first professional win.

COLLEGE ACCOLADES: After a solid freshman campaign, Burns broke through in 2019 and was named a third team All-American by . Prior to the 2020 season Burns was Named Preseason All-SEC, Preseason All-America by Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, D1 Baseball and Perfect Game. In just four games in 2020 Burns was off to a hot start striking out 12.9 per nine innings and had a 3-1 record with a 2.42 ERA.

TEAM USA: In 2018, Burns was selected to the USA Collegiate National Team. Burns appeared in four games allowing five runs over 7.2 innings. He allowed nine hits, struck out six and walked one. Also on the team were back to back first overall draft picks Adley Rutschman (2019) and (2020).
