Remember that all donations are tax deductable and backed by two non profit companies with a 501c3 tax exception status. Below is some additional information about the non-profit companies and all they do for us. This year’s companies are The Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Center and The Harvey Milk Foundation. More information about them you can find below.

History of the Blue Ball: In the past two decades, an annual LGBT event in Pitsburge succeeded in raising more than $2 million for LGBT causes in the area. This year, to honor its 20th anniversary, Blue Ball offers even more innovative events, fresh venues, and a renewed commitment to fundraising. The concept was developed in 1991 as a community fundraising effort and, starting in 2002, was spear-headed by an LGBT grant-making agency referred to as Sapphire Fund. Community leaders such as Heshie Zinman, Kevin McNealy, and Jim Hamilton were among the original crafters of Blue Ball. Sapphire Fund president Domenic Gallelli has been involved with the occasion for the past 15 years and claims the event has grown steadily since its inception. The sapphire fund supports the efforts of organizations contributing to the health and well-being of Philadelphia's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community and those who support them. We are extremely proud to now introduce this event to Sacramento for its first annual Blue Ball and Black and Blue Festival

The Harvey Milk Foundation: The Harvey Milk Foundation was founded in 2009 by Harvey Milk's nephew, , as well as Harvey’s campaign manger and political aide, . The Foundation's efforts currently include encouraging local, regional, national and global organizations to embody and utilize Harvey Milk’s story, style, and collaborative relationship-building approach; to support LGBT youth; Speakers Bureau; and education emphasizing Harvey’s story. The Foundation also strives to tell the LGBT community’s collective story which is being told across broad and culturally diverse audiences. The Harvey Milk Foundation is the global organizer of Harvey Milk Day. The Harvey Milk Foundation also funds several elementary schools located in San Francisco and is currently fighting to bring equality in education and enforce a diverse school curriculum. The Once in a Blue Moon fundraiser is not affiliated with the foundation. This is a private event not a foundation event where they are beneficiaries.

The Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Center: MISSION STATEMENT The Sacramento Gay & Lesbian Center is dedicated to serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and community of the greater Sacramento area and surrounding counties. The Center and its allies also provide space, diverse programming, advocacy, and cultural activities in an affirming, compassionate, and safe environment. They also offer counseling, guidance, and support for the greater Sacramento community. The Center also provides AA and NA meetings to assist individuals in overcoming many of life’s challenges. In addition, there is a youth program that reaches out to our adolescence and guides them to recourses needed to enhance their lives. Furthermore, the Center also provides access to computers to facilitate and secure jobs or for educational purposes. Wind Youth Services Wind was first opened in 1994 by the Sisters of Social Service in a small space located next to Loaves and Fishes. Sisters Mary Anne Bonpane and Stephana O’Leary originally started the program as a daytime safe haven for homeless teenagers to seek refuge and receive survival services. As the awareness of the children’s needs grew so did the services the Center provided. The Center broadened its focus to provide programs that would offer tools and resources to teens and help them develop the necessary skills to break the cycle of homelessness. In 2001, the Wind Youth Services Shelter opened its doors in Carmichael as a result of grants from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Runaway and Homeless Youth Program and the United Way. In 2004 when the need for increased space was realized the Shelter moved to a larger 12-bed facility in North Sacramento. In 2003 the Wind Education Program was developed and operated from a facility across the street from the Center. This program provides and on-site accredited junior high and high school program that is in collaboration with the Twin Rivers Unified School District Community Collaborative Charter Schools. The students attend school five days a week, twelve months a year, earning credits toward graduation and improving their academic and social skills. In 2007 the Wind Staff’s dream was realized when the Wind Youth Center opened and housed both the Day Center and Education programs under one roof, effectively removing the children from the adult homeless population. This dream became a reality through the hard work and dedication of the Board of Directors, staff, local businesses, foundations and individuals who generously raised over $700,000 for the Capital Campaign.
