Glasgow City Councillor’s Report Malcolm Balfour-0141 287 3921 MoB:07881 282623. Drumchapel/. Ward 14 Judith Fisher- 0141 287 4150. Drumchapel/Anniesland. Ward 14 Please free phone RALF on 0800 37 36 35 to report pothole and road defects. Road railway bridge. Work to install new drains under the bridge completed. Drainage works on the sewage system in the area should also help improve drainage of surface water from under the railway bridge. Quite a bit of work has been done by Scottish Water in Drumchapel and the Yoker area to alleviate flooding. Question: Work to install large overflow underground tank at Kirkhope Drive. Will this have any effect on the surface water drainage? Answer: Not sure but can find out. The railway bridge is not sewage but surface water. There is another storage tank going in at the junction of Drumchapel and Canniesburn Road. These are being put in to stop raw sewage coming up drains in heavy rain fall. Question: The railway bridge flooding in Garscadden Road. We were informed was being reduced to a one in thirty year event. But they were now saying it was much less than this. SEPA have flood plans for West and flood prevention plans that councils are supposed to put in place. SEPA say that they can’t do anything as have not approached them.

West Dunbartonshire council have spoken to SEPA. Hence there are flood plans for neighbouring land in . SEPA apparently can’t take a reference from a private individual. Answer: There are longer term plans for flood prevention in the area. This includes Garscadden Burn. Will enquire and follow up. Am aware of these flood prevention maps. Question: The Kirkhope Drive tank is a sewage relief tank. Similar to the one installed in Crow Road North in the road north of Anniesland Library. This should stop raw sewage surcharging into Moraine Avenue in heavy rainfall. Currently in heavy rain raw sewage is being run off into the River Kelvin. The effluent runs off through a grating system to take solids out. The railway bridge flooding we were originally told was partly due to water running off railway track. But this is now being discounted. Answer: I have seen some flood plans. But am aware of longer term plans to widen the Garscadden Burn. But will check with SEPA. The work under Railway Bridge should help. Question: More houses are being built up in the Bishopbriggs/Kirkintilloch area which is discharging into the sewer system which runs through our area. This has caused flooding in the Shafton Avenue area. The system of holding tanks being installed is to try and reduce these incidents of raw sewage flooding. Answer: SEPA are installing these holding tanks. Cars and houses were being covered in raw sewage in Shafton Avenue. Concerns raised over drug dealing. Police had been round with leaflets. On the first Monday of October their will be a “drop in” event at Blairdardie Pavilion. Leaflets will be sent out regarding this event. It is open to anybody to attend. Hopefully people will come along. Lanes in North Blairdardie. It is now established that people who have bought their houses in North Blairdardie own the rear lane and are thus responsible for the upkeep of the section of the lane at the rear of their house. The GHA and Land and Environmental Services have come up with a proposed pilot scheme. This is proposed for houses that are in Sunnyside Drive and Place and back on to lanes leading to the station. Basically the lane from the Station to Kirkhope Drive. It is estimated fifty five houses in Sunnyside Drive are being invited to be part of the pilot project. Letters are being sent out to set up a “factoring” service. If it is successful the rear lane will be resurfaced, hedges and trees cutback and litter removed. If people do not “buy in” then nothing will happen. Question: A good idea and hope that home owners will buy into this. It may be that the city council will cut back overgrowing hedges etc. and then bill the home owner for the work. Factoring could share the work and tidy up these lanes. Answer: Probably will hold an initial meeting towards the end of October with the residents. New build of Blairdardie Primary School plans are well underway. Looking very good with an atrium being incorporated in design. Decision is being made on Thursday regarding these initial plans. Then it should go out for full public consultation. Plan shows a drop off access from Kearn Avenue. Drop off and pick up from school is currently a major problem. Concern over this being used as a “pick up”. But suggest we look very closely at plans. There will lifts in new school. Plan is still for Blairdardie Pavilion to be incorporated in new school with separate evening / night access. The pavilion may be demolished and the land sold for housing to off set cost. Looks like a four court sports hall. Hopefully building to start in summer of 2017 and children to be in new school in august 2018. The land at the Pavilion may be sold for “self” build housing units. The new pavilion being incorporated in the new school is adding around £1 million to the cost of the new school. This is still a draft proposal. St Ninians Primary School most of the internal refurbishment completed. Outside railings to be painted. The outside front gates should be installed during the October holiday break. The road markings re-painted. Lights now “on” at school. New bins on lamp posts on Blairdardie Drive. Keal Crescent and Keal Avenue to have their pavements resurfaced in this financial year. My monday surgery times have changed. Question: Any chance of a play park like Gorget Ave being installed in the Blairdardie

area? There are a lot of new families with children moving into the area. Answer: Will investigate if this is possible. Finding space might be a problem. Question: Disappointed that new school drop off and pick up at Kearn Avenue. Answer: New school will face Great Western Road. Suggest as many as possible make comment’s regarding pick up and drop off zone for new school. Thought there may have been access from Blairdardie Drive. Irresponsible parents parking at schools is major issue at primary schools. One third of pupils at Blairdardie Primary are “placing requests” from out with the school catchment area. Thus some parents have to use transport. Question: Due to cars parking on pavements can’t take a pram along a pavement. Answer: Understood were bringing in legislation regarding this. Question: Fly tipping in Keal Avenue at car park. Answer: Will follow up. Question: Railings being painted. Work stopped. Answer. Ran out of paint. More work to be done round the multi storey flats area. Question: Could more activities be brought in to the Blairdrum? Links run a project at Lincoln Avenue flats in conjunction with Glasgow Life. They have paid workers. Could GHA possibly help? There was a Glasgow Life project some years ago but the project ran out of funding. Question: Street sweeping in Moraine Avenue and drive area. Weed killing some work required at Cloverbank Nursery school. The road railing/barrier outside Cloverbank Nusery at 188 Moraine Avenue requires bolting as it is loose. Resurfaced junction at Drumchapel Hospital. It is claimed the Keep Clear is on the wrong side of the road. Hedges require cut and rubbish being dumped in to park area at rear of Moraine Avenue from No 188 Moraine Avenue to boundary with East Dunbartonshire. Can houses be lettered re hedges and stop dumping garden waste into this area. Answer: Will follow up. But it is not possible to increase number of grass cuts. Question: Large lorries parking on Great Western Road near Key Store beyond bus stop. Very difficult to exit from Keal Place to Great Western Road. Could yellow lines go down? Answer: Requires a road traffic order. Will enquire with traffic department. 6. Contact Susanne on 01324 677822 at the Waterways Trust regarding any events planning for our “area” of the canal. We need to publicise the centre better. 15. Any Other Business: Aldi have been granted planning permission by the court of Session on Edinburgh.
