Please use the named referral to Public Teaching Hospital outside catchment area protocol when the Public Teaching Hospital associated with the client’s postcode lacks an ophthalmologist with a required speciality. Please note that named referrals for public patients are appropriate only rarely and contact the ophthalmology registrar beforehand for approval. The only patients that FHS accepts out of catchment are emergency retinal detachments for urgent surgery. These need to be accepted by Dr Yellachich or Dr Kang before they are allowed to be sent to the department.
