FFSC Pursuit Race Sunday 22 August 2021 NOR & Special Instructions

These details replace paras 5 – 13 of “Sailing Instructions for Club Racing “, https://ffsc.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Sailing-Instructions-for-Club-Racing-2.pdf , with which they must be read. Paras 4, 15 and 17 can also be disregarded.

5. Schedule/Notice of Race – Pursuit Race HW 12:34 3.64m 5.1 The first (slowest boat, 4.7) start will be at 11:24 BST on Sunday 22 August 2021. Faster boats will start later (see 11.7 below).

6. Class Flags 6.1 There will be no class flags

7. Racing Area 7.1 The racing area will be as specified in the course description.

8. The Course 8.1 The course will be displayed on a board on the foreshore side of the portakabin.

9. Marks 9.1 Marks will be selected from navigation buoys, club racing marks, permanent racing buoys, and other marks. A chart showing the approximate location of these marks will be displayed with the course.

10 Obstructions 10.1 The Groynes. Boats shall pass on the channel side of the post at the end of the all Groynes while Racing. 10.2 The Jetties. Boats shall pass on the channel side of the post at the end of all Jetties while Racing.

11 The Start (“Le Mans” start) RRS starting stipulations will be modified as follows: 11.1 The start will take place on the foreshore in front of the Clubhouse. 11.2 There will be no Warning Signals. There will be no flag signals. 11.3 Boats will start at their class start times, see 11.7 below, as displayed on a clock near the starting area and course details. 11.4 Each class will be given a count-down to their start sound signal by the Race Officer on the foreshore. 11.5 Boats must be held by a crew member (not an assistant) standing on the beach (in the water permitted) until the start sound signal. 11.6 Recalls. If the RO deems a boat has started early a second sound signal and hail(s) will be made and the boat(s) will not have started correctly until held by a crew member standing on the foreshore to the satisfaction of the RO. There will be no general recall(s).

Times for classes not listed can be provided at the start, or contact 07986337645. If conditions are unfavourable a shorter race may be sailed with revised class start times.

12 Sailing the course 12.1 A pathfinder boat, displaying Numeral Pennant 1 , will lead the way round the course about 50m ahead of the leading boat at any time, rounding each buoy on the appointed side. If this boat has to cease leading, eg, to attend to safety, this pennant will be removed. 12.2 Changes to the position of marks will not be signalled, but the pathfinder will lead the way. The Race Officer can move the next at his absolute discretion. This changes RRS 33. 12.3 Any repeat laps of the course will be sailed until the race finishes. There is no specified number of laps.

13 The Finish 13.1 The Race will be finished on the water at 13:30. 13.2 The leading boat will be finished with a sound signal from a (committee) boat on the course at 13:30. 13.3 Following boats will be finished on the water as soon as possible after 13:30, moving down the fleet, this order being their finish ranking. 13.4 To help establish the correct ranking, sailors are advised to keep near the centreline of the leg of the course if beating or tacking downwind, and to note the boats next ahead and behind, at the 13:30 finish.
