4. Christmas

There was a discussion where members provided feedback on all the Christmas arrangements.

Resolved:

(1) As the tender is going out this year for the installation of Christmas lights etc in the town, that the following should be included in the tender documents:

• having a Christmas Tree in Turf Square; • to state the importance of green energy, and make it a condition that Christmas lights are put on a timer, and therefore not switched on during the day; • to include a condition that it would be possible to remove the Christmas lights by the 6th of January 2022; • to look at getting a real Christmas Tree on Castle Square (similar to the example seen at ).

(2) To ask the Clerk to send a letter of thanks to all schools who had sent posters they had made to Ysbyty and other health organisations.

(3) With regard to the winning poster competition for schools, to recommend that the prize should go to the winning child rather than to the winning school. (4) That the procedure of Head Pupils at Ysgol Syr judging the Shop Window Competition be continued. (5) To recommend that a system / forum be created so that sixth form pupils meet with the Town Council approximately every 6 months in order to engage with the democratic process. This was particularly important as 16 - 17-year-olds are given the right to vote in some elections.

5. St David's Day

The way forward regarding St David's Day arrangements this year was discussed, as it would be impossible for the usual arrangements to take place because of Covid-19.

Resolved:

(1) Not to hold the St David's Day Parade this year due to Covid-19. (2) As schools do not open in the normal way until at least February half term, instead of using an artist in residence to undertake artwork with schools, that a school poem writing competition should be held. (3) That 6 individual competitions should take place, that is competition for:

• Foundation Phase (Years 1 and 2). • Years 3 and 4. • Years 5 and 6. • Years 7, 8 and 9. • Years 10 and 11. • Years 12 and 13.

(4) To recommend that the theme for the competition should be " Today", and it is recommended that the poet Rhys Iorwerth be asked to judge the competition. (5) That the Town Council should prepare a St David's message on their website and on the Facebook site. (6) That the children should be filmed reading their winning poems. (7) To recommend a medal and a £ 10 prize for the winners.

The meeting concluded at 6.25 p.m.
