Rev. Dr. Mathew Vattathara took over as Director of RSET, from Rev. Fr. Jose Alex Oruthayappilly on January 3, 2018. A renowned teacher of Mathematics, EDITORIAL BOARD Fr. Mathew Vattathara obtained his doctorate from the University of Louvain, Belgium. Dr Vinod Kumar P.B. He was the Provincial of the CMI Sacred Heart Province from 2002 to 2005, and has held the positions of the Director of AMLED School, Dubai; Manager Dr Sonia Paul & Coordinator of Rajagiri Institutions, and Principal of Rajagiri School, Kalamassery. 1st INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON GREEN BUILDINGS AND SUSTAINABLE ENGINEERING

The 1st edition of the International Conference on Green Buildings and Sustainable Engineering, GBSE 2018, conducted on January 24 & 25, 2018, was inaugurated by Dr. Syed Ibrahim, Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kerala. The conference conceived around the theme Transforming our Built Environment through Innovation and Integration towards a Smart and Sustainable Future, was organized by RSET in association with Research & Testing Centre for Thermal Solar Systems (TZS), ITW, and University of Stuttgart, Germany.

A preconference workshop was conducted on January 23, 2018 in which Mr Sandith Thandassery, CEO, NavAlt Solar & Electric Boats handled the session on Solar & Electric Boats, and Mr T. P. Madhusudhanan, Chief Consultant, Habitat Group, handled the session on Sustainable Building Technology.

The conference featured two panel discussions, one on Sustainable Habitats for Smart Cities, and the other on Challenges for Smart City Implementation. An Indo-German Dialogue and Exposition on Smart and Sustainable Habitats (SASH 2018) was also conducted during these days. SASH 2018 brought together green building advocates, policy-makers, architects, vendors, researchers, infrastructure developers and providers of smart and sustainable solutions for Smart Cities, and was organized in collaboration with Technical University of Stuttgart, Ravensburg-Weingarten University and Aalen University. It also had the backing of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. The exhibition showcased the products and services of different companies related to Smart Habitats and Sustainable Habitats.

A cycle rally, Cyclothon, was also organized to spread the message of sustainable mode of transportation. Competitions such as the Grand Cycling Challenge and Reverse Cycling Competition added colour to the event. GBSE 2018 was organized by the departments of Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. The Eighth International Conference on Advances in Computing and Communications (ICACC-2018) was held from September 13 to 15, 2018. The theme of this year’s conference was – Futuristic Technologies for a Digital World. The conference included a peer reviewed program of technical sessions and workshops. Invited speakers at ICACC 2018 included Prof. L.M. Patnaik, IISc, Bangalore; Dr Vinod Aggarwal, PES Institute of Technology, Bangalore; and Mr Sohan Maheshwar, Amazon. The highlight of ICACC 2018 was the panel discussion on The Floods, Gadgil and Mullaperiyar: A Scientific and Technological Response, which featured Dr Muralee Thummarukudy, Chief, Disaster Risk Reduction, UN Environment Program (via Skype); Mr P. T. Thomas, Member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, Thrikkakara & Advocate of Gadgil Report; Dr C. K. International Workshop and Conference on Topology and Applications (IWCTA 2018), in honour of Prof. T. Thrivikraman, was organized at RSET from December 5 to 11, 2018. Dr Vrinda Nair, Dean of Research, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University inaugurated IWCTA 2018. The workshop was held from December 5 to 8, and the conference from December 9 to 11, 2018.

IWCTA featured 43 workshop lectures, 11 plenary talks, 14 invited talks and 82 contributory papers. The invited speakers at IWCTA included Prof. A.N. CENTRE FOR TOPLOGY AND APPLICATIONS

In order to enrich the research culture in Mathematics and its applications, a Centre for Toplogy and Applications (CETA) has been established at RSET. The activities of CETA are supported by the Department of Science & Technology (DST) and the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM). CETA promotes research in Topology, Dynamical Systems, Morphology, Fractals, Graph Theory, Operator Theory and related areas. The existing collaborations in Mathematics research with institutions in India and abroad will be strengthened and formalized by CETA. The International Workshop and Conference on Topology and Applications (IWCTA) was the first step of CETA towards launching the three year continuous research programmes with IIT Delhi and University of Hyderabad in India, and various institutions in USA, UK, Germany, France, Russia, Japan, Australia, Hungary, Ukraine and Spain.
