The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph December 31, 2017 My eyes have seen your salvaon, which you prepared in the sight of all the peoples. —Luke 2:30-31 San Francesco Di Paola San Antonio, TX DECEMBER 31, 2017

The Caritas Corner We recently had the heartwarming experience of helping two families in need. The first was an active duty Air Force Sergeant and his family. The sergeant's family has extensive medical issues. He was stationed in Germany, but was forced to put in for a transfer to the US because his base did not have the medi- cal capabilities his family requires. Thus, he transferred to Lackland AFB. Unfor- tunately, the family had to leave their vehicle behind in Germany for regulatory reasons, and the 2nd hand car he purchased to transport his family to their medi- cal appointments broke down. The Caritas Fund was able to solve his transporta- tion issue and get his car back on the road.

The second case was a referral from San Fernando Cathedral and involved a single mother and her three small children. The father now lives in another state and is avoiding any support. At one point the young mother was homeless but was able to get a steady , but recently was let go rather than being allowed to go on maternity leave. While employed she secured an apartment but is now in arrears on rent and utilities and faces eviction. She has a lead on a new job but that might be a month away. The Caritas Fund was able to cover all past bills and pre-pay rent and utilities through January 2018. Additionally, a generous Society member provided a $500 gift card to the family for Christmas gifts.

This Caritas Fund is administered by the San Francescani Society and funded through the second collection normally on the third Sunday of each month. Its purpose is to assist recipients – who through no fault of their own have fallen on hard times and have recognizable needs to help get back on their feet.

In addition to the once a month second collection, the Caritas Fund accepts individual as well as business donations. Donations can be mailed to: Henry Garcia, Treasurer, San Francescani Society, P.O. Box 782474, San Antonio, TX 78278-2474.

We are continually looking for additional brothers and sisters in need. Referrals can be made to Ralph Paglia, Society President, by leaving a message at the SFdP office at 210-227-0548.

Thank you for your continued generosity and support. We especially thank the Daughters of for their recent very generous donation to the fund. Merry Christmas!

San Francescani Society
