Meet The Team Terry Bond • I have previous experience leading on an explorer belt having held the role of assistant leader back in 2012 on the West Lancs Explorer Belt to • I am an experienced Mountain leader and enjoys exploring the Lake District and all it has to offer. • In my spare time I likes listening to Led Zeppelin and reading the Jack Reacher books. Alison Walmsley • Alison is both a Cub Scout Leader in Walton le dales as well as a ADC Cub leader in South Ribble. • Alison has now got the bug for International having been part of the leadership team that took 36 young people from our county to the 24th WSJ in America . Also has experience as an expedition medic with Raleigh International which saw her travel around Malaysia for 3 months. • Alison is an experienced senior nurse with a back ground in Accident & Emergency. More recently she is the Clinical Education Lead responsible for the continued professional development of Medical Students , Newly qualified Nurses, and other health care professionals Alice Holden • In my professional life I work at a college helping young people find apprenticeships and make decisions about their future. • As I live up in Newcastle the role I currently hold in county is deputy district youth commissioner for Lonsdale. • Back in 2015 I was a participant on the 2015 West Lancs Explorer Belt to . • In my spare I enjoy cooking (and eating!), and I have recently moved into my first house so I am learning a lot about DIY and renovation. Stefan William • I have recently completed my Explorer Belt in and with Fylde District • I work as a Secondary School Science teacher at Rainhill High School in Merseyside • I have been an Assistant leader in Fylde District and North Yorkshire • My current role is the District Explorer Scout Commissioner (DESC) for Ormskirk Jon Nutten • I am a Product Engineer in Telecommunications and often called disruptive - prefer ‘Positive Disruptor’ with a passion for new and emerging technology. • In my spare time I enjoy walking/climbing in the Lake District and a avid DIY fan, converting a property into 2x flats. • I’ve been fortunate to work attend on 2x World Scout Jamboree’s part of the UK Contingent CMST (Comms Role – Japan, Unit Support – North America) • I’ve enjoyed a variety of volunteers roles in the County from a Assistant Scout Leader through to the a range of roles with the County Media Team. • I am currently ADC Communications for South Ribble District West Lancs Scouts Explorer Belt 2022 The Baltic States: Latvia, Lithuania & Estonia

How The Explorer Belt Works - Expedition

Undertake a 10-day expedition as part of a team* with a minimum traveling time of 50 hours over the 10 days, by foot, cycle, horse, canoe, boat or dinghy. The use of public transport is acceptable as part of the traveling time, where opportunities to meet people would otherwise be missed. *Minimum starting number of young people per team is three with a minimum of two per team completing the expedition.

• Keep a logbook of the expedition which records places visited, the route is taken, project work undertaken, and personal thoughts.

• Complete one major project selected by the team which is undertaken throughout the expedition.

• Complete at least ten minor projects which may be chosen by the team, leadership team, peers, or a mixture of these.

How The Explorer Belt Works - Projects

Major Project

• Complete one major project selected by the team which is undertaken throughout the expedition

• You may choose to use your project to plan your route, or use locations you wish to visit to inspire your project

Previous examples of projects have included: National sports, folklore, architecture of churches, accessibility of public transport

Challenges

• Once in country you will receive ten smaller projects to complete throughout your 10 day expedition

• These will be set by someone back in county

• The challenges are designed to stretch you- you may have to get creative!

Presentation

• Once you are back from your expedition you will give a presentation about your trip

• This is your chance to explain the findings of your project and your ten small challenges

Finances West Lancs Scouts Explorer Belt 2021 How The Explorer Belt Works?

Finances

• Total Trip Costs = £1000 - 1050

• To be paid to us = £370 – 420 (Paid in instalments)

• To be paid by you = £630 (This includes the following expected costs)

• Return transport to Vilnius from Manchester = £230

• Transport = £100, Accommodation = £150, Food = £150 (Estimates, but you may wish to spend more)

The cost of the should never be an obstacle to stopping a young person from applying, with fundraising and grants everyone should be able to go.

Money paid too us will include the following:

• Training weekends • Polo shirts/badges/neckers

• Emergency vehicle hire and fuel • Unity Insurance – Scouts Insurance Company

• Final presentation expenses • Final night meal/celebration

• Accommodation pre/post expedition
