Last.fm Wants to Become the Web's MTV 10 May 2007 Online social music site Last.fm is moving into the video realm, adding music videos with a goal of providing every video ever made. The site, which provides music recommendations based on user preferences, will be leveraging its music label relationships to bring artist video content to members. Users who currently sign up at Last.fm site provide it with the names of their favorite artists and the site then generates streaming music recommendations based on those entries. A plug- in also lets the site determine which music users actually play. Listeners then vote on whether they love or hate those recommendations, so that Last.fm has a better idea of what that user might enjoy. Last.fm intends to use the same model for music video content in order to create personalized video channels. The site promises higher quality than that of YouTube, with audio encoded at 128 Kbits/s on Last.fm compared to YouTube's 64 Kbits/s. Last.fm boasts partnerships with major labels like The EMI Group and Warner Music Group in addition to approximately 20,000 independent labels like Ninja Tune, Nettwerk Music Group, Domino, Warp, Atlantic and Mute. The intent is to have every music video ever made available on the site, "from the latest hits to underground obscurities to classics from the past," according to Last.fm. In November of last year, Last.fm launched a system that provides suggestions on upcoming performances based on user location and taste in music. -

A Tal Samuel-Azran* Review of the Evidence Sammy Ofer School of Communications, The Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya, 1 Kanfe Nesharin Street, Herzliya 46150, Israel Abstract *Corresponding author: Tal Samuel-Azran Some scholars argue that following 9/11Al Jazeera has promoted an Arab perspective of events in the US by exporting its news materials to the US news market. The study examines the validity of the argument through a review of the [email protected] literature on the issue during three successive periods of US-Al Jazeera interactions: (a) Al Jazeera Arabic's re-presentation in US mainstream media following 9/11, Sammy Ofer School of Communications, specifically during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq (b) Al Jazeera English television The Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya, 1 Kanfe Nesharin Street, Herzliya 46150, channel’s attempts to enter the US market since 2006 and (c) the reception of Israel. Al Jazeera America in the US, where the paper also adds an original analysis of Al Jazeera America's Twitter followers profiles. CBS News Archives, Our Efforts in Preservation and End with Some Suggestions Addressing the Mission of This Panel
DOUG MCKINNEY, DIRECTOR, CBS-NEWS ARCHIVES FOR ORAL PRESENTATION TO LIBRARY OF CONGRESS STUDY RE TV . PRESERVATION (3/19/96): It is with a combination of some relief and awe that we come before this panel, the nature of which has been imagined as a hoped-for eventuality, now gladly arrived. While many eloquent voices are here to cry, we no longer face such a wilderness. The preservation of entertainment programming as it applies to CBS will be addressed by other counterparts at the Los Angeles hearing. Today, in tandem with Mr. DeCesare, I will focus my remarks on the nature of CBS News Archives, our efforts in preservation and end with some suggestions addressing the mission of this panel. CBS has the largest collection of its kind among the major networks, having kept and maintained more material generally in addition to having started earlier. Dating principally from 1950 to the present, CBS News Archives has well over a million videotapes, including original field cassettes as well as program broadcasts, and several million feet of hard news film, as well as 80,000 containers of film and tape masters, . prints, program negatives and outtake material from long-form documentaries and news magazine programs. All materials are stored in Manhattan on approximabely 60,000 square feet of climate-controlled space. (All nitrate film was transferred to safety stock some years ago.) In addition,. copies of the CBS Evening News from the mid-'70s to present, and of many other CBS News broadcasts including special and documentary programs are on deposit at the National Archives via Library of Congress copyright registration. -

10.21.2016 AFP -SERVICES SELECTED TO PROVIDE COVERAGE OF THE MTV AFRICA MUSIC AWARDS AFP-SERVICES IS PROUD TO HAVE BEEN SELECTED AS THE EXCLUSIVE PHOTO PROVIDER FOR COVERAGE OF THE MTV AFRICA MUSIC AWARDS JOHANNESBURG 2016 AS WELL AS THE PROVIDER FOR VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE INTERNATIONAL BROADCAST MARKET.
