Chris Graham Matt Troha Commissioner www.midwestconference.org Sports Information Director [email protected] [email protected] -- Feb . 28, 2007-- Midwest Conference Men’s Carroll’s Drury Named Player Of The Year; Lake Forest’s Conger Top Coach RIPON, WIS. -- Carroll senior Nathan Drury was named the 2006-07 Midwest Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Year, making him --2006-07 MWC ALL-CONFERENCE-- the first Carroll player to receive the award since the elimination of divi- sional play in the MWC, as league coaches released their voting on the MWC PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2006-07 MWC All-Conference Teams and annual award winners. Drury Nathan Drury, Carroll College led the Pioneers to a 16-8 overall record during the season, including a 12-4 mark in MWC play and the first MWC Tournament title in school history. The 6-2 guard is currently third in the MWC in scoring at a 19.5 MWC COACH OF THE YEAR point per game clip and leads his team in rebounding (4.6 rpg). Brian Schmitting C Sr. Ripon College Lake Forest head coach Chris Conger was named the MWC Coach of the Year after leading a young Forester squad to a 15-10 overall record, a 10-6 mark in MWC play and a berth in the 2007 MWC Tournament. SECOND TEAM Once arriving at the tourney in Grinnell, the Foresters became the Buck Colomy F Sr. Carroll College second No. 4 seed in league history to upset the top seed in the tourney Mark Gillingham G So. Conger was the MWC Coach of the Year during the 1999-00 season and also shared the honor as Co-Coach of the Year after the 1997-98 campaign. HONORABLE MENTION Keith Chamberlain C Jr. Grinnell College A pair of sophomore guards from MWC Champion Grinnell highlighted the All-MWC first team, as David Arseneault (18.7 ppg) and John Mike Dowden G So. Grotberg (28.1 ppg) were both selected. Arseneault led NCAA Divi- Andy Hurley F Jr. Lawrence University sion III in assists (203) this season, while Grotberg ranked third in DIII Tony Jandron G Fr. St. Norbert College in scoring. Three seniors, including Carroll’s Drury, rounded out the Adam Ligocki F Sr. Carroll College All-Conference first team, as Ripon center Brian Schmitting (17.7 ppg, David McMullen G Sr. Ripon College 10.0 rpg) and Knox forward Jason Maclin (19.5 ppg, 6.9 rpg) were Blaise Rogers G/F Jr. both named first teamers for the first time in their careers. Schmitting Raun Singleton G Sr. Monmouth College averaged a double-double and led the MWC in rebounding and field-goal Joe Terwelp C Jr. Monmouth College percentage (.647), while Maclin ranked in the top five in the conference in scoring, rebounding and assists (77).

Lake Forest landed a pair of players on the All-Conference second team, as senior forward Brad Wehner (11.4 ppg, 62 assists) and junior forward Laird Walker (11.4 ppg, 7.4 rpg) were both selected. Drury’s high school and college teammate Buck Colomy (10.7 ppg), a senior forward, was a second-team pick, while sophomore guards Mark Gillingham (16.0 ppg, 4,1 rpg) of and Ryan Kroeger (16. 1 ppg) of Lawrence filled the final two spots on the second team.
