E IT ENACTED by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present BParliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:— 1 Holocaust (Return of Cultural Objects) Act 2009: repeal of sunset provision In section 4 of the Holocaust (Return of Cultural Objects) Act 2009— (a) in the heading, for “, commencement and sunset” substitute “and commencement”, and (b) omit subsection (7) (which provides for the Act to expire after 10 years). 5 2 Extent, commencement and short title (1) This Act extends to— (a) England and Wales, and (b) Scotland. (2) This Act comes into force on the day on which it is passed. 10 (3) This Act may be cited as the Holocaust (Return of Cultural Objects) (Amendment) Act 2018. The John Lewis Partnership welcomes the opportunity to submit written evidence to the Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee’s inquiry into innovation and productivity in social enterprises and employee owned businesses. 2. The Partnership is the largest employee-owned business in the UK. All 88,700 permanent staff are Partners who own 46 John Lewis shops across the UK, 346 Waitrose supermarkets, an online and catalogue business, waitrose.com, johnlewis.com, a production unit, a farm and a financial services arm. The business has annual gross sales of over £10bn. In Scotland the Partnership operates 3 John Lewis shops, 7 Waitrose supermarkets and a contact centre. 3. John Spedan Lewis, son of our Founder, John Lewis, was inspired by the desire to innovate and improve the capitalist system. In 1914 he had the opportunity to put his principles into practice when his father gave him control of Peter Jones, a small shop trading on Sloane Square in London. The young Spedan promised his staff that when the shop became profitable they would share in these profits, the first step in his long- term plan to turn his employees into Partners. He fulfilled this promise just 5 years later when every member of staff received the equivalent of 5 weeks of extra pay. Ten years later, he created a trust to take over the assets of the company and run it as a Partnership thus creating our modern co owned business in 1929. Spedan created a second irrevocable trust in 1950 when complete ownership was transferred to Partners working in the business. -

The results were based on data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and contractor sentiment indicated by a previous ContractorCalculator survey. The full results of this research are now published, with the top 100 MPs, ordered by risk of losing their seat, due to the Offpayroll (IR35) reforms that Treasury, HMRC and the Chancellor are attempting to push through Parliament. In total, 85 MPs hold a majority in Parliament that would feasibly be overturned if the expected turnout of IR35opposing selfemployed voters from their constituency were to vote against them, and we list the next 15, making 100 in total, that are potentially under threat if the self employed voter turnout is higher than expected. "This single piece of damaging policy could prove catastrophic for all parties involved, not least the Tories, who make up 43% of the atrisk seats,” comments ContractorCalculator CEO, Dave Chaplin. “There is also potentially a lot to gain for some, but those in precarious positions will have to act swiftly and earnestly to win over contractors’ trust.” How we identified the atrisk MPs The research leveraged the data and compared the MPs majority at the last election with the likely number of selfemployed voters in their area who would turn out and vote against them. -

The National Rail Enquiries (NRE) website appears to have coped well with very high volumes 2. The online real time journey planner on the NRE website did not show correct information for some train operating companies (TOCs) 3. The online journey planners on TOC and third-party websites did not generally reflect the contingency timetables in operation 4. Tickets continued to be available for sale online for many trains that would not run 5. Station displays appear to have reflected formal contingency timetables, except for Southeastern 6. Station displays and online Live Departure Boards did not always keep pace with events 7. The NRE call centres appear to have provided good information, but queuing times of 11 or 12 minutes were common. 1 The National Rail Enquiries appears to have coped well with very high volumes We saw no evidence that the NRE website crashed or was slower than usual, despite a large spike in volume (Chris Scoggins reported that the volume on 2 December was twice the previous record peak on 7 January 2010). 2 The online real time journey planner on the NRE website did not show correct information for some train operating companies NRE had to advise passengers not to use the journey planner for enquiries about East Coast, Southeastern and South West Trains.
