Mitch Minken – Swift Current Nominator: Swift Current Club

Mitch has been involved in the sport of curling for 40 years, like many rural Saskatchewan residents falling in love with the game in middle school. Mitch has curled competitively since juniors attending numerous Southern Men’s and Senior Men’s Playdowns and qualifying for Senior Men’s Provincial Playdowns.

Mitch has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Swift Current Curling Club since 2009. Along with managing the Super League, Mitch has supported the Club by volunteering for the 2009 Provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts and the 2010 & 2016 Ford Women’s Worlds.

Mitch has been part of the CURLSASK team beginning in the 2009-10 season as District Coordinator for Region 1 and taking on the role of Region Coordinator in the 2012-13 season. Mitch also served on the CURLSASK Region Re-Alignment Committee in 2012-13 to re-structure the geographic areas of the CURLSASK competitions. Mitch joined the CURLSASK Board of Directors as a Member at large in 2013- 14 and took on the role as Vice President in 2016-17 and President in 2017-18. Mitch has been the Competition Liaison for the 2013 Juvenile Provincials, 2014 Mixed Doubles Provincials, 2014 Men’s Provincials and the 2015 & 2016 Women’s Provincials.

Mitch is the General Manager, Infrastructure & Operations for the City of Swift Current. Mitch has a Master of Business Administration from the University of Regina and a Project Management Professional designation from the Project Management Institute with training from the University of Saskatchewan and York University Schulich School of Business.

Christy Walker – Kerrobert Nominator: Twin Rivers Curling Club

Christy Walker is currently employed at Unity Credit Union as the Manager of Lending. She lives in the Kerrobert area where she and her partner operate a livestock operation. Christy is an active member of the Twin Rivers Curling Club in North Battleford where she currently serves on the Board of Directors. Previously, Christy was on the Granite Curling Club, Battleford Cooperative Curling Club and Unity Curling Club boards.

Christy has co-chaired the U18/U15 Junior Slam in North Battleford, co- chaired the Junior Men’s and Women’s Provincial in North Battleford, was part of the organizing committee for the 2016 Grand Slam Committee, a part of the 2011 SaskTel Tankard Committee, and has assisted with coordinating and organizing the Junior Curling Program in the Battlefords for many years.

Christy has also officiated at various curling events, has completed her Competitive Coach Certification and has been CURLSASK Competition Liaison at various events the last few years.

Her knowledge and skills, having served on various boards, combined with serving on the CURLSASK Board of Directors for the past 6 years has furthered her knowledge and has gained her valuable experience that she feels makes her an even stronger board representative for the future.

Chad Gareau – Prince Albert Nominator: Prince Albert Golf and Curling Club

Chad joined the CURLSASK board as Finance Officer in April 2016. He has been involved with the sport of curling for over 25 years. Born and raised in Prince Albert, Chad is a proud member of the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Club (PAG&CC).

In addition to volunteering for events held at the PAG&CC, Chad is the treasurer for the Rock and Road cycling Club and a Board Member for the Prince Albert Triathlon: A Multisport Club.

Chad has been the General Manager of the CIBC in Prince Albert since 2000 and his knowledge and experience will continue to be an asset to the CURLSASK organization.

In addition to curling, Chad enjoys swimming, soccer, skiing, yoga, biking, and running.

Michael Dudar - Saskatoon Nominator: Saskatoon CN Curling Club

Michael is seeking his second term on the Board of CURLSASK. His Board activities include being a member of the Participation and Development Committee, the Competition Committee and most recently chair of the Strategic Planning Committee. Michael looks to continue his work in Strategic Planning which will set the direction of CURLSASK for the next four years. As a volunteer with CN Curling Club, Michael has led several cash spiels for the Club, and is a past-President of CNCC. A project manager by profession, Michael is employed by CBRE Limited as Director of Project Management in Saskatchewan with responsibility for managing and delivering commercial and industrial construction projects across the Province, on behalf of project owners. His daily work includes project scheduling, risk review, detailed project planning and management of work done by consultants and contractors. Prior to moving to Saskatoon in 2010 to lead the Saskatoon Police Headquarters project, Michael lived in Nigeria for 4 years where he had in-country responsibility for a Canadian consulting engineering firm.

Michael holds a diploma of Engineering Technology from Red River College in Winnipeg and was a director of Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologists and Technicians (SASTT) from 2011 to 2015.

Helen Fornwald - Estevan Nominator: Estevan Curling Club

I am currently employed with the City of Estevan for the past 27 years in current role as Safety Coordinator/EMO Coordinator for the past 7.5 years. I have been an active member of the Estevan Curling Club for 26 years. As well, I have been a City of Estevan Leisure Services liaison with the Curling Club for 8 years.

More recently, I co-chaired the 2018 Men’s SaskTel Provincial Curling Tankard in Estevan. As well, in 1994, Estevan held this event and I was Facilities chairperson for the event. I am presently working on my Level 1 officiating course.

The sport of curling began a part of my life at the age of 12 and I have curled ever since. I have won the Estevan Ladies League curling from 2009 – 2014. I have competed in CURLSASK events that include Women’s Mixed and most recently Travellers.

I have extensive experience with chairing the Southeast Association for Sport, Culture and Recreation for the past 17 years. I have been involved with Saskatchewan Games Program since 1988. Most recently, 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games I was Chef-De-Mission which is responsible for all the athletes, coaches and managers for the Zone 1Team.

During my years as a City of Estevan employee, I have been involved in various boards, co-chaired Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association provincial conference, been involved in assisting with the organizing of the Western Canada Cup, several fundraising Sportsman Dinners and the development of the Leisure Centre and Affinity Place. Over the years, I have developed strong organizational skills, time management skills, strong verbal and written communication skills and attention to details.

I believe my knowledge and skills from serving on various boards from the local, regional and provincial levels combined with organizing major events as well as the knowledge of the sport of curling could be an asset to this organization.

As per CURLSASK Nomination Policy:

Nominations for all positions available will close 45 days prior to the AGM (ie March 14, 2018). In the event that there are not a sufficient number of nominees for all available positions, nominations from the floor will be accepted. A nomination from the floor must have the consent of the nominee and, if the nominee is not present at the meeting, consent must be presented in writing.

Voting for Directors will be held in sequence: President, Vice-President, Finance Officer, Members at Large One-Year Term (if required), Members at Large Two-Year Term.
