  • Pirates, Justice and Global Order in the Anime 'One Piece '
PIRATES, JUSTICE AND GLOBAL ORDER IN THE ANIME ‘ONE PIECE ‘ "Remove justice, and what are kingdoms but gangs of criminals on a large scale? (St. Augustine City of God, Book 4, Ch. 4). DRAFT, work in progress…do not quote without permission I. INTRODUCTION The manga/anime (Japanese cartoon) titled ONE PIECE telling the story of the pirate Monkey D. Luffy and his crew is one of the most successful Japanese cultural products of all time. The first volume of One Piece was published in 1997 and it has been published weekly ever since. It has sold over 430.000.000 million copies worldwide (70.000.000 outside Japan) and it has set already years ago the world record for "The most copies published for the same comic book series, by a single author."1 Although One Piece is the most successful Japanese manga series there are many others -like Dragon Ball or Full Metal Alchemist 2 - with fans around the World, making Japanese manga not only a successful export product, but many believe also a source of Japanese soft power (Bouissou 2006). This in the case of One Piece is especially true for East Asia, with many young readers in the region being inspired by the manga to turn their interest towards Japan (Hirai et al. 2014). Although such products of popular culture are produced mainly for entertainment purposes, we should not dismiss the reflections they make about the social and the political world, as it is recognized that they do not only depict, but also construct identities, shape security narratives and form our world, explaining why scholars increasingly turned their attention to their study (Weldes and Rowley 2015).

  • Tube Feeding Using the Bolus Method | Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
PATIENT & CAREGIVER EDUCATION Tube Feeding Using the Bolus Method This information will help teach you how to use the bolus method to feed yourself and take your medications through your percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG), gastrostomy tube (GT), or nasogastric tube (NGT). About Tube Feeding Tube feeding is when you get your nutrients through a feeding tube if you aren’t able to get enough through eating and drinking, or if you can’t swallow safely. Nutrients provide energy and help you heal. The bolus method is a type of feeding where a syringe is used to send formula through your feeding tube. The syringe you’ll use is called a catheter syringe. A catheter syringe doesn’t have a needle. It has a hole with a plunger in it. You draw up formula through the hole in the syringe then push the formula into your feeding tube with the plunger. A bolus refers to 1 “meal” of formula. You may have a feeding tube with a legacy connector or an ENFit connector. In this resource, we’ll show images of both types of connectors. For more information about your feeding tube, including how to manage side effects, read Tube Feeding Troubleshooting Guide. Tube Feeding Using the Bolus Method 1/11 Tube Feeding Guidelines Formula: __________ Total cans per day: ____________________ (8 ounces each) Calories per day: __________ You can choose the times of your feedings, as long as you reach your daily nutritional goals. Write in the times you prefer or your doctor, advanced practice provider (APP), or clinical dietitian nutritionist recommends.

  • The Paste Treatment of Inflammatory Skin Diseases, Especially of Eczema
280 Progress of the Medical Sciences. [July The Paste Treatment of Inflammatory Skin Diseases, especially of Eczema. Dr. P. G. Unna, who has been largely instrumental in bringing into use the method of treating diseases of the skin by means of impermeable pastes, has recently given in the Monatshefte fur praktische Dermatologie, Nos. 2 and 3, 1884, a very complete list of the preparations used in his practice. Bolus Pastes (Bole Armeniac).—This is made of bolus alba (or clean kaolin) with vaseline and glycerine, in equal parts, or with olive, almond, or linseed oil, in the proportion of two to one, as B.—Boli alb®, parts 2 ; linseed oil, part 1.— M. The addition of more oil makes a liniment. In order to obtain a good paste for eczema it is necessary to add some liquor plumb, subacet. (or liquor alum, acet.) or oxide of zinc. jR.—Boli alba.', 5 parts; linseed oil, 3 parts; liquor plumb, acet., 2 parts.—M. This proportion is easily handled. It should be remembered that the bolus and oil are always to be mixed first, before the lead or aluminium is added, since the bolus and alum make an insoluble mass. In¬ stead of 5 parts of bolus, we may use 3 parts, and 2 of zinc oxide, as R.—Boli alb®, linseed oil (or glycerine), aa 30 parts; oxide of zinc and liq. plumb, subacet. aa 20 parts.—M. Make a paste. This is an excellent application for eczema. Instead of bolus earth, kaolin may be used, and instead of the bolus alba, the flava or the rubra may be used on the hands and face.

  • Persistently Infected BVD Cattle
Montana BVD-PI Herd Screening Project A function of Montana Beef Quality Assurance Sponsored by Montana State University & Montana Stockgrowers Association In collaboration with Animal Profiling International, Inc. Intervet, Inc. BVD-PI Herd Screening 1) Helping reduce sickness potential in individual cow herds. 2) Adding value to commercial and seedstock cattle. 3) A template for on- ranch biosecurity. Biosecurity Basics • Increasing disease resistance through vaccination. • Screening for disease agents. • Animal identification and recordkeeping. • Prudent livestock movement and handling. Keys to Biosecurity & Health Management Don’t rely solely on vaccination. Attention to proper nutrition. Hold all “non- biological” pairs suspect. Minimize sorting and mixing within and between herds. BVD Begins at the Ranch Transient Infection vs. Persistent Infection PI calves are only “created” during gestation. Once a PI, always a PI -- Not a PI, never a PI. BVD-PI Screening Tactics using Pooled PCR “Performing a reverse transcriptase–PCR assay on pooled fresh tissue samples is a “sensitive and specific method” of screening cattle for persistent infection with BVD virus.” * PCR = polymerase chain reaction * James A. Kennedy, DVM, MS, Colorado State University Diagnostic Laboratory, Rocky Ford Branch; JAVMA, Vol. 229, No. 9, November 2006 Screening Procedure Dry ear notches are taken by ranchers and shipped (chilled) overnight. Samples are “pooled” and assayed for BVDV RNA. Screening results returned to the producer “next business day” upon receipt. PIs are confirmed using ear notch samples obtained from the suspect animals 3-4 weeks after initial sampling. Tissue Collection Procedure Collect small ear notch and place in dry tube (do not place in formalin or other preservative).
