October 2013 North 1 West Wilmslow 13-15 Widnes It’s hard enough at the best of times to win rugby matches, even if your set piece scrum and lineout is delivering regular decent quality possession. The task though becomes near impossible when your scrum is pushed around for nearly the whole duration providing little first phase possession and your lineout is reduced to no better than a heads and tails lottery. By all the measures, Wilmslow should have been simply brushed aside by this Widnes side but against all the evidence and all the odds, they hung in and clawed their way back into it in the final quarter.

It seems a mere matter of minutes since I was invested as President by John Loynton last December. I have been very privileged to have been invited to serve as President and I have taken as full a part as my circumstances would The President allow. In a few short weeks, I will be handing over the Presidential ‘gong’ to Johnny Dugdale. I am personally delighted that he will be taking the job. He is a hard-working and valuable member of the committee. I must pay tribute to the OSA Committee. I have known members of your Committee for many years, but I had not, hitherto, appreciated the exceptional commitment and talent that goes into the running of the Association. There have been some challenges this year and many people have worked very hard to meet those challenges. It is, perhaps, unfair to single out individuals, as all make great contributions. I must, however, mention those with whom I have had the greatest interaction.

Summer term: Week 4 News 18th May 2018 A note from the Headmaster This newsletter contains a report on the excellent Senior Play, performed last week by a cast of sixth form boys and girls. I would like to congratulate our actors on such an exciting and polished performance. You will also see a report below on our recent cricket fixture at Glamorgan County Cricket Club. This provided a superb opportunity for our team to play on their test ground, and I am very grateful to the Glamorgan staff who offered us such excellent hospitality for the day. A number of parents have been hugely supportive in helping us to develop this partnership with Glamorgan, and I am also immensely grateful to them. Please can I also draw your attention to the FOMs Summer Party, as advertised below. This promises to be a very enjoyable occasion, and thank you to the FOMs parents for their work to prepare for the event, and for their work to support our school. This taut crime thriller followed the story of missing teenager Claire Francis whose seemingly loyal group of friends turn against her under police ques- tioning. The race is then on to try and discover the truth of why a young girl would disappear and seemingly no-one, but her father, wants her to come home.

The Silhillian 2019 P E I A R S T E V E R A N A I T N A R E E V P E R S Solihull c1936 THE SILHILLIAN 1 Welcome to the new look Silhillian From the Chairman of the OSA Committee, Barry Allen (Windsor 1968-1975) At school, I always seemed to be answering exam questions on the topic of “revolution or evolution?” The production of this Silhillian magazine in conjunction with the school’s Development and Old Silhillians’ Office might seem like a revolution, but it is really a natural evolution of the Association’s relationship with the school. We are indebted to the school for the increasing energy which is being put into widening contacts within the Old Silhillian community and between Old Silhillians and the school. That can only make us a more inclusive organization – to the benefit of a much wider group – and it is reflected in the varied content of this magazine. Enjoy it, and please provide feedback on what you would like to see in future editions. Ultimately, we all share a common – perhaps short, but often very significant – period in our lives. The Association exists to maintain links between us and to help, where we can, the pupils to face a challenging world. Please get involved if you are able to. Barry Allen (Windsor 1968-1975). Finally, we are looking forward to our centenary in 2021. That will be a special year in the history of the Association.
