Instrumentation Scheme to be adopted for DSC Block diagram of an Emission Spectrometer SJCAR has worked out designs in areas of applied research and has placed these proposals to Government Funding Agencies, for wider reach. Some of these proposals have been fully demonstrated and await adoption, while others have been worked out to detailed design levels, ready for execution. These proposals have recently been put up to various funding agencies like DST, DSIR and DRDO, awaiting response. 1. Process Development for special materials 1. Light weight-High strength composites with fibre re-inforcement (submitted to Naval Armament Board) 2. Bio-fuel for IC Engines with low carbon emission. 3. High performance Bio-Lubricant with low friction wear. 2. Development of Indigenous Instruments affordable to colleges and universities. Universities have the theory in their syllabus but many are unable to procure the associated instruments being beyond their affordability. a. Differential Scanning Calorimeter with LABVIEW interface and extention for thermo-gravimetric methods (APPROVAL in principle has been accorded by DST). The instrument has attributes as follows: Possesses the capability to determine the Specific Heat / Thermal Capacity of a sample as also to determine whether any phase change or exothermic / endothermic reactions occur in the temperature range of interest. The instrument will be offered at a price affordable to almost all Science colleges to supplement lectures with experiments. Application Note :In many processes, it becomes necessary to investigate whether the material of interest undergoes any change of state in the temperature range of operation. The DSC is an elegant technique to investigate this thermo- dynamic property. This could be the case that we need to ensure that a lubricant does not change its characteristics under conditions of heat produced by friction. Another application could be that we need to ensure that a structural material in a reaction chamber does not undergo structural change in the designed temperature range of operation. Provision will be made for linkage to a micro-balance so that thermo-gravimetric studies could also be made, rendering this as a Simultaneous Thermal Analyser. This would be achieved at an extra cost of Rs. 1.0 lakhs. By this, decomposition and fractional distillation events could be recorded. b. Dual Emission-Absorption Spectrophotometer with LAB VIEW Extention. (design submitted to DST). Objectives Of The Project: To realise a novel design and provide at a low cost, the twin advantage of having an instrument that could be made to operate either in the absorption mode or emission mode. While comparing the anatomies of (1) An Emission Spectrometer and (2) An Absorbtion Spectrometer, Certain commonalities are observed and it strikes that significant cost can be saved by having a' Two-in-one Emission-Absorbtion Spectrophotometer'.We can have a common compartment and switch either the emission or the absorption source as the front end box. 3. SJCAR has brought out a book titled “Analytical Instrumentation For Engineers” , serving as a reference book for practicing engineers to understand the application of electronics in relevance to the scientific principles behind the analytical instruments. Several projects of social relevance have been identified in the fields of Management and Engineering and are in the process of being articulated as detailed proposals. 2 CHANDRIKA

Evolving a scheme of 'eco-tourism' whereby places of pilgrimage could enjoy mass patronage, without having a negative impact on environment. 3. Studying and suggesting methods by which impediments to fund flow from willing financers to enterprising industries, could be removed, thereby giving a fillip to the GDP. 4. Studying the dynamics of supply chain management for the highly productive vegetable and fruit farming sector , to the wide spread consumption centres, using the economic traditional methods of storage and preservation techniques. 5. Insights into HR policies for pruning to suit the special needs of women employees. 6. Studies relating to the development of education of the girl student in the classroom environment. 7.
