The beautiful cut flower arrangements helped brighten the end of January days.

Thanks too to Linda Jeffrey for her donation of a CD/cassette/radio player and to Doreen Holden for craft supplies.

We appreciate the many that support Activities here at the RHC through your donations: either privately or in collaboration with others as well as through Sarcan. We have recently been surprised with the many $ funneled through Sarcan. Every nickel counts!!!

We have celebrated winter in January by embracing the Arctic via our destination challenge. We had a number of snowball fights, learned a few facts about the north, we even hada Northern themed smoothie. (It was difficult to acquire whale blubber!?!) With the coming of Feb/Mar we are heading for a warmer climate. It is time to wend our way to the Pacific Ocean and the jewels of the Hawaiian Islands. Aloha!!

Keith Olsen will bring his saxophone on the 4th; the Carigana Ramblers will entertain for the monthly birthday party Feb 12 being hosted by the Annadale Ladies. Phil Wilk is back on the 19th and the Lyon’s Country Band entertains on the 22nd.

The Activity Department is very grateful for the support from the community/volunteers/families/RHC staff: it means a great deal.

Snowmobilers are always welcome!

Is it just me or does it feel like the month of January is 73 days long?? We have had a pile of fun in the past month but I’m always happy to be one month closer to warmer weather, as I’m sure you all are too.

In January we started Minecraft Mondays! A plan I had last year, but needed the iPads to make a reality. THANK YOU, again, to Affinity Credit Union for making it possible to host cool activities like this for the kids!! After that I needed a local expert because Minecraft makes my brain hurt, but I didn’t need to look far for that, Thank you to Fallon Jensen for coming every week to help the kids out with any and all questions!!

As for all the extra fun, we hosted a Noisiest Storytime Ever with the basic percussion kit; a Rage Yoga night, with the fabulous Roxanne Moreau, for the Humane Society; an Art Show for the Senior Art Students and mural unveiling (Thank You to Mrs. Garnier’s Commercial Cooking class for providing delicious appetizers for the crowd); went to Carlyle for a pottery class with Off The Rails Studio (Thank You Misti Bayliss for providing an awesome night of learning and creating!); and then finally our intro to Dungeons and Dragons for Beginners!!! To say it was a whirlwind is an understatement! This was all on top of our regular programs of Coffee and Colouring, BlockHeadz Lego club, Midweek Makerspace, Storytime, & our Book Club.

So let’s move on to February! Our regular programs will continue to run as usual with the change of the Midweek Makerspace on Wednesdays to the Simple Engineering kit. Come try it out and see what you can build!!

As some of you may know we have an incubator full of Silkie chicken eggs living at the Library, we are expecting them to hatch around Feb 10th so stop by to see the little babies while they are here!! These birds belong to the members of the 4-H Poultry Club and will not be here for long so keep an eye on our social media pages to see when the hatching begins.

We are fortunate enough to be hosting musicians Michele Amy, Pierre Tinant and Dale McArthur in the Redvers School gymnasium on Wednesday, Feb 12th from 2:00-3:00 in honour of Sask Aboriginal Storyteller month. Please feel free to join us as this is open to the general public!!

On Feb 13th and 20th we will be utilizing the Cricut Air 2 makerspace kit for a couple of Make Your Own Phone Case or Mug days. Just bring along a coffee mug, water bottle or phone case between 1:00-5:00 pm and we will help you customize it with vinyl decals of your choice.

On Feb 27th, we will be closing early at 4:00 to attend the Impact Child fair at the school (for children born in 2016). Please note that there will not be BlockHeadz Lego club that day!!

On Friday, Feb 28th our second of three Pottery classes with Off the Rails studio will take place. A very big Thank You goes out to Southeast District for sponsoring the three classes via their Grow Your Community grant.

Monday: 1:00-5:30 Tuesday: 9:30-12:30 & 1:00-5:30 Wednesday: 3:30-8:00 Thursday: 9:30-12:30 & 1:00-5:30 Friday: 9:30-12:30 & 1:00-4:00

Well here we are at the end of January already! One month into 2020 and what do we have to show for it?

Speaking for myself, there are no monumental accomplishments as to yet. I’ve babysat grandkids a little and taken in an 8 year old’s hockey game. I’ve managed to navigate a trip to, through, and out of with no major problems (thank God for GPS) wondering the whole time how that city could have changed so much in 47 years when I used to live up there. And then wondering if that math is correct – 47 years!? And then wondering if I am somehow trapped in some kind of accelerated time warp, because 47 years isn’t possible. Or maybe this is one of those quantum physics anomalies.

You know, the usual ‘old people’ ramblings we fall back on when things don’t make sense.

Although I didn’t actually make any New Year’s resolutions I had been proudly recording the miles the dog and I had been walking on my nice new calendar. Every day for a week we headed out for fresh air and exercise. I remember how nice the days were... and then they weren’t. My tally of miles goes from two miles a day to no miles per day precisely when Mother Nature decided to turn her thermostat down. She has recently readjusted the setting but I have only managed one measly mile since then. My momentum has petered out. The dog is disgusted with me. I’m none too happy about it myself.

I have a few things moving forward as we advance into this new month of February. I have hauled in one of my seedling tables and have started a few plants. I have taken a solemn oath not to go crazy too early this spring so there are no annuals there but perennials are safe to start, right? I have lemon trees growing and was just reminded the other day that I had saved grape seed as well. That should keep me busy until the seed order arrives.

Also, my long fantasized about kitchen face lift is in its infancy. I’m not doing anything crazy. In fact, I’m not doing anything at all. I am paying experts to do the work because a) it’s good for the economy, b) home renovations is not where my talents lay, and c) it could be said that I may be lazy.

Two more things: I feel a trip to the biggest home improvement store I can find coming on, and someone needs to delete my Pinterest app before this gets out of control.

We spent some time researching where to go on a winter get away. If you don’t choose the all inclusive option it begins to feel less and less like a holiday more like a potential episode of National Lampoon’s next adventure. Where to go? Where to stay? When to pick? Our planning stalled out.

Since then the USA and Iran delved into an almost war and the corona virus is globe trotting. It feels like 2020 is a good year to renovate the kitchen. We didn’t completely rule out a trip. I think it was left at “If we win a trip, we’ll take it!” So far Lady Luck agrees that we should stay home.

What’s up next? Why, February of course! At least one viewing of the movie Groundhog Day, much more mess in the renovation department, the sunlight lasting longer every day, and maybe the dog will be able to guilt me back into those two mile walks. REDVERS & DISTRICT RECREATION CENTRE Submitted by Recreation Director, Alicia Stewart

It’s the best time of year…. Playoff and Provincial hockey! This is the time of year we pack the rink for every game and see the community spirit that Redvers and surrounding area has.

Over the last few months we have watched our teams grow, seen all the players improve from one week to the next and now it is time to lay it all out on the ice for playoffs!!

Our PeeWee, Bantam and Midget 2 teams have all started their Provincial games. The PeeWees went to Lafleche last week ending the game in a3-3 tie. On Saturday Lafleche was in Redvers, the Peewee team gave the crowd a game to remember, after being down 3-0 going into the 2nd period they gave a huge push at the end of the 2nd it was 6-3 in favour of Redvers. Unfortunately after ending the 3rd period 6-6 the game went into a 10 minute overtime period. Lafleche made a comeback and ended up the winners of the game knocking the PeeWee team out of Provincials.

The Bantam team played Cupar Friday winning game 1 with a score of 4-2; they head to Cupar next Friday the 7th – Good Luck Bantams.

The Midget 2 team played game 1 of their Provincial playoffs vs Carnduff finishing with a7-2 win. They head to Carnduff on Thursday the 6th – Good Luck to the Midgets.
