Santa Claus from Country to Country Lesson topic: Various ways Santa is portrayed in different countries Content Concepts: -Learn about various Santa Claus legends United States, Belgium, Brazil, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, New Zealand, Romania, Russia, Netherlands, Spain, Chile. -Social Studies, history, map skills -Reading (list of library books) -Math problems -Science projects -Craft projects -Writing practice -Gaming skills -Music (list of Christmas CD’s) Proficiency levels: Grades 4 - 6 Information, Materials, Resources: Social Studies, History, and Map skills United States: The modern portrayal of Santa Claus frequently depicts him listening to the Christmas wishes of young children. Santa Claus (also known as Saint Nicholas, Saint Nick, Father Christmas, Kris Kringle, Santy or simply Santa) is a folklore figure in various cultures who distributes gifts to children, normally on Christmas Eve . Each name is a variation of Saint Nicholas , but refers to Santa Claus. In today's North American, European and worldwide celebration of Christmas, people young and old simply refer to the hero of the season as Santa , or Santa Claus. (Wikipedia) Conventionally, Santa Claus is portrayed as a kindly, round-bellied, merry, bespectacled white man in a red coat trimmed with white fur, with a long white beard . On Christmas Eve, he rides in his sleigh pulled by flying reindeer from house to house to give presents to children. To enter the house, Santa Claus comes down the chimney and exits through the fireplace . During the rest of the year he lives together with his wife Mrs. Claus and his elves manufacturing toys . Some modern depictions of Santa (often in advertising and popular entertainment) will show the elves and Santa's workshop as more of a processing and distribution facility, ordering and receiving the toys from various toy manufacturers from across the world.

  • Chestatee Review 2014
Editor’s Note This year marks many great changes for The Chestatee Review. In addition to publishing our annual I learned this technique in an art appreciation class back in 2012. The process, writing contest winners and the works of art students, we’ve added three new sections that though frustrating at times, grew on me. As an aspiring photographer I like to showcase the talent of UNG’s student body. The three new sections this year are Visual Poetry, Faculty Favorites, and Special Topic Winners. To keep up with our growing content, we have made display this different look to people. I used extra pictures for the students who can take these accomplishments and skills with them for the rest of their careers. background and cut them into various shapes to change the “texture.” I have been honored to serve as editor this year and am thankful to so many who have helped me and the progress of the magazine as well. First, I’ll thank the student staff that show up for 8 a.m. This particular piece was a wedding present for my brother Matt and sister-in-law orientations to tell new students about writing and publishing, bounce ideas around about how we can make the magazine better, and, the best part, do all this for free.

  • Frosty the Snowman
Frosty the Snowman Frosty the Snowman gained enormous popularity when it was released as a sequel to the song Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer. It is considered a Christmas song, even though it doesn’t mention Christmas at all. Jack Rollins and Steve Nelson wrote the Christmas song sequel in 1949, after taking almost half a year to decide on a snowman as the central character. It was first recorded in 1950 by Gene Autry and the Cass County Boys. Frosty the Snowman Was a jolly, happy soul, With a corncob pipe and a button nose And two eyes made out of coal. ' T I S T H E S E A S O N F O R M O V I E S ! HOOKED ON HOLIDAY MOVIES oonn TThhee CCoouucchh wwiitthh MMaarryy CCaarrvveerr Ready to dive into made-for-TV holiday movies? I'm here to help! This is a guide to trying out made-for-TV holiday movies without cable. Enjoy! hookedonholidaymovies.com HOLIDAY MOVIES FOR BEGINNERS If you have cable, the Hallmark Channel is airing holiday movies new and old around the clock. But, if you don't have cable, it's okay! You can try out holiday movies with the services you already subscribe to (or on services with a free trial). Here's where to start: Hallmark Movies Now This is Hallmark's streaming app, and you can get a free 7-day trial for free. During your free trial, I recommend these movies: Window Wonderland: Two rival window decorators compete for a promotion at a big city department store. A fave with funny banter. Ice Sculpture Christmas: Childhood friends enter an ice sculpting contest together. There are two ice sculpture movies on this app. Don't be fooled. This one is good; the other is not. The Spirit of Christmas: A woman trying to sell a haunted bed and breakfast falls in love with the ghost. Yep, that's right. Hitched for the Holidays: Two strangers agree to be one another's dates throughout several holiday festivities and events. Will this pretend relationship take a turn toward reality? What do you think? Lifetime's website If you have cable, you can use your cable provider login to watch the latest Lifetime movies on the channel's website.
