From our Executive Director

It is hard to believe that 2020 is here, the start of a new decade. For Blue Cap, this will be another decade of excellence. We are always working toward excellence, and with your help we will continue to achieve it! In the past year, you the donors have given us a good start. We have been able to upgrade and remodel some of the houses, new programs have been started to meet the needs of younger adults and folks who are slowing down, we have also introduced health initiatives to increase the well-being of everyone of all ages.

Blue Cap is in the process of building a new home to meet the needs of folks as they age and make room for younger folks who are ready to move away from family. Ways have been found to help people find meaningful jobs in the community and provide a variety of supports in day services. We have had some excellent training on finding out what people want and looking for ways to fulfill those needs. We have been creative in how to use and pay for support staff to increase the quality of all program supports.

In this next decade, Blue Cap will go through more training to lead us toward being a nationally accredited organization. Plans include looking toward expanding intermittent living supports, employment services, and increasing meaningful day, including micro-enterprises. Blue Cap will be moving toward the future with your help. Your donations will go to the programs and quality supports. Please continue to be a part of Blue Cap and this exciting new decade.

Happy New Decade!

With Appreciation and Gratitude,

Pat Thies Executive Director

Page 2 Blue Cap Review Local Car Club Gives Back to Blue Cap with Two Community Fundraisers This year the Romin’ Chariots Car Club, a Blue Island staple, supported Blue Cap with two community fundraisers and we cannot thank them enough. On Saturday, September 21, the Romin’ Chariots Car Club and many car enthusiasts lined up to fill Blue Cap’s Instructional Center parking lot with pre-1987 cars for the 8th Annual Romin’ the Island Car Party. The club raises funds by charging a $15 entry fee per car participating in the show, a 50/50 raffle, and a silent auction. This year over $3,600 was raised in support of Blue Cap’s Special Olympics team. Make sure to mark your calendars for the 9th Annual Romin’ the Island Car Party, Saturday, September 19th between 3pm-7pm, which is free to spectators!

st 31 Annual Auction Fundraiser Autumn Nights

On Friday, November 8, committee members, sponsors, donors and volunteers dressed up for an elegant even- ing out at Blue Cap’s 31st Annual Auction fundraiser, Autumn Nights. The auction committee planned months in advance to transform DoubleTree Hotel Chicago-Alsip into an Autumn dream. This year’s auction had over 250 guests in attendance, 28 volunteers, 9 live auction items, 1 Special Project, 86 silent auction items, and 89 raffle items. The evening netted over $125,000 in support of Blue Cap and raised funds for new supports and services. Each year, Blue Cap raises funds in support of a new Special Project. This year’s Special Project was to fund Blue Cap’s New Residential Home, being built in 2020. The money raised from the Special Project will go directly to funding this 8-bedroom home.
