THE PETZL ALTITUDE CAMP

Set off for an unforgettable bivouac Embark on a unique experience in altitude. 24 hours in the heart of the Mont-Blanc massif, at the Col du Géant. After taking the Aiguille du Midi cable car and the Panoramic Mont- Blanc, you will be welcomed by the guides and athletes of the Petzl team. You will take your equipment (tent and food) and you will go to the bivouac site.

DESCRIPTION Embark on a unique experience in altitude. 24 hours in the heart of the Mont-Blanc massif, at the Col du Géant. After taking the Aiguille du Midi cable car and the Panoramic Mont- Blanc, you will be welcomed by the guides and athletes of the Petzl team. You will pick up your equipment (tent and food) and go to the bivouac site. In the alpine tradition, the bivouac is ephemeral, set up at dusk and dismantled at dawn. No trace of the bivouac should be left, discretion and respect for the site are required. A mess tent will be set up in the middle of the tents where you will sleep alone or in pairs (according to your choice). The sanitary rules in force at the time of the festival will be scrupulously respected. Meals will be provided by the Lyofood company. Everyone will take care of their own dishes; hot water will be available. From 8pm onwards, you will be able to watch the film screenings. The next morning, after dismantling the bivouac, you will participate in educational workshops, specially designed for you and supervised by Petzl guides. Please note that the number of places is limited, only 20 privileged people will have the chance to go to the Petzl Altitude Camp on Wednesday, June 9, Thursday, June 10 and Friday, June 11.

LOCATION OF THE CAMP The will be located between the Col du Géant and the Petit Flambeau at 3350m. Twenty individual tents and one Samaya base camp tent will be set up close to the Torino refuge. In order to keep the bivouac spirit and in respect of the rules of the Massif du Mont Blanc, the camp will be set up each evening and then dismantled in the early morning.

PROGRAM AND PRICES The Petzl Altitude Camp will take place on Wednesday, the 9th of June, Thursday, the 10th of June and Friday, the 11th of June 2021, departure at 1.30 pm, return at the same time the following day.

EQUIPMENT TO BRING For the night you must bring a self-inflating mattress, a duvet (-5°C minimum), headlamp, down jacket for the evening, tights and thermal underwear. Pharmacy and personal items. This equipment is in addition to those provided for each workshop (see below).

24-HOUR PROGRAM • 1.30 pm: Meeting at the hotel reception, plan B • Meeting with the guide responsible for the camp, presentation of the program, meeting with the other participants. Checking of the material and equipment, distribution of the packages. • 14H00 : Departure for the Aiguille du Midi • 15h00 : Photos from the footbridge of the Aiguille du Midi • 15h30 : Departure for Panoramic Mont-Blanc • 16H00 : Arrival at Helbronner, Torino refuge terrace. Checking of the equipment, distribution of tents and meals. • 16H15 : Transfer on foot to the Petzl Altitude Camp (by a path marked out by us, no need for ). Drop off your gear and prepare the site. • 16H45: Welcome drink, meeting with the athletes and guides. Formation of "workshop" groups. • 17h00 : Briefing of the guides for the next day (distribution of the equipment, presentation of the next morning, information from the guides on the level of their groups etc...) • 17H30 : Athletes' conferences. • Each evening, Petzl climbers come to present their achievements and projects. These conferences are followed by discussions with the participants. • Athletes scheduled: Liv Sansoz, Fabian Buhl, Nina Caprez, Vivian Bruchez, Lise Billon, Mathieu Maynadier. • 18H30: Individual bivouac meal designed by our partner Lyofood. • 7.20 pm: Setting up of the tents and installation of the participants. • 8pm: Live streaming of the films in the mess tent. • 23:30: End of the screenings. • The following day • 05.15 am: Breakfast / folding of the tents • 06H00 : Departure of the workshops • 11.10am: End of the workshops / tidying up of equipment • 11.40am : Lunch at the camp

WORKSHOP 1 : GLACIER SKIING

Leading a group on a glacier, discovery and/or access to autonomy in glacier skiing. Mastery of ropes, equipment, mapping, risk assessment.

DESCRIPTION Who is it for? Experienced ski tourers with a good level of skiing in all types of snow and used to off-piste skiing. The snow is very hard in the morning and will require excellent control. This workshop is not an initiation to ski touring but an improvement for those who want to ski on glaciers. Physically, you need to be able to do 1000m of positive vertical drop in a day. Explanations of the fundamentals of glacier skiing. DESCRIPTION Who is it for? Amateur mountaineers who have already completed a ridge climb as a second in a team and who want to be able to climb in the lead. To know the basic equipment, belays, rings, use of the reverso, . Know the classic knots (eight, capstan...). Know how to put on your crampons, harness, and the use of basic equipment. This is not an initiation to ridge running but an improvement. Ropes on the ridge. Equipment needed. HOW THE ACTIVITY TAKES PLACE Meeting with the guide and briefing the day before. Contact and exchange on the level of each person. Departure at 06H00 from the camp in the direction of Col de Rochefort, 30 minutes on foot, roped up with crampons. Departure on the ridge at the Rochefort pass then ascent of the ridge to reach the summit of the Aiguille Marbrée Nord. Descent by the same route or by the Aiguille Marbrée Sud depending on the time and conditions. Return on foot by the glacier to the roped-off camp.

DESCRIPTION Who is it for? People who are in good physical shape and have good experience of walking in the mountains, on all types of terrain. Previous experience of walking with crampons on a roped glacier is desirable. You must know how to tie a rope knot and put on your crampons alone. Lessons: mastering the evolution on a glacier. What equipment to take. Techniques for roping up on a glacier. Use of crampons and . Reading and analyzing the terrain. Crevasse rescue: hauling in and out of a crevasse.
