Meeting registration

Registration will take place at the entrance of the Lotus Room in a special registration booth on Monday, 24 October 2016, between 8.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m.

Opening

The meeting will start on Monday, 24 October 2016, at 10 a.m., in the Lotus Room, at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall.

Meals

Meals will not be provided. Lunch and refreshment will be available at the cafeterias located on the conference premises.

Visas

All visitors to Sri Lanka for short visits (including the participation in meetings) must obtain a Business Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) from the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Colombo. The application form and all relevant information, including fees, are available at the following website: www.eta.gov.lk/slvisa/visainfo/apply.jsp. The nationals of Singapore, Maldives and the Seychelles who visit Sri Lanka for less than 30 days are exempt from the ETA. Participants travelling to Sri Lanka can also obtain a Business Purpose Visa from one of the Sri Lankan Overseas Missions or the Head Office of the Department of Immigration and Emigration, Colombo. The list of Sri Lankan Overseas Missions is available at the following website: www.mfa.gov.lk/index.php/en/ component/content/13?task=section. If your country of residence does not have a Sri Lankan Overseas Mission, please send the required details early to the host country contact provided in the paragraph below. All participants are asked to request visa assistance well in advance, as it generally takes at least four weeks to process visa applications. Diplomatic or official passport holders will receive the visa gratis. They should follow the normal ETA application procedure for their personal visits. However, it should be noted that the Gratis ETA is granted for diplomatic and official passport holders on the basis of arrangements between the Government of Sri Lanka and the respective foreign governments. Transportation

The host country will arrange transfer of participants from the Bandaranaike International Airport to their hotel and to the airport. Furthermore, participants are advised to use marked taxis, which have yellow tops and red and white plates. In Colombo, taxis are metered, but it is advisable to agree a rate before setting off. Health and medical services

Visitors to Sri Lanka who visited or transited a yellow fever or cholera-infected area should be vaccinated and be in possession of a valid health certificate. Participants are advised that undercooked fish and meat as well as ice cream, in particular sold by street vendors, can be hazardous. Salads can be risky unless purified water has been used to wash the various vegetables. Fruit that has already been peeled should be avoided. Tap water is not safe to drink — participants are advised to drink bottled water. During the event there will be an ambulance service on site at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, which will provide emergency medical services to participants/delegates attending meetings during working hours. Safety

It is advised to avoid walking alone at night and to keep to the main parts of the city. Please avoid carrying large sums of money and try to dress modestly. Currency

The local currency is the Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR). The exchange rate fluctuates. The United Nations official exchange rate as of September 2016 was 1 USD = 146 LKR. Change is often hard to come by apart from at hotels and big shops, it is advisable to carry lower denomination notes (Rs50, Rs100, Rs500). Banks are open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Friday. It is easy to withdraw money at ATMs using international credit cards or debit cards. Most hotels, restaurants and shopping centres accept credit cards.

Electricity and Internet

230-240 volts, 50 cycles A.C. accessible via two/three round pin socket in the conference venue and the recommended hotels. Free Wi-Fi is available in the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall.

Climate

The climate in Colombo in October is hot and wet. October temperatures range from 24°C to 30°C. October receives quite a bit of rainfall but there is also many hours of sunshine. Light clothes and waterproof clothing or an umbrella are recommended.
