With all this training, it doesn t leave much time fo r anything else, but he s till finds time to study about one or two hours a day. Trent enjoys cross country and summer track the best, and he admires his dad the most. Trent runs many N0TC races each year and his dad can be heard above all the other parents cheering Trent on to victory - again and again!

EKIDEN-NEW ORLEANS Aug £7, 1989 Race Director: Chuck George

A unique and very exciting race, the Ekiden-New Orleans run consisted of 3 team members each running a 5K relay leg. The word Ekiden is Japanese for road relay. Centuries ago the Japanese mail system was routed by relay teams and in 1917 they began the Ekiden Relay as an athletic event. In 1988 the first Ekiden in America was held in . The Ekitien distance of £6.2 miles (marathon) had 5 person teams at varying distances. Numerous contries compete on an international level as well as teams from all 50 states. This years (1909/New York City "America’s Ekitien") overall and £nd place teams finished in under £ hours Our Ekitien-New Orleans (15K distance) WINNERS ALU Stan Cowley (fa r rig h t) & teammates was a new venture for the NOTC that had alot of excitment by way of numerous lead changes. Teams were chosen based on predicted time so as to make the teams more even. Although the race was financially a dieaster, the participants enjoyment was so overwhelming that with a few Ekiden was elite changes we hope to have an Ekiden in 1990. Thanks to Monie Mouton for runner Mark putting together the tusuki’s (relay Malander's ribbons) and to Yasu Yamaouchi for drawing the Ekiden characters in last race with Japanese for the entry forms, shirts NOTC.
