Last Week’s Match report.... Club view .... WROXHAM RESERVES 1-1 CAISTER Caister travelled to Wroxham in a confident mood and started very brightly despite losing Reserves: (ang. Comb. div 3 - Manager Danny Parker) Warren Nichols to a knock to his head inside the first 10 minutes. The visitors passed the ball rd very well from side to side patiently waiting for an opportunity. Garrett Ward latched onto an Important game this week as we take on 3 placed Freethorpe. excellent forward pass from Aaron Huggins-Bowers, clear on goal Garrett’s shot was Last Week: Hempnal 0-4 Caister Res. excellently saved by the home keeper who then got up to react well again to Danny Heller’s Next Up: today vs Freethorpe follow up shot as Caister missed an early chance to take the lead. Caister dominated the opening stages and continued to create good chances for their forwards and looking comfortable at the back. Heller played a ball through to Garrett Ward in a carbon copy of the first chance, this time Ward’s goal bound effort was clipped onto the post by the keeper and he got up to collect the ball as it rolled along the goal line. Ward was causing Wroxham’s backline all kinds of problems and again broke free inside the box, this time unselfishly he played a low ball across goal. Jason Thompson arrived to volley the ball home giving Caister a well deserved lead and raising the celebrations of the vocal travelling support. Caister had chances to increase their lead as Heller, Long and Thompson worked chances for Ward but A-Team: (gydfl div 1 - Managers Matt & Dave Fincham) that crucial second goal just didn’t come. On the stroke of half time Howarth conceded a free kick on the half way line and picked up a booking for the offence, from the resulting free kick Howarth completed a forgettable yet important moment in the game by heading the ball under heavy challenge into his own net passed the despairing Hembling. As Caister returned to the dressing rooms it would have been easy to be down hearted given that they should have been clearly ahead but were instead level. In fact the dressing room was spirited, vocal and upbeat. Caister came out in the second half in the same vein as the first but had to ride their luck at times as Wroxham upped their game, saves at full stretch from Hembling and blocks from both Rowley and Turner kept Caister level. On 72 minutes Caister were pegged back when Huggins-Bowers was sent off for dissent leaving the lifeboatmen to fight out the last 20 minutes with 10 men. Instead of crawling back in their shell Caister looked like the better side from this point on and produced a performance to be proud of. You would have been forgiven for thinking the sides were even in number as Caister pushed their hosts all the th way to the finish, to add to the problems in the last 10 minutes Caister were forced to go Last Week: 12 Oct – Wanderers (away) won 6-1. Next Up: Today – Gt.Yarmouth Peelers -Home down to 9 men as Howarth became injured and with the bench all used there was no option but to bravely hold out. In the final moments the Caister bench thought they had stolen the veterans: (nsvfl div 1 north- Manager neil bowman) victory as Jason Thompson beat his man, his shot was parried by the Wroxham keeper falling for Garrett Ward 8 yards out, his effort was heading for the bottom corner but an Last Week: (29th Sept) The Cottage 1-3 Caister Vets outstretched foot from a covering defender saved Wroxham. The unlucky Ward walked away Next Up: 11th Nov – Scole Utd (H) with his head in his hands as he could not believe he hadn’t got the goal his workmanlike performance had deserved. Good Luck to all the Caister FC sides! Caister will take strength from a spirited performance that should have resulted in 3 away points.

BRIEF HISTORY OF CAISTER FOOTBALL CLUB @aaronrobbo4444

Est: 1908 - Nickname: The Lifeboatmen - Motto: Caister Men Never Turn Back - FF Ground: St. George V Playing Field, Allendale Road, Caister On Sea

When the club was formed in 1908 at a meeting in the old school hall the first Nick Name of the football club was the Rabbits as the old pitch was on a rabbit warren on Caister Beach near the site of the Never turn Back

Pub. The Nickname now is the ‘Lifeboatemen’ after Caister’s most famous service and motto ‘Caister Men never Turn Back’. The moto is more commonly seen these days on Twitter and seen as #CMNTB.Caister were one of the founder members of the and District League and for 60 Years were one of the most competitive and successful teams in Norfolk, Competiting in the Great Yarmouth League and Norfolk Primary cup including Winning The Wiltshire Cup on many occasions. In the mid 60’s Caister joined the Anglian Combination as the club expanded along with a Village which was growing into the size of a Town. The first team moved up the leagues to the 2nd Division where they stayed for 20 years and still classed as a Junior Side.Throughout the 90’s Caister had 5 adult sides including a 1st team, reserves, A Team, B Team on Saturdays and a Sunday side. Due to the decline in demand at local football level the amount of teams changed but we have always had at least 3 adult sides. In 2006-07 Caister FC won the Norfolk Junior Cup with a dramatic 1-0 win over Mattishall Reserves at Carrow Road this was the first major trophy in our History. In the 2007-08 season we finished as runners up of the league cup (Cyril Ballan Trophy) at Wroxham FC losing out 0-1 to Corton FC. This was the start of the recent history and success as in 2008-2009 Caister first team earned promotion to Senior Football and the Anglian Combination Division 1 for the first time in the clubs 100 year history under the Management of Paul Brooking. Caister finished 4th but gained promotion due to senior sides above them moving into the Eastern Counties Reserve League. Caister Reserves have recently gained a historic hatrick of promotions. From 2004 Caister rose from division 6 to division 3 when the Anglian Combination was made into 1 league rather than having a Reserve section. Today our Anglian Combination sides reside in the Premier & 3rd Divisions 1 after a historic double promotion in 2012-13. Our other adult sides the ‘A’ team and Sunday play in the GYDFL and provide a wide spectrum of opportunities to local footballers whilst our vets are in the Norfolk & Vets League Div 1 North. Throughout our history we have spent periods combined with the Youth section during which the club achieved FA Community status, during this time we were known as Caister United. To aid logistics it was thought the clubs would run better separated again recently and the Youth section is now known as Caister Roma.Caister currently have a driven 12 man committee who work on sponsorship opportunities, fundraising, event co-ordination along with the day to day running of the important finances. Currently with 5 adult sides the clubs position on and off the pitch is stronger than ever in its 106 year history.A full collage of Caister Football Club Photos, old news stories and memories is on display in the ‘tunnel’ at Allendale Road. Please feel free to have a read and some of the comical stories I’d advise reading ‘Supporter is Knocked Out’ – great read.

Is Adult Grass Roots a dying game???

Norfolk FA, are seeking to gather primary research as to why the traditional 11-a-side format in the adult game is in decline. We already know that teams are folding at an alarming rate - 5% of teams affiliated to play in the 2013-14 season have already gone. What we don’t know is why... However, up until this Great Yarmouth, NR30 2EJ point we have managed to maintain the number of affiliated teams competing here in Norfolk. This has in part been assisted by a range of +44 (0) 1493 850 800 initiatives introduced by the County FA to suppress the rate of decline, but it is now apparent that we need the views of those involved in the game if we are to successfully address the problem in the long-term. 100% of the teams that have folded have quoted a lack of players as the Choppers primary reason. We need to better understand the reasons why players choose to continue to play or opt out, and how our work can be shaped to Catering Services address these issues.
