My First UAP General Membership Meeting By: Levi Monares, uap

Excited, happy and had so much fun! Those were my feelings at my first General Membership Meeting at the UAP Diliman Chapter.

As a new architect, I have chosen to be a member of the Diliman Chapter. I have searched for a chapter and heard that there are a lot of great and kind architects there. The moment I mentioned to my friend that I would be signing up with the Diliman chapter, he got so happy and immediately invited me to the General Membership Meeting that was on February 28, 2019. At first, I did not think that I would be able to attend because I had not yet been inducted but my friend said that it was OK. That was when I decided to attend.

Upon arrival at the venue, I felt nervous about getting to know the members present because of way they dressed, spoke and shared thoughts on a different level that I was not used to. This only revealed to me that I could learn much from these people and that this chapter would help me become, throughout my career, a great architect like these people.

As the meeting went along, the architects present welcomed me as one of their new members. All of them were very friendly and accommodating. I thought that this meeting would be the serious kind. I was surprised because it was so much fun and stress-free! I was also amazed that this chapter had so many talented guys when it comes to singing. Some of them could be really funny, too.

Aside from fun and enjoyment, I also learned about some building materials and products and got to know possible suppliers of these. They presented the capacities and capabilities of their specific products that we, as architects, can use in our future projects.

Of course, we had casual drinks and great food while getting to know the members who attended. It was a very fun night! From 8pm to 11pm, we enjoyed singing, chatting and laughing together. There was a mini raffle, too, where we could possibly receive an item related and useful to our profession. It was a blessing that I won a raffle for the very first time. I got a small steel metric scale that could be handy at work. It’s really cool!

All these exceeded my expectations about how my first GMM was going to be. I am very thankful to UAP Diliman chapter for giving me a warm welcome and a wonderful experience on my first General Membership Meeting, I hope to grow here and be friends with all members of the UAP Diliman Chapter.

The monthly newsletter of the chapter, Liwanagan sa Diliman, was also released to its members during the GMM.

Representatives of Formica and Jebsen International Trading Corp. also attended the GMM, giving out brochures for its Formica laminate products and Bescube Toilet Partitions. They also contributed raffle prizes for the chapter members.
