If the data contain weight variables, these will be found at the end of the variables list. In some cases frequency distributions have been substituted by descriptive statistics. Categorised responses to open-ended questions are not always included in the codebook. Distributions may contain missing data. The note "System missing (SYSMIS)" refers to missing observations (e.g. a re- spondent has not answered all questions) whereas "Missing (User missing)" refers to data the user has defined as missing. For example, the user may decide to code answer alternatives ’don’t want to say’ or ’can’t say’ as missing data. The codebook may contain attached files, the most common one being the questionnaire. Abstract The survey focused on the 2000 presidential elections in Finland. The respondents were asked whether they had voted in the first round of the presidential elections in the year 2000 and for which candidate they had voted. They were also asked when they had made their voting decision and how the media, advertising, close friends, candidate selectors on the Internet, or the candi- date’s campaign websites affected their voting decision. The respondents were asked whether they had voted in the first round of the 2000 presidential elections, and for which candidate they had voted. In addition, the respondents were presented with a list of various things and asked to say which of them affected their choice of candidate in the first round of the elections. Those who had not voted in the first round were asked the reason for abstaining. All respondents were asked about their opinion of the election campaign and advertising and whether they were going to vote in the second round of the elections, and for whom. The respondents were pre- sented with statements about voting and the personality of the president, and they were asked to express their opinion about them. Finally, the respondents were asked which party they would vote for in parliamentary elections if the elections were held at that time, which party they had voted for in the previous parliamentary elections, and for which candidate they had voted in the previous presidential elections. Background variables included the respondent’s gender, mother tongue, age, marital status, composition and income of the household, education, occupation, information on work, work- ing hours, trade union membership, ownership of apartment, voting in elections, position on a left-right scale, social class, and dwelling place. The background variables have been updated in August 1999. The data also include a case id variable hl, which can be used to append this data to FSD1041. 2 1.3. This action culminated several years of a fundamental reorientation of Finnish security policy as Finland moved from the neutrality imposed on it by the Soviet Union to a policy with a priority on European integration through the European Union.     Daily Press Briefing - 2 - 8 August 1997 Turning to the Secretary-General's upcoming visit to Sweden and Finland, Mr. Eckhard said the Secretary-General would leave for Stockholm tomorrow, Saturday, 9 August. On Sunday, 10 August, he would meet with the Swedish Prime Minister, Goran Persson. On Monday, 11 August, he would meet with former Prime Minister of Sweden and former High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Carl Bildt, as well as with Foreign Minister Lena Hjelm-Wallen and the Minister for International Development and Cooperation, Migration and Asylum Policy, Pierre Schori. The Secretary-General would hold a press conference before leaving for the city of Uppsala, where he would, among other things, lay a wreath at the tomb of former United Nations Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold. He would . also attend a seminar on "New Challenges for the United Nations" at the University of Uppsala, chaired by the Dag Hammarskjold Professor of Peace and Conflict Research, Peter Wallensteen. The Secretary-General would begin on Tuesday with a breakfast meeting with the Speaker of Parliament, Birgitta Dahl, the Spokesman said. He would then visit the Swedish Armed Forces International Command with Sweden's Minister of Defence, Bjorn von Sydow, and have lunch with King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia before leaving for Helsinki, Finland. In Finland, the Secretary-General would meet, on Wednesday, 13 August, with President Martti Ahtisaari, Foreign Minister Tarja Halonen, the Minister of Defence Anneli Taina, and the Chief of the Finish Defence Forces, General Gustav Hagglund, as well as with the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights, Elisabeth Rehn.

Presently this is done by portraying naked young women from behind in open fields on huge billboards advertising a sofa, which is hardly noticeable in the picture.This is just one example of a trend, which can be described as mainstreaming of pornography – or the so-called porn chic tre This concept describes the current cultural process in which pornography slips into our everyday lives as an evermore universally accepted, often ide- alised, cultural element. Two different trends seem to work together here: First, a clean-up, which finds expression in the increased interest by the mass media in pornography, is translated into television documentaries and articles on pornography in newspapers and magazines. Secondly, there is a tendency in advertising, the fa ion industry and the music industry to use signs and symbols, not in themselves pornographic, but which refer to a pornographic universe. This development is closely related to the drastic change of the cultural status of pornography over the last ten years as a result of developments with information and communication technology. The supply of pornography has increased; it has become more easily accessible to the individual consumer and consumption has become potentially anonymous by means of mobile phones and the Internet.

It nowadays publishes literature in the fields of ethnology and folkloristics, linguistics, literary research and cultural history. The first volume of the Studia Fennica series appeared in 1933. Since 1992, the series has been divided into three thematic subseries: Ethnologica, Folkloristica and Linguistica. Two additional subseries were formed in 2002, Historica and Litteraria. The subseries Anthropologica was formed in 2007. In addition to its publishing activities, the Finnish Literature Society maintains research activities and infrastructures, an archive containing folklore and literary collections, a research library and promotes Finnish literature abroad.
