GRAND BAHAMA ISLAND Grand Bahama Island is the fourth largest of the 700 islands. The island has become an island of cosmopolitan glitz and glamour, estled within miles of beaches and end- less seas. Grand Bahama Island features a number of boating facilities throughout the island. For fun, cruise up to the north shore and explore the cays, hidden coves and coral reef dive sites, which are only cessible by boat. Grand Bahama Island is truly an ecological wonder waiting to be discovered. There are many attractions that make it hard to want to end every day working on your tan. Whether to explore the quaint fishing villages, take a nature walk or explore an underwater cave sys- tem. Here are so many sites to see, you may need to stay an extra day or week depending on your schedule. If you are looking for a more secluded each, Fortune each is the place to be where you will find beautiful seashells. We know you came for the sun, sand and sea, but we invite you to enjoy at least part of your time experiencing our many local attractions and ecotours as well as numerous commer- cial offerings linked to outdoor adventures, town and country tours, churches, muse- ums and art galleries. (a bit of , Mummer’s Parade and ancient African tribal ritual), music and dancing, game fishing, native drinks and dishes, yachtsmen cruising, heritage arts and crafts, can all be found in the islands and are symbolic of the Bahamian culture. The International Bazaar is 2 one of the oldest shopping areas in Freeport, and it truly lives up to its name. Upon entering the Bazaar you will notice that is has been divided into different parts of the world such as the Mideast section, French section, Oriental section, Scandinavian and the South American section. Is fast becoming a favorite year round home port thanks to its remarkable services, shopping, waterfront restaurants, bars, entertainment, and New Years extravaganzas, beach, charter fishing and water sports all in one place. Port Lucaya is located in Bell Channel, which is deep and well marked. You belong here, where incredible underwater and topside adven- tures can be yours to enjoy and remember for a lifetime ! The Underwater Explorer Society offers unique, high quality diving, dive training and diving adventures, enabling everyone to explore the underwater world in a relaxed and comfortable setting. Unexso has pioneered many of the dive adventures enjoyed by divers of all skill levels all over the world including shark-feeding dives and dolphin encounters. During this time Unexso maintained a leadership role in exploration.... leading dives to the Artic, Lake Baikal in Russia and an underwater navigation of the Caribbean leg of Christopher Columbus course to the new world Brilliant teal waters, flour-soft beaches, and lavish tropical resorts are how the uninitiated imagine the Islands of the Bahamas. Nobody thinks of pine forests, huge caves brimming with stalagmites, and pigeon plum trees. Surely, such a landscape belongs to some other place, Colorado maybe. Pine trees, after all, just don’t sound tropical. At the Lucayan National 25 miles east of Freeport you’ll see thousands of them, along with man- groves, ferns, and dozens of rare flower species, including orchids. You’ll probably come back with a whole new idea of what the islands are. The 40 acre park, estab- lished in 1982, provides an unparalleled glimpse into the Complexities of the Grand Bahamian evironment, where the beaches represent only one of six distinct ecosys- tems—all of which are present in the park. The park is also home to one of the world’s longer underwater cave system. Kayak through the costal mangroves to this small-inhabited island off the shore.

TRANSPORTATION British rules apply, so please drive on the left and watch those roundabouts! Persons entering a roundabout (traffic circle) must give way to traffic coming from the right. Visitors may use their home license for up to three months and may also apply for an International driver’s license. Pedestrians should remember to look right before crossing the streets.

CLIMATE The trade winds that blow almost continually throughout the islands of the Bahamas, give the islands a warm, agreeable climate, which varies little year-round. The most refreshing time is from September through May when the temperature averages 70- 75 degrees Fahrenheit. The rest of the year is a bit warmer with temperatures between 80-85 degrees. Rainfall is scarce from November through April each year; showers can occur during the Months of May through October.

CLOTHING Casual summer wear can be worn during the day any time of year, but be sure to bring a jacket or sweater for cooler evenings from thru February. Most hotels, restaurants nd casinos require jackets for men in the evening, especially in Grand Bahama Island. Though walking the streets in swim trunks in mid January might sound irresistible, beach clothing is inappropriate on the streets, restaurants and casinos.

CURRENCY The legal tender is the Bahamian dollar (B$), which is equivalent in value to the U.S. dollar. Both U.S. and Bahamian dollars are accepted interchangeably throughout the islands.
