Friday, April 13 - Tel Aviv / Shabbat AM Begin the day with a delicious buffet breakfast at the hotel before visiting Ben-Gurion House, which served as the residence of Israel’s first Prime Minister David Ben Gurion until he settled in the Negev with his wife. A visit here allows for unique, tangible insight into the constitutive events in the history of the State of Israel, as it was in this very house that the final version of the Declaration of Independence was written. Later, visit Old Jaffa, one of the world’s oldest seaports now home to a multiethnic community of Muslims, Christians, and Jews. See the ancient ruins, explore the restored artists’ quarter, and stroll through the winding alleyways while learning about the rich history of the area. Afterwards, explore Jaffa’s flea market, boutique shops, and cafés. PM Explore Nachlat Binyamin Arts & Crafts Fair; a festival of arts, crafts, pottery, and street performances. Pass through the Carmel Market and capture all the liveliness of this vibrant, open-air market. Grab lunch on your own and enjoy free time to shop. Saturday, April 14 – Shabbat Masada AM Today will be at leisure in honor of Shabbat, providing the opportunity to relax and explore Tel Aviv at your own pace. Shabbat services will be offered at the hotel for those who wish to attend. Consider visiting the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, one of Israel’s leading cultural institutions, strolling down the iconic Rothschild Boulevard, or joining the following optional day tour: **Masada & Dead Sea Day Tour: Depart on the bus to begin your drive via the Judean Hills along the shores of the Dead Sea, the lowest place on Earth. Continue to Masada, the mountain fortress built by King Herod, where the Zealots made their last stand against the Romans, and learn about the history of the Jewish fighters before taking a cable car ride to the top of the Herodian Palace Complex. Sunday, April 15 – Coastal Route / Zichron Ya’akov Caesarea AM Following breakfast and hotel checkout, start the day with a once-in-a-lifetime “Solidarity March” down Rothschild Blvd to celebrate 70 years of Israel’s independence with distinguished KKL partners, influential leaders, JNF tour participants, and other special guests. PM Proceed north along the scenic coastal route and enjoy lunch in Caesarea, once the Roman capital of the region, while overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Afterwards, tour the ancient city of and see the excavations from the time of the Crusades, the historic aqueduct, and the site of the old amphitheater that has been restored and converted to a concert venue. Continue to the charming village of Zichron Ya’akov, one of Israel’s first modern settlements. Take a tour of the Aaronson House, which was used during the First World War as the center for underground activity by NILI, the first Hebrew secret organization. Later, take part in an optional walking tour through Zichron Ya’akov’s cobblestone streets or enjoy free time to explore the area on own. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant in Zichron Ya’akov. Monday, April 16 – North / Galilee AM Following breakfast, visit the Atlit Detention Camp, where thousands of Jewish immigrants were once imprisoned upon their arrival into Israel during the British Mandate. See the restored Galina, a replica of a ship that carried 122,000 “illegal” immigrants in defiance of the British blockade to Israel. Continue traveling north and tour the Baha’i Gardens in Haifa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to see the beauty that is described as the “eighth wonder of the world.” PM Enjoy lunch at a boutique winery in the Galilee and sample locally produced wine from nearby vineyards. Head to Akko, the cultural melting pot of the north and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and explore the ancient gates, towers, and secret passageways of this underground Crusader City. Take an exciting tour of the famous Akko Prison, which was built during the Ottoman period and later used by the British Mandate to imprison underground Jewish fighters. Visit the Western Galilee Visitor Center, a multimedia facility that showcases the vast array of attractions in and around the Western Galilee. The center serves as one of many JNF initiatives that aim to attract and retain 300,000 new residents to the thriving region. Meet with the CEO of Western Galilee Now, Michal Shiloah, and learn about this consortium of artisanal businesses, entrepreneurs, and tourism operators that works with Jewish National Fund to enhance economic, social, and tourism opportunities. Tuesday, April 17 – Jerusalem AM Enjoy breakfast and check out of the hotel before heading to Yad LaShiryon at Latrun, Israel’s official memorial site for fallen soldiers from the armored corps and open-air museum featuring more than 200 tanks and military vehicles dating back to WWI. Explore the museum and learn of the location itself, which was a major battle ground during the War of Independence and then liberated from Jordanian rule during the Six-Day War in 1967. PM Upon arrival into Jerusalem, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before enjoying free time exploring and shopping in the city’s urban neighborhoods. Afterwards, explore the newly renovated Israel Museum, one of the leading art and archeology museums in the world. The day will begin at the 9/11 Living Memorial, built in memory of the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Designed by award-winning Israeli artist Eliezer Weishoff, this unique site is the only place outside of the United States that recognizes the names of the people who were killed on 9/11. Participate in a powerful ceremony with all tour participants and pay tribute to those who lost their lives as victims of a terrorist attack or brave soldiers who fell in battle protecting their country. At 11:00 am, hear the sirens sound as we pause with all the people of Israel for a moment of silence. Planning memorials seemed a viable way of containing trauma. It “allowed people to begin . to feel as if the horrid event itself was over—containable, already a memory,” as Marita Sturken writes.3 The sites of violent terrorist impact in Manhattan, Washington, and Shanksville were immediately perceived as the definitive sites of mourning, and public discourse called for their later translation into locations for ritualized practices of commemoration around constructed memorials.   • About the War of Independence
    About the War of Independence Israel's War of Independence is the first war between the State of Israel and the neighboring Arab countries. It started on the eve of the establishment of the state (May 14, 1948) and continued until January 1949. The war broke out following the rejection of the United Nation's Partition Plan, Resolution 181 of the General Assembly (November 29, 1947), by the Arab states and the Arab Higher Committee. The representatives of the Arab states threatened to use force in order to prevent the implementation of the resolution. Stage 1: November 29, 1947 - March 31, 1948 Arab violence erupted the day after the ratification of Resolution 181. Shots were fired on a Jewish bus close to Lod airport, and a general strike declared by the Arab Higher Committee resulted in the setting fire and the plundering of the Jewish commercial district near the Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem. There were still 100,000 British troops stationed in Palestine, which were much stronger than both Arab and Israeli forces. Nevertheless, the British policy was not to intervene in the warfare between the two sides, except in order to safeguard the security of British forces and facilities. During this period, Arab military activities consisted of sniping and the hurling of bombs at Jewish transportation along main traffic arteries to isolated Jewish neighborhoods in ethnically mixed cites and at distant settlements.
