Jain (Deemed-to-be University) has carved a niche for itself as a premier Institution in the country in the field of sports. The efforts of the University, supported by an enabling sports policy, has translated into positive outcomes for the Society in general and for India/State of Karnataka in particular. Aditi Ashok, represented India in Golf in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil and has also won the Ladies European Tour title. Two students of Jain University represented India in 2012 London Olympics namely Gagan Ullamath (Swimming), and Sharath Gayakwad (Paralympic swimmer and an Arjuna Awardee). Niranjan Mukund, a para swimmer, won Gold and Silver at the World Series, 2019 in Brazil. Ashwini Bhat, Badminton player was ranked 33 in world tour ranking for women’s doubles, and ranked among the top 100 in the world and has represented India in the All England Badminton Championship. Besides, the University has produced a number of reputed cricket players who have played for India/Karnataka State and in the IPL like KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, H S Sharath, Shreyas Gopal, Prasidh Krishna, Suchit Jagadeesh, Karun Nair, Samarth, KP Appanna, Abrar Kazi, Akshay Kodoth in Ranji Trophy, One-day Internationals, Test Cricket and T20. Archana Kamath is a National Champion in Table Tennis. Srihari Nataraj holds national records in Swimming and won two gold medals in Uzbekistan open championships and is a strong contender for Tokyo Olympics. Shika Gautham, badminton player, is a National Champion and No. 1 women’s doubles player and represented India in the All-England Badminton Championship. The University has always excelled in Team events. JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), the Southern Champs, won the All-India Toyota University Cricket Championship 2013 after beating Northen Stars – Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi. 4 | P a g e Excellence in Sports The University has developed state of the art sports infrastructure, which is used not only by students of the University, but also for conducting National level events attracting talent from across the country. The Government of India has bestowed the honour on the University of hosting the 2nd edition of “Khelo India” in Bangalore in 2022. Shri. Kiren Rijju, the Sports Minister of India, announced this on 23rd February 2021. All India events conducted by the the University so far include the Inter-University Aquatic Championships in 2014 and 2019 hosting 1200 and 2500 participants respectively from 120+ Universities and 4 editions of “My Country Run” with 40,000 + participants, duly listed in India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records for records as the “Largest 5 KM Run to Encourage sports and Health”. The University has taken the following proactive steps to promote excellence in sports: ➢ Scholarship for deserving sports students based on their academic year performance ➢ Coaching and mentoring support ➢ Special attendance, gracing and continuous evaluation norms as per a uniquely designed Sports Policy. ➢ Counselling by experts, based on “Positive Psychology” ➢ Special coaching and a separate exam time table for sports students to perform equally well in academics ➢ Cash Awards for Sports Achievers at the University/National/International level ➢ Free/Concessional Hostel facility. ➢ Provision of Nutrition and Dietary supplements. ➢ Playing Kit to all Sports Students Sports Infrastructure at JAIN The sports infrastructure differentiates the University from among its peers. They cater to the requirements of various indoor and outdoor games. Indoor games that can be hosted include badminton, basketball, Table Tennis, Squash, Billiards and Snooker, Bowling, Taekwondo, Karate, Aerobics with facilities like Sauna and Jacuzzi. 5 | P a g e Excellence in Sports The ultra-modern aquatic complex is equipped with 25 metres - 08 lane short course swimming pool, 50 meters - 10 lanes competition pool with water-polo facilities and a separate diving pool with standard fixed and spring diving boards. It also has a covered gallery to seat 1000 spectators on the either side of the pool. The 200000 square feet lush green ‘Oval’, a well-designed cricket ground, with 5 strips of turf wicket in the centre. An additional cricket ground features International standard 65m natural turf with 6 Outdoor and 6 Indoor practice nets. Both the grounds are suitable for hosting International and National level Cricket matches The Tennis infrastructure includes 04 plexi-cushioned and two clay tennis courts of a high standard. Additional exclusive facilities include 1 Centre Court with a seating/viewing capacity for about 200 people, 6 Synthetic Courts, 2 Practice Clay Courts, 7 ITF Classified Acrylic Cushioned Tennis Courts with floodlights. BWF standard 12 wooden indoor synthetic Badminton courts An international class Golf driving range has also been developed. A double tier spacious driving range fitted with ultramodern Golf training and analysis equipment has been designed. The PDR with 20 hitting bays is supplemented with a well laid out practice range having a huge putting green, chipping area and a bunker shot practice. In addition to these facilities, a six-hole Golf course of international specifications has also been developed to make Golf training programmes effective and complete. The Equestrian Centre caters to horse- riding as a sport. With ten horses and two ponies in its table, horse riding is one of the most popular sports disciplines on campus. In case of horses, a rider has to inculcate important aspects of animal health care such as grooming and caring. Students get the opportunity to watch the trainers and doctors take care of the animals and imbibe the finer aspects of animal rearing. The full- fledged Gymnasium is equipped with the latest equipments for physical conditioning. This Air- Conditioned Multi-Purpose Gymnasium has facilities such as Chest Conditioner and Press Station [80 kgs], Dipping, Leg Press [100 kgs], Seated Rowing [75 kgs], Latissimus Station [75 kgs], Peck Deck [75 kgs.] etc. 6 | P a g e Excellence in Sports Out of five Volleyball courts and four Basketball courts, two Basketball courts are provided with latest lighting facilities to enable night time practice. An additional 2 FIBA standard Basketball courts and a half-court with floodlight facility have been commissioned. A FIFA Quality Pro Certified Artificial Turf Football field measuring 108m x 68m and an additional lush green turf football field that is fitted with pop-up sprinklers meet the requirements to conduct of National level tournaments A natural turf Hockey ground of international standard fitted with Pop-up sprinklers, a 400 meters natural track, athletic arena and a covered stand with a capacity for more than 5000 seating spectators are additional sports facilities at JAIN. 7 | P a g e Excellence in Sports Prelude SBMJC had created a legacy in sports of sending students to participate in Olympics, Asian Games, University Championships, Indian Cricket Test & One Day International and other sports.
