2020 Fixture Book

Welcome to your Handbook 2020

Our 2020 guide includes everything you need to know about the season ahead.

2019 success across the board Last year was one of the most successful years on record for our senior sides. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd XIs all won their individual leagues and there was cup success too. The 1s took the Echo KO Trophy for the tenth time while the 2s and 3s won their respective T20 competitions.

Of course it’s not all about winning trophies and we were delighted with the diversity of the played. Our junior and woman sections continued to thrive and the over 40s also enjoyed a fulfilling season.

The 2020 challenge We continually strive to enhance our facilities and attract additional quality cricket and once again in 2020, we’re delighted to welcome Thunder, Lancashire 2nd XI and Cheshire CCC who play an ECB showcase one-day match against Warwickshire’s 1st XI.

As ever we’ll also host a number of age group and other fixtures, ensuring a full summer of cricket and a busy season.

With a considerable amount of money spent in recent years, the cost of running our Club remains a huge challenge and our 2020 Management Committee under Chris Fleet’s guidance is constantly looking at ways of driving revenue to replenish and restore our balance sheet.

As part of this, the Club’s junior section will be run as a separate entity this year and a diverse range of events are planned to help raise funds and entertain members. Your dedication to assist us in any way you can has never been more important.

Membership and communication There are now more ways than ever to pay membership fees and we’ll continue to communicate with members through our leading website, via email and through social media. Please help us by ensuring we have your email address and by keeping your personal details up to date (you can do this via our website).

We’re also planning a live streaming service for our home games whereby matches can be watched on the clubhouse screens and online.

New bar manager Adam Roberts – of 4th XI and ‘The Bridge’ fame – takes over our bar management in 2020 and has a number of exciting initiatives planned. There’s a new pizza oven and a full range of food and drink available for our upstairs and terrace bars.

Sponsorship This remains a vital source of income and we’re always looking for new ways of support from our members and the local community. Look out for the ‘memorial and achievement wall’ this summer, as well as player and other sponsorship opportunities.

Once again we’re also indebted to a number of local companies for their support including local law firm Cullimore Dutton solicitors.

All things 2020 Rick Moore reflects on 2019 and plans for an exciting 2020

Looking forward to the 2020, it would be remiss of me not to start by congratulating all on a fantastic 2019. The success across the board last was fantastic and really added to the atmosphere, proving CBH remains the club everybody wants to catch.

I’m hugely looking forward to the year ahead. The first team will be looking to defend our County League and Liverpool Echo success and be trying to push that step further in the Cheshire Cup and Cheshire T20.

With the nucleus of the squad similar to last season, I see a great mix of youth and senior players to help us go that step further. Last season saw newcomer George McCormick shine in his first season. George worked a lot with our High Performance Coach, Will Owen and reaped the rewards for all his efforts. Charlie Fleet improved no end and became one of the ‘go to’ bowlers in the side. We also saw Noah Vickery show why he’s a player with huge potential, playing a top innings in a successful run chase against Alderley Edge. This shows that the future is bright with a number of other young lads ready to knock on the first team door and create healthy competition for places.

Alex Money will be looking to build on a strong season last year which culminated in him getting a very well-earned county debut and saw him receive the CBH club player of the year. Tommy Wyatt, after a winter of training with the MCC Universities scheme in Leeds will be hungry for more opportunities and we’ll looking forward to getting Harry Killoran back (a touch later than expected) fresh from some post Australian cricket season travels. I’m sure Jack Williams will also have another strong year as one of the league’s most consistent performers. Warren Goodwin and Lee Dixon (with growing families) will join me as the old men of the side, but still with plenty to aim for.

New chairman Chris Fleet has amassed one of the biggest management committees we’ve ever had which will aim to keep pushing us forward and keep us as the club that others aspire towards.

With Adam Roberts set to take over the bar, I’m sure everyone would like to join me in wishing him the very best. I know he’ll do a great job and we look forward to having some successful Saturday nights at the Club again this summer.

We have one of the best groundsmen in the country and I’d like to thank Keggy for all his hard work in making our ground such an amazing place to play cricket. A huge thank you too to Leggers for all his work and the massive support he gives. Don and Hoobs volunteer a lot of time and effort to help the Club as a whole and we’re immensely grateful for all you do, thank you!

I’d like to end by wishing all CBH captains the best for the coming season. Dan, Tommy, Ian and Nicole will I’m sure put in a huge amount of effort and hopefully between us all we can make 2020 another very successful season.

Associate membership

May be available on an exceptional basis to part-time occasional players not playing all games due to selection or availability. The cut-off point for eligibility is playing half the games in a season – ie playing (or expecting to play) in more than half the games. In this case you should pay full fees. Please discuss with your captain.

If you have difficulty paying your membership fee

Please speak to a club official to agree a suitable solution. The purpose of membership fees is to support the Club financially, not to exclude potential members who want to play cricket.

How to pay your membership fee

Note: For 2020, different processes are in place for senior and junior payments.

We prefer electronic payment. It’s secure, can be done simply and efficiently and ensures minimum administration for us. It also helps us keep our records up to date.

By keeping our database clean and accurate, we can communicate more easily with members, and captains can manage team selection online.

All fees must be paid by Friday 1 May 2020.

Players not paying in full by this date will be unavailable for selection until they’ve paid. There’s no deadline for social members but early payment is appreciated.

Thank you in advance to all players and social members for paying on time – membership fees are one of the key financial contributors in keeping the club running.

Senior members

You can pay in four ways: i) By card machine (available from all CBHCC captains)

Arrange this with your captain. This is a standard ‘card payment’ system as you may use at say a restaurant/pub etc. ii) Via our website: chesterboughtonhall.co.uk

Go to the home page and click on the green button in the top right hand corner ‘Join this club’ and complete your details • Once registered/logged in, click on the ‘Payments’ button on the bar at the top • Now click on the appropriate membership category and follow the purchase procedures, completing the membership form, iii) BACS online transfer from your account

CBHCC account details:

Junior members

Please pay membership fees online via LoveAdmin.

If you (and your children) are already registered on the club website (chesterboughtonhall.co.uk), this will be unaffected and you’ll continue to receive email updates from CBHCC. If new to the Club, we’ll ensure you’re also registered on the site so you only have to provide your information once.

• Link to LoveAdmin: https://app.loveadmin.com/ThirdpartyRegistration.aspx?clubID=83389f80175f9e6c5a 03c4ea63797af7 • If you already have a LoveAdmin account, you’ll still need to complete a new registration for CBHCC Juniors. • Once registered, you’ll be led to the payments page and be asked to pay in full. • Payments will appear on your bank statement as ‘Go Cardless’ with reference to CBHCC Juniors.

Obituaries

Mark Fearnall Mark played for Dave Atkin’s Over 40s for the last six years (and a bit before), as well as turning out now and then on a Saturday.

Mark died in February 2020 following an illness. Dave Atkin, CBH Blazers Over 40s captain said, “Foxy was a regular in our Over 40's team. The side was renamed the 'Blazers' in 2015, which suited him as he was the only member of the squad to arrive at all matches wearing proper attire - a blazer! He also represented our 4th XI on the odd occasion.

“A true team man, he was always available for selection (except May week at Chester Races) and developed a leg side power-hitting game to compete with some of the newer members of the squad.

“Foxy won the Over 40's Captain's Award in 2019 in recognition of his unwavering support of the team and the club, and for his contributions to our success in recent years. This was epitomized when he arranged for a minibus to take us to Finals Day in 2018, where he led the charge from the balcony proudly wearing his team tie.

“He will be sorely missed by all the Over 40's squad and the wider club community. The bar was always a happier place with Foxy in it and we will remember with great fondness all the laughs and good times we had together”.
