Second Hand Uniform 07796 266165 To accompany the recital, Asuka had prepared a presentation which she (Annabel) delivered to the students before each piece, explaining the context of each piece in the programme. The recital itself was breathtaking; Asuka's High Notes technical skill on the piano and sensitivity in conveying the music was highnotes@wilmslow exceptional. high..sch.uk Her introductions to each piece were very helpful for the students in placing the repertoire in musical / historical context and really added to the enjoyment of the music. Asuka then had a Q&A session with the students and gave them an insight into her practice schedule. She also explained how she prepares for performances, which was particularly interesting for our aspiring musicians.

It was an emotional event for the staff too, welcoming back this incredibly @wilmslowhigh talented (but always modest!) student. When Asuka arrived at Wilmslow @whigh_maths High in Year 8, she spoke little English, yet she has now reached such a level of expertise in her subject and confidence in public speaking. @whigh_eng wilmslowhigh.com It was a real honour for us to host this recital, and we wish Asuka all the best for the next stages of her career. - Mrs K Doyle

3 This week's assembly: Black History Month history should not be separated by colour, whereas others felt it was still important to have a point in the year to stress the role black people and ethnic minorities played in British history. Thankfully, we now live at a time, when the situation for black people, and ethnic minorities, is much improved, compared to 50 years ago.

Open Evening Over 600 parents and families visited the school during Open Evening and Open Day last week. Our guests were treated to an impressive variety of displays, presentations and interactive activities as they moved around the school site on Open Evening, with many families being guided by one of over 180 Year 8 student helpers. On the following day, parents had the opportunity to see the school in action and speak to their 6th form tour guides during their one hour tour.

As always, the feedback forms completed by parents on both days were very positive and complimentary, with the student guides being singled out for their excellent informative inputs. Exam Stress On Wednesday 3rd October the BBC’s “Trust Me, I’m A Doctor” featured an interesting item about exam stress.

The item featured Professor David Putwain of Liverpool John Moores University. We have been working with Professor Putwain for a number of years now, supporting his research on students’ experience of exam stress and using his expertise to train our staff, inform our policies and provide help for our students. We are about to offer a package of help to some Year 11 students who are reporting high levels of exam-related anxiety which will be provided by a member of his team.

Parents and students who are concerned about, or interested in, exam-related stress are encouraged to have a look at the link below and access the resources linked from there. One of the key messages is that stress is an entirely normal and often useful response to examinations and assessments. However, for students who find that the levels of stress become unmanageable there are some effective, easily learned strategies they can use to help themselves.
