History

• The village was called Samundzhievo until it was elevated to town status at the end of 1865 under the name of Orhanie. On 1 December 1934 the city was named Botevgrad after Hristo , the great Bulgarian revolutionary. Location • Botevgrad is a town in western . It is located in district. Botevgrad lies 47 km from Sofia. Population (2012) • City 20,052 • Density 380/km2 (970/sq mi) Tourism • Botevgrad History Museum was inaugurated in 1937. The museum is located at Square in the centre of Botevgrad.

• The CLOCK TOWER of Botevgrad is the symbol of the town. Its clock mechanism still rings every hour with a respective number of bell rings based on the current hour.
