Introduction The Camino de Santiago (the Way of St. James) is a large network of ancient pilgrim routes stretching across Europe and coming together at the tomb of St. James (Santiago in Spanish) in Santiago de Compostela in North-western Spain. The Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela reached its peak during the Middle Ages and it is safe to say that it constituted a major cultural aspect of that period of history in Europe. Nowadays there are different ways to make these pilgrim routes on foot, horseback, by bike and even sailing in a yacht.

We have rescued the Legend of Saint James by offering a route that combines sailing on a yacht through the Galician Rias Baixas (Low Estuaries), with walking along the traditional Portuguese route to Santiago de Compostela Cathedral. This trip offers tradition, history, trekking, sailing, Galician gastronomy and beautiful old Pazos (Noble Manor Houses) to spend the night. The departure port is Vigo and the arrival port is Boiro. It is a 3-day sailing cruise (90 nautical miles) where we`ll be crossing the Rías of Vigo, and Arousa. On the last day of our journey, we make the ascent of the Ulla river by a small motorboat and we end up walking the last 7 km from Milladoiro to reach Santiago de Compostela. We invite you to explore the sea route, a different way to complete one of the Caminos de Santiago, which covers the history of the pilgrimage as well as the experience of undertaking the spiritual aspects of setting off for the shrine of Saint James. This new Camino follows the sailing steps of the Apostle St. James did centuries ago!. The Xacobea Nautical Crossing is an officially recognized route to earn La Compostela certificate by sailing and visiting the most emblematic sea corners of the Rías Baixas. The official requires are to make the crossing by sailing a minimum of 90 nautical miles, stopping in all the official ports that point the route to stamp your Credential. The last part of the Camino is by foot, walking the last 7 km of the Portuguese Way from the town of Milladoiro (Santa María chapel) to the Pilgrim`s office in Santiago of Compostela. The Maritime Camino makes for a stand-alone journey for those that are looking for a short Camino experience or seeking a quieter and more contemplative route.
