Criteria for the CARE International Country List

As of FY10, CARE began explaining its work inclusively, meaning that when describing the number of countries where CARE works, we include:  All Country Offices  All countries where CARE worked through partners or funded the activities of partners  All CARE International Members, Candidates, Affiliates and/or their sub-offices  The CARE International Secretariat offices  All CARE advocacy and fundraising offices

This decision was made to lessen the artificial distinction between CI Members, Candidates, Affiliates and Country Offices, particularly as the number of CI Members from the Global South increases. It also shows that CI Members from the Global North and their sub-offices are engaged in advocacy and other programmatic activities that support CARE’s global mission. Reporting CARE’s presence in this way also puts CARE in line with peer agencies that show their country presence in a similar manner.

CARE has a presence in a country if:

 CARE has an office in the country – a CI Member, Candidate or Affiliate office or sub- office, Country Office, etc.;

1 CARE International Members, Candidates and Affiliates may implement projects and initiatives in their own countries.  CARE funds are going to a project or initiative in the country at any time during the FY; implemented by CARE or by a partner organization;  CARE has a long term or temporary agreement to work in the country through partners or independently and was active in the country at some point during the FY.  A CARE team is based in the country at any time during the FY and undertook activities to further CARE’s mission.
