About living in Japan 1. [Status of residence] The status of residence that will be granted by the Immigration Bureau is "Student." If you have the residence status of "Study," you will be allowed to engage in an activity (part-time job) outside the scope of your status for 28 hours a week with the permission of the Immigration Bureau. In reality, however, it is very difficult to balance study (which is your original purpose of coming to Japan) with a part-time job. We strongly recommend that you have sufficient economic stability to concentrate on your schoolwork. 2. [Residence] Currently, Josai University has no dormitory. You will be required to find yourself a place to live while studying in Japan. Possible ways to find a place to live include asking your acquaintances living in Japan and contacting a real estate agency via the Internet. If you cannot find a place to live, consult with the Japanese Studies Program Office. Be advised that the apartment rooms that we can introduce may be limited to those around Josai University and near of the Tobu Tojo line. 3. [Living expenses] Many of the foreign students studying at Josai University live near Sakado Station of the Tobu Tojo line. Assuming that you live in an apartment near Sakado Station, your monthly living expenses can roughly be calculated as shown below. Note that this is a rough estimate. If you are not willing to save money, you will end up spending more.
