Based in the UK’s second City, the Club is regarded as one of the largest and most successful County Cricket Clubs in England & . Since 2012, Warwickshire is the only Club to have won all three domestic trophies and has reached Finals Day in 2014, 2015 and 2017, being the winners in the first of those appearances. In 2014, the Club rebranded its T20 Vitality Blast team to “Birmingham Bears” as a strategic move to raise awareness and develop closer relationships with the people and businesses of our closest communities. In 2016, the Warwickshire Women’s squad was brought within the Club’s management structure and in 2019 the Birmingham Bears were crowned Vitality Women’s County T20 champions. Our assets include the iconic Edgbaston stadium, which is set for further development over the new Strategic Plan, our Community Sports Ground and our Indoor School. 2019 saw the Club achieve record revenue of £26.5m through a team of 120 highly-committed and skilled people, including the playing squads and coaching staff.

Job Purpose Warwickshire CCC has a long history of success as one of the most successful clubs within English red and white ball domestic cricket. This must continue, so the primary aim of this role is to develop competitive teams capable of winning all major domestic trophies, at all times performing to the standards and values expected by a club of Warwickshire CCC’s stature. The First Team Coach (FTC) will be responsible and accountable for all areas relating to the preparation and performance of the professional playing squad. This includes the day- to-day management of the assistant coaches and the medical team. The FTC will report to the Director of Cricket and execute the club’s agreed cricketing strategy to budget and expectation with KPIs agreed annually. The FTC will be expected to communicate regularly with the Director of Cricket regarding all performance and player issues. This includes issues relating to injury, discipline and professionalism.

The FTC will perform his/her duties in a professional manner and serve as a role model in line with the club’s core values and strategic plan.

Remit This role covers all ECB regulated men’s competition (currently the , RL50 and the Vitality Blast); club agreed friendlies and exhibition games; an advisory role with West Midlands Women’s Cricket Limited (Central Sparks). Involvement with the is subject to seperate discussion.

Accountabilities The FTC is ultimately responsible for the performance of the Men’s 1st XI based on pre- agreed performance objectives across all competitions. The FTC is responsible for the cul- ture of the 1st XI and the players approach to 1st XI cricket.

THE ROLE

The main duties and responsibilities are;

1. To ensure that the professional playing squad has detailed 12-month personal development, cricket and training programmes.

2. To travel with the first team to all competitive matches and allocate the responsibilities of the other specialist coaches and cricket management where appropriate.

3. To be responsible for the organisation and co-ordination of training and practice sessions and ensure that the playing squad are best prepared to perform at their full potential.

4. To act as a member of the Selection Committee with the 1st XI captain.

5. To appraise the Club’s playing staff with the Director of Cricket on a three times per year basis.

6. To attend regular meetings with the Club’s Playing Staff and other Coaches employed by the Club.

7. To advise the Director of Cricket on the performance of the Club’s Playing Staff and Coaches and the recruitment, retention and engagement of players and coaches.

8. To be constantly aware of the physical fitness and workloads of players and to monitor the frequency of any treatment to injured players.

9. To be familiar with the ECB’s Rules and Regulations and Playing Conditions.

10. To deal with the Press and Media diplomatically and to maintain confidentiality on behalf of the Club, Players and Coaches at all times.

11. To advise the Director of Cricket and the First XI Captain on the capping of first and second team players.

12. To Chair regular meetings of the Cricket Management Team.

13. Carry out other duties, appropriate to the position of FTC as required

Required experience

• Tangible proof of developing teams capable of winning domestic cricket competition.

• Proven success at winning trophies, domestically or internationally within recognised cricket competition.

• Experience of creating a winning mentality within the elite player group and a winning culture/environment within domestic cricket.

• Proven experience of managing, motivating and developing the coaching and support staff in order to deliver sporting success.

• Knowledge of managing relationships with international players and governing bodies in order to manage player development and welfare.

• Extensive knowledge and understanding of the professional domestic game from recreational through to national and international levels

Qualifications

• ECB Level 3 or 4 coaching qualification (or equivalent internationally recognised accreditation).

• Current DBS, Child Protection (Safeguarding Young People). Special Conditions The post holder will be based at the as part of the Elite Cricket Department. Due to the nature of the work the post holder will carry out his/her duties as such times/days which are most effective to perform the tasks required. This may involve some out of hours work – evenings, weekends, Bank Holidays, as necessary. The Club will require attendance at events, presentations and meetings at various times. The policies of the Club reflect a 52-week, 7-day operation for all cricket provision.
