ASK A MMAP COUNSELOR First Monday of the Month 1:00pm–3:30pm No Charge Whether you are new to Medicare and/or Medicaid or a long-time partici- pant, it’s important to get the facts so that you can make informed deci- sions. A Medicare Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP) counselor will be at the Civic Park Senior Center the first Monday of every month. They will answer your Medicare and/or Medicaid questions, help fill out forms, and assist with evaluating Medigap supplemental plans, Medicare Advantage and long-term care insurance policies. Come to your appointment prepared with information about your health insurance needs and a list of all the prescriptions you are taking. MMAP is a private, non-profit agency that is not connected with any insurance company and does not sell insurance products. ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT GROUP Thursday, February 6th 10:00am Facilitators from Home Instead Senior Care are available beginning at 10:00am for an open discussion for family, friends and loved ones of those living with Alzheimer’s or de- mentia related issues. No reservations are necessary. Just drop in. Refreshments will be supplied. GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP First and Third Thursdays of the Month 1:30-3:00pm Beginning in August, Residential Hospice will be hosting a grief support group at the Civic Park Senior Center meeting twice a month. This offers a safe place for adults who have experienced a significant loss to come together and talk. The goal of the group is to provide the opportunity to help understand the grieving process by sharing their story and hearing stories of others, and gain- ing coping skills, companionship, and permission to grieve. The group is led by Kayla Gaddis, Bereavement Coordinator and LLMSW. Please register for this group by calling Residential Hospice Bereavement Department at 1-866- 902-5854. The group is free and everyone is welcome.

LIVONIA TRAVEL DAY Friday, February 7th 1:30pm Livonia Travel Club and other travel companies will be at the senior center to present their upcoming trips. Cost to join the Livonia Travel Club is $3.00 for a one-year membership and covers January-December. Registration cards are available at the senior center.

LUNCH BUNCH-RED LOBSTER Monday, February 10th 11:00am Join us for our monthly lunch bunch group as we visit Red Lobster. The bus departs from the Civic Park Senior Center. ASK THE LAWYER February 14th & 28th 1:30—3:00pm The clinic will operate at the Civic Park Senior Center. The purpose of “Ask the Lawyer” legal clinics are to offer free, limited legal advice to residents of the State of Michigan on a first-come, first-served basis. Legal volunteers cannot file court papers for you or appear in court on your behalf. The do not offer legal representation. Their manner of advocacy is direct assistance, legal advice and counsel, research and scholarship, education, media outreach, policy development and public programming. Attorneys may charge up to $10.00 for performing each notarial act. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before 3:00pm.

FALL SCREENING WITH VIRTUSENSE TECHNOLOGY Wednesday, February 26th 1:00-3:00pm Free Are you at risk of falling? Come to the Civic Park Senior Center and identify and reduce your risk of falls through a quick, evidence-based, gait, and functional assessment provid- ed by VirtuSense Technologies. VirtuSense is a computer generated program using camera and different data. It will help to identify any person with risk for falls depending on their walking speed and the way they walk. It compares the result of the individual with re- search data of their age group and gives a result if they are high risk for falls or low risk for falls. It is done by physical therapists from Wellspring Lutheran Services. It also tests balance in standing persons with sensory issues on their feet from neuropathy or diabetes. FALL PREVENTION EXERCISE CLASSES 2nd Wednesday of the Month Starting in March at 1:00pm FREE Starting on March 11th, Wellspring Lutheran Services with host a fall prevention exercise class carried out by health care professionals/therapists. This will take place the second Wednesday of every month. The goal is to improve strength, balance and improve mobility and flexibility. The class typically runs for 45 minutes. No registration. (SENIOR CITIZEN ACHIEVEMENT NEEDS) BUS The S.C.A.N. buses provide curb-to-curb rides to residents 62 and over, within the City limit on a donation basis. Rides are available to local shopping districts, grocery stores, Westland Mall (1st & 3rd Thursday 10:30am) and to the senior center. Service hours for the senior center are Monday thru Friday. 1. Senior center: Buses leave from the senior center at 8:30am and we ask that you be ready for pick up by 8:30am. Buses return home 1:00pm Monday–Friday and 3:00pm Mondays, Tuesdays & special event days. 2. Grocery shopping: Monday-Friday (locations vary) depending if you are North or South of 5 Mile Road. See below for shopping locations. Driver will inform riders of the amount of time allowed at the store and pickup location at designated time. 3. Westland Mall: Shopping takes place on the 1st (minimum of 4 riders) & 3rd Thurs- days of every month. Bus departs for pickup at 10:30am so please be ready for pickup at that time. Once at the mall the driver will inform you of the amount of time you will be allowed and the pickup location (usually where you are dropped off).

DOCTOR’S VAN Monday-Friday 9:00am-2:30pm Monday-Friday the Civic Park Senior Center offers a shuttle to doctors’ offices within the City of Livonia and up to one mile outside the City limits. Please contact (734) 466-2555 to make your advance reservation. There is no charge for this service (donations gratefully accepted). This service fills up quickly so please call as soon as you know the date and time of your appointment. All vehicles are wheelchair equipped. Age 62 and over. Reservations accepted up to 90 days in advance. Maximum of two (2) rides per week. You must make your appointment so that you are able to get home before/no later than 2:30pm. Our vehicles do not provide transportation to or from nursing homes or assisted living facilities. We do not transport medical emergencies!

TOLEDO MUD HENS GAME Wednesday, July 1st 9:30am departure $32.00 residents & $36.00 non-residents The Toledo Mud Hens are a professional Minor League Baseball team based in Toledo, Ohio. The Mud Hens play in the International League and are affiliated with the Detroit Tigers franchise of Major League Baseball. This trip will depart from Ford Field in Livonia at 9:30am for a 12pm game against the Indian- apolis Indians. Cost is $32.00 residents and $36.00 non-residents.
