PDVCC NEWSLETTER

February 2016

First of all a very big thank you on behalf of the PDVCC competitors to all of you who marshalled on the VSCC

Measham Rally. Also, many congratulations and thanks to Jonathan & Sue Swales who organised the marshals for the event. It was a testing night for crew and but standing out all night in sub zero temperatures takes some commitment and as I've said many times before, these events would not be run without your help.

The inclement weather over the Christmas period ensured that the Boxing Day gathering at the Plough at Eaves had to be cancelled. The pub was apparently cut off albeit not directly affected by the floods around and about.

There was further disruption to another annual event on New Year's Day, when The Corner House was overwhelmed by the number of attending. What has traditionally been a "vintage" meeting at the previous venue, was apparently dominated by classics and exotica leaving little room for vintage machinery, many members being unable to get near the car park. No such problems with the curry night in Darwen though.

Twenty nine members enjoyed delicious Indian cuisine and good company at Anaz where we were made very welcome once again. Thanks to John Warburton for organising a good social evening.

You will find a revised copy of the PDVCC Events Calendar with the Newsletter which includes the date for th the "final" performance of the Brass & Fireworks Proms. Please make a note in your diaries for the 16 July so that we really can make this a night to remember at Hollowforth Hall.

st Sunday 31 January. Social and Walk To be organised by Howard and Jane Atkins. A varied and circular walk without an incline in sight has been arranged in the Rufford area. Saturday 30th April to Monday 2nd May Peter Booth has received the following. If you are interested, let him know. "I am contacting you in the hope that some of your members may be willing to support the Scorton village annual Bikes and Barrows Festival held over the early-May Bank Holiday weekend. The Scorton 'Bikes and Barrows' Festival is an annual village event held in Scorton village (near Garstang) on the first Bank Holiday weekend of the year - this year it is over Saturday, 30 April, to Monday, 2 May. Many village residents put outside their houses various 'bikes and barrows' themed displays, and the Saturday is the village May Queen crowning and children's day. On the Sunday and Monday there are other family events, various stalls and other activities in the village including a music festival on the village field. In previous years we have invited single-make car clubs to display, but this year we thought it would be a change to invite a more eclectic selection of older vehicles and hence my approach to the Preston and District Vintage Car Club! Ideally we would be looking for around 6-10 interesting older vehicles (of any description!) to be displayed in and around the village square on either Sunday, 1 May 16, or Monday, 2 May 16. If you would be kind enough to ask if some of your members would be willing to support the Scorton event that would be fantastic and very much appreciated. Perhaps you might also be able to give me a heads-up if you think this may be possible."

Club Holiday in Wales 16th - 20th May - There are a maximum of 6 places still available on the Wales holiday. There are still rooms at the farm, a double, a twin and a single which would need to share a bathroom. For those wanting en-suite facilities, Lynn and Martin at Llanerchindda Farm are happy to recommend nearby hostelries. Phone 01550 750274 for information.
