1.5BEWAREOFSTITCHINGTOGETHERAMESONET BrianB.AyersandPaulG.Knight StateUniversity,UniversityPark,Pennsylvania 1.INTRODUCTION ThePennsylvaniaStateClimateofficeincooperation reportingstationsmeasurehourlyand withseveralstateandfederalagencieshas directionandspeed.Inaddition,theofficeis constructedanetworkofhourlyreporting incorporatingthestate'sapproximately200hourly sitesacrossPennsylvania.Thesesitesinclude32 precipitationgaugesoftheIntegratedFlood AutomatedSurfaceObservingSystems(ASOS) ObservingandWarningSystems(I-FLOWS)inthe maintainedbytheFAAplusahandfulofnewAWOS network(seeFigure1).WhentheNationalWeather (AutomatedWeatherObservingSystem)sites,82 Service'scooperativeweatherstations,whichsubmit RoadwayWeatherInformationSystems(RWIS) theirdatadaily(about125sites)areincludedwith operatedbythePennsylvaniaDepartmentof theirreportsofmaximumtemperature,minimum Transportation(PennDOT)and47Commonwealthof temperatureand24-hourprecipitation,wellover300 PennsylvaniaAirMonitoringSystem(COPAMS)sites, dailyobservationscanbedeterminedforthe whicharemaintainedbythePennsylvania Commonwealth.
