NYCF will present the first-ever Comedy Cen- tral Live show in Brooklyn which will feature stand-up from Hannibal Buress and performances by Nick Kroll, Natasha Leggero, John Mulaney and Jeff Ross with additional talent to be announced. “Comedy Central Live in Brooklyn” will take place at Kings Theatre on Friday, November 13 at 8:00 PM. Now in its 12th year, the NYCF runs from Novem- ber 10 – 15, taking place at many of New York City’s most prestigious venues. Since taking over NBC’s The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon has added his unique comedic wit, free-wheeling interview style, spot-on impersonations and parodies, pop culture and social media savvy, and signature bits #Hashtags, Thank You Notes and Slow Jam the News. AN EVENING WITH THE TONIGHT SHOW WRITERS will bring the show’s writers together to discuss their technique and style of making the show. Moderated by The New York Times’ Dave Itzkoff, this TimesTalks panel will take place on Saturday, November 14 at 2:00PM at The TimesCenter. In continuation of the NYCF’s partnership with the Paley Center for Media, the festival will present KEEPIN IT 100: AN EVENING WITH THE CREATIVE TEAM OF THE NIGHTLY SHOW WITH LARRY WILMORE panel featuring Larry Wilmore along with the team behind the show. Comedy Central’s “The Nightly Show” provides viewers with Wilmore’s deconstructive point of view and comedic take on current events and pop culture. The series also features a diverse panel of guests who offer a perspective largely missing in the late night television landscape. The panel will take place Saturday, November 14 at 4:00 PM at the Paley Center for Media. Tickets will go on sale for Paley Center members on Wednesday, October 7 and to the general public on Friday, October 9, and can be purchased at paleycenter.org or nycomedyfestival.com. Known for his cantankerous style of humor, Lewis Black has become a household name in comedy. His stand-up often involves his trademark angry-comic act, which he has been able to create, nurture and maintain throughout his career. “LEWIS BLACK IN CONVERSATION” will examine the veteran’s approach to comedy and the persona he’s created. The discussion will take place on Tuesday, November 10 at 7:30 PM at the 92nd St Y. Also added to the line-up is BRIDGET EVERETT AND THE TENDER MOMENTS at the Gramercy Theatre on Thursday, November 12 at 7:30PM, CRAIG ROBINSON AND THE NASTY DELICIOUS at Brooklyn Bowl on Sun- day, November 15 at 7:30PM and NEW YORK’S FUNNIEST STAND-UP COMPETITION FINALS at Carolines on Broadway on Sunday, November 15 at 4:00PM. In the spirit of bringing a diverse take on comedy to the festival, Bridget Everett will showcase her vocal talent in her provocative and uproarious stand-up show that will be sure to push the boundaries. Craig Robinson, who has played some of TV and film’s favorite characters, will draw from both his comedy and music backgrounds to deliver a unique stage performance. Launched in 2008, NEW YORK’S FUN- NIEST STAND-UP is a competition open to New York comedians and comedic performers. Past winners of NEW YORK’S FUNNIEST STAND-UP have included “Saturday Night Live” star Michael Che and “The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore” contributor Ricky Velez. “We are excited about the addition of these shows and panels to round out the lineup for the 2015 festival. February 26, 2021 Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer, Alabama are voting to form a union with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU). We are the writers of feature films and television series. All of our work is done under union contracts whether it appears on Amazon Prime, a different streaming service, or a television network. Unions protect workers with essential rights and benefits. Most importantly, a union gives employees a seat at the table to negotiate fair pay, scheduling and more workplace policies. Deadline Amazon accepts unions for entertainment workers, and we believe warehouse workers deserve the same respect in the workplace. We strongly urge all Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer to VOTE UNION YES. • A Gay/Straight Comparison of Gay Voices
A GAY/STRAIGHT COMPARISON OF GAY VOICES A RESEARCH PAPER SUBMITTED TO THE GRADUATE SCHOOL IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE MASTER OF ARTS BY SHANE LANNING DR. CAROLYN MACKAY - ADVISOR BALL STATE UNIVERSITY MUNCIE, INDIANA MAY 2015 Lanning-1 Introduction: This study compares 4 gay male comedians and 4 straight male comedians’ performances of “gay speech”. The researcher observed comedians who were performing gay characters for the following three variables: the lisp ([s̪ ] instead of [s]), a raised pitch, and formal [–iŋ] vs. informal [–In] endings. It was hypothesized that both straight comedians and gay comedians would manipulate their [s] production to the dental [s̪ ] when performing a gay character; moreover, the comedians would also raise their pitch during their performance. The [–iŋ] vs. [–In] sounds, because their production below the level of consciousness, would not vary in the homosexual or heterosexual comedians. The purpose of this comparison was to determine how salient the features were in each group in order to identify stereotypical features associated with gay speech. In other words, if all of the comedians were using a particular feature, one could postulate that this feature has a stronger association with perceived gay speakers. Conversely, if the comedians were not using a particular feature, one could postulate that this feature has a weaker association or is not associated at all with perceived gay speakers. In recent studies, participants were asked to rate speakers on a scale of homosexual to heterosexual and a scale of feminine to masculine. In these studies, the data showed that features like the lisp ([s̪ ] instead of [s]), received higher gay ratings; participants rated speakers’ sexuality as gay more often when they exhibited this feature (Mack & Munson, 2012).

The exhibition opened on November 8, 2016, with special preview performances from November 2 - 6, 2016 during the NYCF. Paranoia Man in a Rat Fink Room continues after the festival with events and discussions brought together by Storefront through February 18, 2017. The exhibition follows a tradition of spatial experimentation at Storefront where the boundaries between architecture, art, and the subject are dissolved into one continuous environment. The installation is a historical pastiche of urban and architectural experiences linked through a mise-en-scène comprised of three architectural environments - a Canal Street style kiosk filled with the leftover DVDs and VHSs from Jungle Video (a now defunct media superstore in Los Angeles); a comedy club partially inspired by the original Rat Fink Room (the world's first dedicated stand-up comedy club, which opened in 1963); and a bathroom that has been converted into surveillance headquarters that will keep audio/video recordings of the last days of Storefront. ABOUT PARANOIA MAN IN A RAT FINK ROOM Storefront for Art and Architecture is closing its doors for good*.

Now picture your name in flashing lights outside some of the biggest and most well-known theatres in the world as you sell out comedy shows night after night. This is the reality of Natasha’s life and how humble beginnings can lead to an extraordinary endings. (more) 1 The Life and Times of Natasha Leggero From an early age she was never really into comedy. She was a child actor, not a child star, but a thespian. Leggero loved to act and was in many of her high school plays in Rockford, Illinois. As quickly as she graduated she moved even quicker to New York City to go to Hunter College and get her degree in theatre criticism. She began reviewing plays after she graduated but that was not cutting it for her so she moved to Los Angeles. In an interview with Comedy Central, Leggero exclaimed, “I just got onstage one night and I just was really talking about what I thought about Los Angeles. I didn’t really think people would laugh or I didn’t even know what a comedian really was.
