ASSISTANT COACHES BRI KULAS • 3RD YEAR Former Missouri standout Bri Kulas is in her third season as an assistant coach for Ball State. Kulas works with the post players. The Overland Park, Kansas, native played professional basketball after completing her collegiate career. The San Antonio Stars selected her with the 28th pick in the 2014 WNBA Draft. Kulas also played professionally in Spain for Gran Canaries and Rivas and in Germany for Halle Lions. Kulas was a first-team All-SEC selection by the league’s coaches and earned sec- ond-team All-SEC honors from the Associated Press. Kulas helped guide BSU last year to a 21-10 overall record with 13 more wins than the Cardinals had in 2018-19. Ball State had wrapped up its season with an overall 8-23 ledger. The 13-game turnaround led all NCAA Division I women’s basketball programs and ranks 30th all-time in NCAA history. AUDREY SPENCER • 6TH YEAR Spencer enters her sixth season as an assistant coach for the Cardinals in 2020-21. In 2017, the Ball State women’s basketball team ended non-conference action with an 11-0 record, making them one of only seven teams nationally that were still undefeated and one of two non-Power 5 teams on the list. The 11 straight non-conference wins also marked the second-longest win streak in program history (12 in 2008-09 which included a win over Tennessee in the NCAA Tournament). The Cardinals ended non-conference action with Power 5 victories over Vanderbilt (88-79) and Pur- due (66-60), along with wins over Big East opponent Butler (87-75) and Conference USA’s Western Kentucky (93-81). At the end of non-conference play, Ball State ranked 21st nationally in the RPI. The Cardinals also made their sixth straight appearance in the Women’s National Invitation Tourna- ment, advancing to the second round. ROMAN TUBNER • 1ST YEAR Tubner joins the Cardinals staff after spending the 2019-20 campaign as an assistant coach at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW). While on the Seahawks staff, Tubner worked with three student-athletes who garnered All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) honors, including the CAA Scholar Athlete of the Year. Prior to his arrival in Wilmington, Tubner spent the 2018-19 season at Indiana State University where he was named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) 30 under 30 list. The award recognizes 30 up-and-coming women’s basketball coaches age 30-and-under at all levels of the game for their exemplified involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner and attitude, and professional association involvement. Tubner brings a wealth of collegiate coaching experience to Ball State, as he has also seen stints at Austin Peay State University (2017-18) and Arkansas Tech University (2014-17).
