51 East 47th Street, 17, N.Y. February 26, 1952.

FOR RELEASE AT WILL

The sentiment of the independent voter in his apparent demand for Dwight D. Eisenhower's nomination for the presidency by the Republican National convention, was underscored today by the growing list of the nation's newspapers for his nomination. A tally completed on February 21, 1952, showed seventy of the country's leading dailies lined up behind Ike's campaign with publicly-stated reasons why Eiserthower should be nominated. Thirty-seven of the dailies that gave their endorsement to Eisenhower list themselves as Independent in political thought. Six of the 70 newspapers are old-line Democratic papers, some of which - for the first time - have abandoned their traditional party allegiance to back Eisenhower. The Atlanta (Ga.) constitution is but one of the important Democratic newspapers that has swung into line behind Ike. Heading the list of Independent newspapers for Eisenhower is , the Kansas City Star and the St. Louis Globe-Democrat. And, among the Independent-Republican newspapers is the -Tribune. Here is a breakdown, by states, of the newspapers that, as of February 21, 195a, had given their support to Eisenhower:
