LIVE THE LITURGY Inspiration for the week Do we really understand how important our relationships with our brothers and sisters throughout the world truly are? Many give God’s commandment to love your neigh- bor and yourself a congenial glance of approval and agreement without really thinking about the implications. Sometimes it is easier to kneel in reverence before the tabernacle in a church than to kneel in reverence before the tabernacle of another person’s soul. Witnessing and being consumed by the Divine Power alive in the heart of every living being transforms not only how we see our brothers and sisters but how we see God Himself. The cries of the poor and those who are hurting must echo in our hearts. We can no longer be deaf to the world’s pain. It is no longer acceptable to judge others, unduly criticize, or marginalize, neglect, abuse, manipulate, or participate in the exploitation of anyone! We are asked to become hypersensitive to not only what we are doing, but why we are doing it. This holds true not only with regard to the daily conduct of our lives but our economic and corporate relationships and policies as well.

Respect Life “The Gospel of Life is at the heart of Jesus’ saving message to the world. Through the incarnation and birth of Christ, God reveals to us the dignity of all human life. Human life, as a gift of God, is sacred and inviolable. ...Not only must human life not be taken, but it must be protected with loving concern.” ~ USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities † We pray that God may grant us the wisdom and courage to lovingly protect His gift of human life at every stage, in sickness and in health.

~ Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time ~

Blessed Chiara Badana Confessor (+ 1990) Feast: October 29 Chiara was born in northern Italy in 1971, after her parents had prayed for a child for eleven years. At nine, she went with them to a gathering organized by the Catholic movement Focolare. From this time, Chiara grew in attachment to Christ. She said, “I want to make this wonderful book [the Gospel] the only goal of my life.” She entered high school with enthusiasm, enjoying parties, sports, and school events. Her peers were inevitably drawn to her. When her mother asked, whether she spoke to them of Jesus, she said, “No… I give them Jesus.” When Chiara was seventeen, a sharp pain in her shoulder was diagnosed as terminal bone cancer. For sixteen months, she accepted her progressive decline with joy, serenity, and surrender. Unable to walk after her first chemotherapy treatment, Ciara reached out through letters and the telephone. A stream of visitors came to her door. Chiara Lunbich, foundress of Focolare, wrote to encourage and confer on her new name: Chiara Luce, “clear light.” Shortly before her death, she chose the white dress she would wear when her body was laid out, and the hymns for her funeral. “See, I have nothing left, but I still have my heart and with that I can still love,” she said. Her last words, spoken to her mother: “Goodbye! Be happy, I am!” She was beatified in 2010 Loving Father, through the intercession of Blessed Chiara Badano, grant me the clarity of a child. Make my heart simple.
