Summary of Jakkeri Multi colored granite quarry of Tmt.Premalatha, S.F.No.201 (part), Jakkeri village, taluk, District, . Extent – 1.62.0Ha

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT

Tmt. Premalatha is having a lease for quarrying Multi-Coloured Granite in S.F.No: 201 (Part) for over an extent of 4.0 acres (1.62.0Ha) in Jakkeri Village, , . The mining lease was granted vide G.O. 3D No.201 dated 12.07.1995, executed on 03.08.1995 and valid till 02.08.2005. The lessee has submitted renewal application to the Commissioner of Geology & Mining, Guindy, Chennai. The lessee is entitled by the orders of the Hon.High Court to carry on the quarry operation till the application for renewal are considered and disposed by the state Government.

The Mining plan period was 2005-06 to 2009 -10 and the first scheme of quarrying was due from 2010 -11 to 2014 -15. The first scheme of quarrying was not prepared in time. Hence the Second Scheme of quarrying was prepared and submitted for the period of 2015 – 16 to 2019 -20 (five years).

This project falls under category ‘B2’ since the mining lease area is less than 50 Ha and the total extent of quarries within 500m is 7.79.5Ha (including the present lease area of 1.62.0Ha) which is less than 25Ha.

This project pertains to mining of grey granite with peak yearly production capacity of about 24,100m3 of Granite (ROM) (4820m3 of recoverable granite).

This project site is located in S.F.No 201 (part) in Jakkeri village, Denkanikottai Taluk of Krishnagiri District, Tamil Nadu. This project site has well established connection facilities. The site is approachable from – Rayakottai road. The nearest railway station is Kelamangalam RS located 4.6km in NW. The lease area falls between latitude 12°34’31.5"N to 12°34’39.3"N and longitude 77o52’55.0” E to 77o52’58.5”E and falls in Survey of Toposheet No. 57H/14.

The Geological resources have been computed up to the economically workable depth of 65m maximum depth from the top of the hill at the rate of 20% recovery yields 62,626m3 and 3,13,130m3 of ROM. Mineable reserves have been computed as 23,240m3 at the rate of 20% recovery and 1,16,200 m3 of ROM up to a depth of 65m maximum from the top of the hill. Based on the proposed peak yearly production rate of 4820 m3 (20% reserves) (24,100m3 of ROM),

the life of the mine is estimated to be 5 years (including the plan period). However, the life may increase in case the production is not achieved within the plan period.

The lease area does not include any forest land. No ecologically sensitive features like national parks, biospheres, sanctuaries, elephant corridors, Tiger reserves, flight paths of migrating fauna, etc occur in the core zone of the project. The area does not come under CRZ category. In the buffer zone, Kauvery North wildlife Sanctuary – 3.9km – S is located.

In the 10km buffer zone major water bodies like Chinnar river – 2.68km – W and Ponnaiyar river – 10km – NE, forests like Sanamavu reserved forest – 4.3km – N, Udedurgam reserved forest – 3.9km – S, Denkanikota RF – 5.2km – SW are found.

Open cast semi mechanized quarrying with 5m bench height and bench width of 5m has been followed. Primary splitting of rock mass from the parent sheet rock is adopted using diamond wire cutting along the horizontal as well as two vertical sides along the width direction and the third vertical face behind the front face. The split blocks are toppled and removed from the pit to the dressing yard using hydraulic cranes. Removing the defective portion and dressing into the dimensional blocks are done manually using feather, wedges, and chiselling respectively by the experienced skilled labours or by Innovative machineries. The defect free, dimensional stones of different sizes are marketed. Blasting will be done only for removal of small portion of over burden using gun powder and safety fuse detonator in the holes drilled by Jack hammer.

In the post mining stage, out of the total lease area of 1.62 Ha, Greenbelt will be developed in 0.19.4 Ha. The waste generated during mine plan period of 92,980m3 (Granite waste 80%) which is temporarily dumped on the North western and South Eastern side of the 7.5m boundary barrier will be backfilled in the mined out pits. Besides, re-handled stocking block area and possible infrastructure area will also be reclaimed.

The total water requirement is about 1KLD, comprising 0.3 KLD for drinking and domestic purpose, 0.3 KLD for dust suppression and 0.4 KLD for green belt development. Total water required for the mine will be met from vendors and existing bore well.

The total cost of the project is Rs.7.0 Lakhs. Mines office and other facilities already exist. Total manpower required will be 35 on direct basis. Indirectly more than 150 persons can
