Rack up season number 13 for writing this report. I say it every year, but this year went unbelievably quick – one minute we were registering kids in the clubhouse, the next we were celebrating two premierships and the ‘Club of the Year’ at the Diggers. And thank the sporting God for those two premierships as I could not have handled another season with a duck egg next to my name.

My previous two reports had listed a number of areas we needed to address to get the Club back in good order – not that we were too far off track, there were just a few things happening that were ‘un-St Christopher’ like. This year we weeded out the players who constantly disrupted training, the players and parents who couldn’t respect the referee, and whinging parents who disrupt team harmony. We got most! It’s good to open with a bit of aggro to get your attention.

But let’s talk footy. We registered 244 players to form 16 teams from U5s to U19s (5 mini, 7 mod and 4 international). Our mini numbers were down on previous seasons – this may well have been due to losing Jon D’Astoli’s previous great work with the primary schools when he retired from the committee. We can work on that. More disappointing was that we lost our U15’s a few weeks into the pre-season. Many of the boys had been with us since U5’s, but at the end of the day you can’t make them play.

On the park our minis were very successful – keep in mind the indicators for success in minis are ’learning the game’ and ‘fun’. Clearly both were achieved as all our sides were very competitive (all would have made semis if competition tables were kept) and our numbers remained constant right ‘til season end.

The mods went really well. Five of the seven made the semis, all five made it to the second week of the semis, three made it to the final and one made it to the grand final. And that same one (our U11-1’s) went on the snare our first U11-1 premiership since 1992. Coached by the much maligned and often misunderstood enigma known as Mr Sahyoun (or No. 90 as he is now known), the boys were the benchmark all season, taking out the minor premiership. Unfortunately a poorly placed wash out and then a bye meant they were underdone coming into the semis. However, come GF time they were bubbling and put on 40 against the team they couldn’t score a point against only two weeks before. Great work team. That was our 90th premiership and it has taken a while to click that up. Thanks, much appreciated.

The internationals also performed. The 13’s made it to the semis and were unluckily beaten in extra time. The 16’s didn’t make the semis, but were competitive in every game and finished the season with a full roster (always a good indicator of a good season). The 19’s were minor premiers, but didn’t take that next step and were bundled out in the final. I hate excuses, but with three wash outs, two forfeits and a bye strategically placed in their season to minimise game time, it did make it very hard to build momentum.

Not so for the 14’s! They only had the three wash outs to contend with and built nicely all season to claim the minor premiership and then be first into the GF. Coach Mulvihill believes it wasn’t their best performance, BUT what a game for a grand final! A penalty goal on the bell locked the scores at 14 all and pushed the game into 10 minutes extra time. It was still 14 all with five seconds left when Jon Pengue swooped on a loose ball faster than his dad on a winning TAB ticket and raced 70 metres untouched to score under the sticks as the siren sounded. Unbelievable. Well done team. That was our 91st premiership and we had only ever won one U14’s previously way back in 1987!!

But it turned out to be the weekend that just kept giving when we were named ‘Club of the Year’. Though there is no published criteria for this award, I believe contributing factors would include correct player registrations complete with IDs; Coaches, trainers and FAOs with current qualifications; All club and team officials having completed ‘Working with children’ checks; accurate and transparent accounts; well run game days including canteen facilities; competitive teams with strong numbers and no forfeits; minimal send offs; and no ‘Code of conduct’ offences. Your hardworking Committee (and Mette) strive to meet these criteria every year and then push them down to team officials, players and parents. We ticked all the boxes this year and got a reward we all can be proud of.

4 At our AGM back in December 2015 we elected two more life members - Jon D’Astoli and Ken Slattery. Both have been (and continue to be) tireless workers for the Club and are fitting recipients of this prestigious title. Please take time to read their contributions to the Club contained in this book a few pages on. Congratulations men.

And while on workers, I must make special mention of Mette Kitiona and Ken Hanratty. Mette took over the canteen this year and what a great job she did. Not only did Mette work hard to provide us with all sorts of goodies, she got her whole family to help shop, unload, stock the shelves and serve – thank you Mette and ‘Team Kitiona’.

Life member Ken Hanratty did his usual ‘Kodak Kenny’ and took our team photos, but also decided to spend extra Saturday mornings in the Clubhouse putting up additional honour boards and get the existing ones up to date. Our boards are now organised in such a manner that we only need to stick names on for the next 50 years – no juggling boards! Thanks Ken. I hope ‘future me’ appreciates it.

Socially we had a big opening night, the Kids movie night and a great GF night, all at the Diggers. Instead of a Ball on the long weekend we hosted the Eastern Raptors from Victoria in a ‘State of Origin’ style challenge against our U16s. A great weekend was had by all with thanks to Chris Keenan for putting this together. We also had ‘The Footy Show’ visit our U8’s to get some advice that only U8’s can give.

Now for the thank you’s: • Our generous sponsors; • Our coaches, managers, FAO’s and trainers for your efforts with the players; • Our team of Ground first aiders - Maureen Parnell, John Kitiona, Craig Jordan and Jenenne Papadopoulos; • The people who helped in the canteen (especially Katia Todd, Laura Phillips, Kylee Sullivan) and on the BBQ; • The people who assisted in selling raffle tickets at our venues, and Slats and JD for ‘coordinating’ these raffles; • Laura Phillips and her team for the Kid’s movie night; • Antony Gitsham and Slats for organising the Golf Day.

As always, thanks to our hardworking committee of Trev, Slats, Grant, Chris, Morsie and Baz. It takes many hours of dedicated work by these guys to keep the Club humming along so that your kids can enjoy their game of footy. We farewell Trevor as Club secretary for a third time – it’s for real this time, he’s got the house for sale (with Daystar of course). There is no doubt Trev’s attention to detail was a significant factor in our winning Club of the Year – we thank him for his many hours and wish him the best for the future.

That’s it – see you in a couple of months for season 2017.

GO THE SAINTS

5 SECRETARY’S REPORT

Audit, Accreditation, Competency, Compliance and Risk Management, all words we would generally associate with running a successful business. Well they apply equally to the successful management of any organisation including a club. As I pen this report our club is undergoing an independent audit to ensure we meet the standards expected. Fortunately, we will pass any scrutiny due to the hard working committee and members of our club.

So in writing this, my final secretary’s report I feel very comfortable in what we have achieved. Thank you to everyone in ensuring we meet our off field obligations. This has gone a long way to St Christopher’s winning the CBDJRL 2016 “Club of the Year Award”.

We were able to put sixteen teams on the park this year. Three participated in the Sydney Combined Competition. One junior international, seven modified games teams and five mini (non-competitive) teams playing in the Saturday CBDJRL competition. Of the competitive teams:

 Eleven of thirteen eligible teams participated in the final series;  Three teams, 19-1’s, 14-2’s and 11-1’s were minor premiers; and  Two, 14-2’s and 11-1’s going on to the Grand Final

It was our day. Both teams successful, congratulations, with the 14’s winners in what some are calling the game of the year. A try in the final second of extra time. You can’t ask for more.

Socially we enjoyed another successful golf day. Thank you to the organisers and congratulations to the winning team. The kid’s movie night was well attended and from the feedback I received was an enjoyable event for both kids and parents.

Many a fine afternoon was had at the Diggers Club each Saturday. The raffles were supported by most however some teams just don’t get it. Our club is dependent on this income. It goes a long way to funding end of year presentations.

Whilst teams were not asked to go to the Revesby Hotel for Saturday raffles, Jon D’Astoli (JD) did a tremendous job doing these when they did not compete with his team’s playing schedule. The Joker draw, another fund raiser run by JD went well. Thank you for the parents who made the time to attend. More importantly an even bigger thank you to JD.

This year saw a changing of the guard in our canteen. To the ladies that stepped up, thanks. It’s an unforgiving job, but one on which we heavily depend for income.

It takes a massive effort by more than 75 officials and many other volunteers to make a footy club successful. Each and every one of you has my personal thanks. We wouldn’t survive without your support.

Thank you to my fellow members of the executive team. Always working behind the scenes to ensure the club is successful. You are mostly not thanked and cannot recover the many hours lost with your family.

This is the 3rd time I am stepping down as club Secretary. It’s time for younger parents to put their hand up. We need fresh ideas and enthusiasm. Rugby League is changing on and off the field. It’s now a time for others to ensure our club continues with its success today, tomorrow, next season and well into the future

To quote Greals, “Go the Saints”.

17 MANAGER’S REPORT

As a first time Manager I arrived at Bill Delauney Reserve for pre-season training with a hint of fear and trepidation, but spurred on by words of wisdom from the great hall of fame manager Ross “Killer” Kendall I pushed on.

As Coach Cope, trainer Klem and myself approached the field for our first session we were determined to change the face of Under 5’s football and set about guiding our team towards glory. After ten minutes of this session and us having kids spread across every corner of Billy D, we decided that we may have to go back to the drawing board and an urgent post session meeting in the River Road Hotel was required. This was the first of many such meetings (much to Greal’s delight) and was instrumental in the boys having a lengthy unbeaten start to the season. A mid-season form slump saw us increase our intensity at these meetings, although we were assured Coach Cope had the full support of the board. The boys responded well, finishing the season in grand style.

All of the boys improved throughout the season and watching these guys play reminded us why we love this game. They are a fantastic bunch of boys and we couldn't be prouder.

Finally I would like to thank all of the parents (and grandparents) for all of their support and time volunteering for our early morning chores. A great group of people and a lot of fun was had. We look forward to seeing you all again next year.

PLAYER PROFILES

Alexander Barrett: Zander had a good first season of footy, being involved in everything. He scored his first try and worked hard on his tackling. Always listened and gave his best.

Ethan Barwick: Also in his first year, Etho put fear into the opposition (and a couple of refs) with his mighty roar. He was also happy to have a chat and help with the water and timekeeping.

William Cope: William was outstanding this year and was a try scoring machine, scoring forty tries using his speed and side step. This kid was born with a footy in his hands and we look forward to watching him progress.

Dane Klem: Dano had a great first season. He improved every game and was one of our best this year. He plays well above his weight and nothing fazes him on the footy field.

Mouin Moussa: On his day Mo tackles everything that moves and uses his speed to run the footy well. At only four it was a big effort for his first year.

Dexter Phelps: Another of the four year olds who had a great first season. Dex has the best fend you will ever see and has great pedigree. One to watch in the Under 5’s next year.

Liam Turner: Liam was also in his first year of footy. Being new to the game he is learning by training and playing and has made some good progress throughout the season.

Campbell Whitney: Cam made a massive improvement in his second year of footy. He scored tries and made some good tackles, which I know made his dad happy.

Elijah Saoud: Another one who was enjoying his first footy experience this year. Elijah is a good tackler on his day and will continue to improve.

Billy Sullivan: Billy lives and breathes footy. He scored over thirty tries this year. A very good runner of the ball and the best cover defence you will ever see from a five year old.

PLAYER PROFILES

Quinn Gifford-Moore: Quinn’s involvement this season has always been busy, he never stops trying and is one of the hardest runners in our competition. Quinn played with toughness, running like a bull and tackling with commitment. Keep up the great work next year Quinn.

Riley Miller: For such a young player Riley has footy skills that one would need years to master. He has great tackling, kicking and running the ball skills. Awesome season Riley.

Stephen Oloapu: Stephen’s commitment and involvement in the game for such a young person was amazing this season. His tackling skills were outstanding, he ran the ball fast and tackled hard - he is one tough little guy. Great season Stephen.

It is good to see his skills and game sense improving.

Charlie Rimington: As the season went on Charlie got more and more involved in each game. Not afraid to help with a tackle in defence, a good runner with the ball who made a number of good runs throughout the year. Charlie scored a couple of great tries this season, he also worked well when playing dummy half and first receiver.

Flynn Lovett: It was great to see the potential that Flynn showed in his first year of footy come to fruition. He was always first to move up in our defensive line and some of the tackles he made this season were awesome. Flynn also managed to straighten up his runs which led to a number a great runs and a number of great tries.

Jamal Moore: Jamal trained and played with great passion, he always had a smile on his face. He turned up to training most weeks and was keen to learn and develop his skills. His runs and involvement in the games improved as the season progressed.

Josh Rex: What a great first year of footy! A definite team player and someone every coach would enjoy having in their team. In defence Josh was always there, in attack Josh was always there. With his skill and speed he managed to get across the try line nearly every week. I am looking forward to seeing what you bring next year.

Ky McKeown: Ky progressed well throughout the season and his footy skills started to develop. He had a few rounds of self-doubt, but Ky pushed through and developed into a great team player. As his knowledge of the game grew so did his confidence. Ky has the size and speed to make a great footballer, he just needs to believe in himself.

Liam Maynard: A solid team player with a great attitude to training and to the game, Liam always gives his best and is always keen to get involved in all facets of the game. Liam picked up his attack this year. He produced some good runs and on several occasions was unlucky not to score his first ever try. We will fix that next year.

Tutanekai Whare: Each week Tutanekai got more and more involved in the game. The more Tutanekai got involved the more confident he got. By the end of the season he was making some great tackles and made some good runs.

Zac McKeown: Zac played a great first season of footy, each week getting more and more involved. Committed at training and on game day he always gave it a go and always got back up. By the end of the season Zac was running with the ball in attack and had even made his first tackle.

Isaac Rose: Turned up each week ready to go and full of energy. Has a no fear approach when it comes to tackling and was always keen to get involved in defence. Made some good runs with the ball and scored some good tries.

Israel Rose: Israel obviously loves footy and just wants to play every chance he gets. Every game Israel produced a large number of outstanding tackles, he also used his speed and skill to score a number of great tries throughout the season. There are no distractions when Israel is on the field and he is focused on the job he has to do. We can all see the potential you have. Hoping for big things next season.

Jonathan Boulos: Jonathan did well in his first injury shortened season. He has speed to burn and was easily the fastest kid in our team. Straighter runs next year will see Jonathan score plenty of good tries.

PLAYER PROFILES

Jacob Dodd: Jakey is one of the smallest on the field, but that has never stopped him from showing his courageous strong running. Jakey showed a few of the other boys what straight running was all about and backed it up towards the end of the year with some strong defence. Well done buddy.

Alexander Lopez: A new addition to the club and team, Alexander showed us his speed and evasive running that made it difficult for any defence to handle. When he knuckles down Alexander has the potential to be one of the best out there. Great first year.

Izhak Maarbani: Izhak missed a few games during the year, but his determination showed through when he came back. His defence was an asset that was missed when he was gone. Great year mate.

Noah Mikhail: New Noah came to us part way through the year and his skill was very welcome. A player definitely without weight on his side, but made up for it with grit and strength. New Noah fit right in with the boys and we can't wait to see him run around next year.

Caleb Mitchell: Something clicked in Caleb this year and it was all about defence. Caleb topped the tackle count on many an occasion, running himself ragged. It was a pleasure to watch him enjoy his footy so much. Excellent year mate.

Tyler Munn: It is amazing to see the technique that Tyler possesses for such a young footballer. The way he tackles and the strength with which he runs is something that you cannot teach. Definitely a player to watch in the future. Fantastic work buddy.

Declan O'Donovan: Deco is a try scoring machine! 26 tries or 104 points this year cemented Deco as our leading try scorer. He could do it from anywhere as well with size and strength to boot. Deco's passion for the game is unmatched and shows through in each game he plays.

Harry Paine: A strong running Harry is always a handful for any opposition. Unfortunately we will miss it from now on with the Paine's leaving us for sunny Queensland. Good luck mate, we will miss you.

Michael Psirakis: A powerful player who is devastating to any defensive line when he gets going. When focused Michael blesses the team with dominant running which he supplemented towards the end of the year with some great lines. This allowed Michael to score some great tries. Well done Michael.

Noah Raish: The most well-mannered and quietest kid in the team. A pleasure to have in any team and a great player to boot. Raishy possesses one of the best palms in the comp, to go with his strong running. We love when Raishy got angry on the field because it meant opposition players were sat on their backside.

Kai Summerland: When he gets his legs pumping, big Kai is a formidable runner and hard to stop. Kai showed us as his confidence grows he will be one of the strong men of the team for the future. When Kai realises his strength any opposition will hate to play against him.

Xavius Wilson: Another well-mannered kid who loves a smile. X is another player whose level of strength is beyond his years. His mistake free footy is an asset to the team on the back of tough running that often took defenders with him. Great year mate.

26 MANAGER’S REPORT

I have thoroughly enjoyed managing such a wonderful group of boys. As their manager over the past four years I've seen their skills develop and it's been such a pleasure to be a part of their football careers.

We had a very exciting year representing St Christopher's at two Bulldogs games at ANZ Stadium: once playing at half time and taking part in the second half guard of honour, and the other time we formed the guard of honour at the beginning of the game. Our team was also lucky enough to get a visit from “The Big Marn” and be on The Footy Show’s “Small Talk”, where James and Ronny entertained us on “Brain Strain”.

A big thank you to our coach Gary Phillips, and trainers Matthew Dawes and John Kitiona for helping to develop the boys’ skills and teach them the value of team work. Each week your hard work, patience and endless encouragement is very much appreciated by the boys and their parents alike. This also brings me to the parents, grandparents and siblings... thank you for bringing the boys to training and supporting them at their games each and every week.

Thank you to our team sponsors DYNA Construction, your continued support for our team is very much appreciated, and to Alexander's dad Elie for supplying the kids with their Man of the Match medals.

Also I want to thank all the parents and grandparents who helped by being at our home grounds early and jumping on the BBQ and in the canteen - your help doesn't go unnoticed. The club can only run as well as it does if we get involved and volunteer our time like you do down at Bill Delauney. So thank you for everything.

I am constantly amazed by the amount of time our clubs officials voluntarily dedicate to the club and it shows with all the hard work you put in. I am grateful for all the many friendships I have formed with wonderful people over the past few years as a result of being actively involved.

PLAYER PROFILES

Badwee Boulos: New to our club this year, Bob used his size in the forwards and made some bustling runs with the ball. He proved to be a versatile player in each position he played.

Ronny Boulos: Ronny’s first year of rugby league (former soccer star) saw him welcomed by his new team mates. He’s the funny kid of the team who always has a go. He showed his kicking ability early on in the season converting four goals. We hope to see you back on the footy field in 2017.

James Dawes: An enthusiastic and supportive team player, James is eager to train and play every week. He improved over the season and scored his first try in Round 4, which of course gave him the motivation to do it again. Keep up the good work James and we’ll see back in 2017 for an even better season.

Alexander Ganeme: Alexander is a great runner out of dummy half, and a good team player that can slip into any position on the field. See you back in 2017.

Joshua Hanney: A very determined and great team player. The season saw Josh’s game improve immensely with some outstanding tackles, tries and goals. Keep up the good work Josh.

Michael Kitiona: Michael is the quiet achiever, with a great eye for the game and always showing a lot of dedication in both defence and attack. He has some great ball skills and a good understanding of the game. Michael scored some good ‘length of the field’ tries this season. Keep up the good work and we’ll see you back at Bill Delauney in 2017.

Lachlan Marshall: A very enthusiastic player who always takes to the field with boundless energy and ready to have a go. 29 MANAGER’S REPORT

Another fun year at St. Christopher’s. We didn’t get the results we wanted, but to all the boys that made the effort to train hard and turn up each week, I thank you. Thank you to the parents who helped out before each home game, it’s good to know the regulars are there to help when they can.

Well done to the St. Christopher’s committee on another well run year. The effort and hard work is appreciated so that our kids can concentrate on enjoying their footy.

PLAYER PROFILES

Christopher Ayoub: Potential wrecking ball, Chris was a very strong runner and when he choose to run straight was hard to stop. With more experience Chris has the potential to become a real force in the game.

Jake Bender: Jake had such a brilliant start to the season that he caught the eye of the U9-1’s coach. Without managing to negotiate a transfer fee Jake was transferred to the upper level. His straight running and deadly defence was most certainly missed.

Ashton Bou Mansour: Small in stature, big in heart. Showed great line speed with a great step. Impressive first year and certainly in the mix for the Rookie of the Year Award.

Bashir Boulos: First year at the club and once settled in showed what he was capable of. With more training and commitment has the potential to develop into a very talented footballer.

Alexander Bruno: Great player and ever reliable at dummy half. Alexander always did what was asked of him. He scored a number of clever tries at dummy half and for a small player he certainly played well above his weight.

Brodie-Jay Penman: Very quick off the mark and a very dangerous side step. Brodie always performed well and was great at steering the team around the park when playing at first receiver, and was strong in both defence and attack. Brodie was a worthy winner of the Best Back Award.

Aaron Klem: Often the smallest players on the park, but the biggest tackler. Aaron’s defence this season was a standout most games. He is fearless in attack and defence, and possesses a great kicking game.

Noah Morse: Very tough, especially when fired-up, and an excellent defender. Noah had great determination and a very competitive streak, improved every week and will be dangerous as he gets bigger.

Zac Taleb: Zac was another very strong runner and when running straight was hard to stop. Great tackling skills and good understanding of the game.

Rhys Gitsham: A slow to start to the season, but once finding his confidence showed he could tackle anything when in the right frame of mind. A turn of pace that must have got from his dad certainly helped him score a couple of great tries this season.

Edan Wallace: Standout winner of the Best and Fairest Award, Edan was also the leading point scorer in the entire U9-2s. He is a very talented footballer who has great vision and proved very difficult for the opposition to contain.

Justin Tannous: Another first year player challenging for the Rookie of the Year Award, the “Wrecking Ball”, his barnstorming running style left a trail of destruction on the field many times.

Leon Rizoglou: A team leader who thoroughly deserved the prestigious Coach’s Award this season. Leon is a natural footballer with great vision and real feel for rugby league. 30 UNDERUNNDERDER 9 Div 1 – FINFINAFINALIINALISTLISTS

Once again thank you to our Committee who put in endless hours behind the scenes to keep this great club running. Finally thanks to the boys who made us so proud each weekend by putting in such a great effort over the season and hopefully next year we can go one better and make the Grand Final.

PLAYER PROFILES

Patrick Forrester: Our captain courageous. Patrick is a great player with a great attitude. He works hard in defence and is never one to stand back as the big forwards hit the ball up as Pat is a great legs tackler. As the team’s first receiver, Pat is a great ball player with great skill for someone his age. Pat has the ability to steer his team around the park and this has seen him setup a number of tries and even get a few himself.

Lucas Pengue: Lucas moved from the hooking role this season into half back. Lucas has great skill in knowing just when to be there and when to even have a go himself. Lucas has a great step and also the ability to deliver the ball well to his team mates. Lucas is a great defensive player and is never scared to get in front of the big blokes.

Zeedan Wilson: Zeedan is without a doubt the team’s defensive work horse. It was not uncommon to see Zeedan make on occasions three consecutive tackles in a defensive set. Zeedan puts his body on the line each and every week and gives 100% each week. Zeedan moved into the hooking role this season and this move saw him become without a doubt the best dummy half in the 9’s competition.

Noah Weir: Noah found his spot this season on the wing and knows exactly where to be at the right time. As one of the speedsters of our team, Noah made great metres from kick returns and also plenty of metres when he backed up the bigger fellas. With his pace, Noah often chased down ball carriers that got through the defensive line. Noah showed how capable he can be in defence when he gets his body in front of the ball carrier.

Matthew Fitzgerald: Without a doubt the team’s utility player. Matt has great ball skills and a great pair of hands. Matt is able to play all positions on the field when needed. Matt has shown his ball skills on a number of occasions to set up a number of tries for his team mates this season.

Ayrton Lutau: Ayrton was new to our club this season. Ayrton is a quiet kid, but within a few games he came out of his shell. Ayrton runs the ball hard and knows how to tackle the big kids. Ayrton works hard at training and this showed in his vast improvement in his fitness throughout the season, this then reflected in his game.

Itula Seve: Itula runs the ball like we have come to expect every time and is a great defensive player. Itula has the ability to get up off the line fast and put a player on his back with great force and power. He also has great skill at getting through the line in attack and this season saw him develop a great offload into his game. Itula is a brilliant young player with a big future in this game.

Javanie Puhara-Gillies: Another new player to our club and aren't we lucky to have him. Javanie has a great step and pace to burn. Javanie is capable of putting on the big hits in defence and is a great team player. Javanie works hard on his skills at training and will continue to develop into a brilliant player.

Isaac Mikhail: New to our club and team this season, Isaac made a massive impact. Isaac has great attacking skills, with a great step and fend. Isaac has the ability to get through the defensive line, often with ease. Isaac works hard in defence and is a great asset to this club and team.

The boys held their ground throughout the game except when they were getting ran over by this kid, but the boys never gave up. This I would have to say was one of our best qualities throughout the season - no matter the odds, the boys always kept giving their best no matter how hurt, tired or cold they were.

Needless to say the boys didn’t get too rattled after this game and we had a pretty good run into the semis. Some rough victories, but a win is a win and we ended up fourth on the table at seasons end. We kicked off the preliminary semis against Bankstown Sports who for the first half looked like they were going to give us a run for our money, but during half time and after receiving one of Baz’s emotional uplifting spiritual “chats”, the boys came out with all engines blazing and we ran away with a very convincing win. This would help boost our confidence against Chester Hill which surely would be a battle of the titans again.

Semi-final time and wow, was it a semi-final to remember! Like always the games against Chester Hill were extremely tough, and boy, didn’t we give the comp winners a tough game on their path to the finals - we only went down to them by two points and in the second lot of extra time. Every single one of the boys played their heart out in this semi, which ended up being a very physical affair, pushing the boy’s toughness to the limits. Unfortunately the game didn’t go our way.

A lot of this wouldn’t have been possible without the great coaching and training staff behind the back bone of the U10-2 footy machine. Barry Sullivan for implementing his vast coaching skills upon the boys to turning them in to the great little players they are becoming. Sean Khoury and Greg Marshall for being what I think are some of the best trainers going around in the club and passing down their footy knowledge that both of them have. The boys are very lucky to have all three of you there behind them throughout season, forging them into a fantastic bunch of footy players. To my partner Kellie, who stepped-up to fill the manager’s shoes when I was unable to be there during the year, thank you. And to all the parents who consistently would help during training, Dads on BBQ duty and those mums that stepped-up and helped out in the canteen, it didn’t go un-noticed.

PLAYER PROFILES

Bassam Al Arab: One of the new comers to our Club and team, Bassam has a lot potential. We really started to see great improvement at the end of the season and he showed us how to run over the top and through the defense. Dubbed the Smiling Assassin by the training crew, no matter what Bassam copped or dished out on the field, he always walked away with smile on his face. To top it off he was a pleasure to coach.

Patrick Delinicolis: The Velcro Man! Tell you what, when Pat gets a hold of you - you never get away, and that’s a fact people! Pat’s defence vastly improved again this year, and like last year he was one of our rock solid defenders who understood the importance of his role and position. When he was on the field, he was right amongst it and always giving it his best. This kid has the potential to be up there with the other “tuff” men in the team.

Mohammed Elesh: A returning player to the club after year off, Moh started the season off a little quiet, but once he found his sweet spot in first receiver things really shifted out of first gear for him. He soon became one of the star players for the team, whether setting up tries with those chips or grubbers (that Baz was forever telling him not to do and causing some serious hair ripping moments), or leading the charge with tries of his own to become third in the try tally.

Marcus Khoury: Found himself as one of the main go to runners of our team, taking charge every game and working hard up the middle of the field. This was a change for what Marcus had previously been doing, but like always he took it as challenge and excelled at it to boot! With this Marcus had a great season, not only in attack, but his defence also greatly improved. Then we have Marcus’ goal kicking, he quickly became Baz’s go to man for kicking those conversions that really counted, never cracking under pressure no matter what.

35 Logan Lake: if anyone ever describes a work horse for a team, Logan is it! Continuing upon his great defence that started to show at the end of last season, Logan became like a human wall for the opposition and pretty much always topped the tackle count each game throughout out the year. And not forgetting to mention many of those tries Logan denied the opposition when we were backed onto our try line. Logan also started to become a great utility player during the year, able to fill most roles Baz needed him to cover.

Isaiah Lee: Had another great year with us, proving what the little guys are capable of. Isaiah found his sweet spot coming out of Dummy half and on the wing, always doing well in both attack and defence. I can certainly say he definitely knows his way to the try line. Isaiah became a little quiet on the field during the end of the season, but this kid is oozing with plenty of potential and if the rate of improvement continues from last year to this year to the next, we’re going to have a great player on our hands.

Zachariah Maarbani: One of our true tough men, Zac always had an impact out on the field regardless of how long he had been out there. Being one of our go to forwards, Zac never failed to impress whether in attack or defence. Unfortunately for a few injuries and a globetrotting adventure overseas, we didn’t see Zac out there as much as we would have liked to. Hopefully we’ll have Zac back next year, fully fit and ready to go. Like I’ve said before, one of our real danger men out on the field.

Thomas Marshall: Wow what a season this kid had. One of the star players for the team, Tom was like a cattle dog out on the field, but instead of rounding up sheep non-stop he was out there terrorising the opposition. Whether it was scoring tries out of dummy half, chopping down players twice his size, running around and through players he did it all. Tom did an outstanding job as our main dummy half this season with the ability to turn a game around in our favour. He was one of our true impact players, top scoring for our team this season.

Lucas McAndrew: My #1 main man, Lucas was taken out of his comfort zone this season to help him try and focus on other areas of the field besides dummy half, usually now finding himself out near the wing and facing some big opposition. He eventually started to find his potential in defence and attack that Baz had been pushing so hard for him to find. Using his small size and speed to side step players, drawing opposition in when passing, knowing when it’s time for him or the big boppers to run. Baz and I are happy with his ability to improve and look forward to new challenges with you next season.

Archie McGowan: Mr Energetic, Archie loved to train, loved to run, loved to kick, and especially loved to talk. Another welcome addition to our growing roster at the club, Archie had a good season, starting off very prominent out on the field in attack and defence. Early on he found himself as a new force at fullback, chasing down those that managed to get through our other players and did an excellent job at getting the ball back up in the opposition’s half. Archie also has a lot of potential and let’s hope we get to see that in the coming years.

Cameron Oshea: Ultimate wing man! Cam really shone through this season as our specialist winger, shutting down any attack that came sniffing around his side of the field with great effect that shut down any plans the opposition had. Cam also showed a lot of talent out of first receiver with this craftiness that you rarely see in players that age. And I have to make a special mention - if there was an award for a player that had the most tries disallowed you would be the one to get it -not only for our team or age group, I reckon the whole entire Canterbury-Bankstown district.

Benjamin Pittman: Ben’s natural athleticism has always helped him be one of those standout players, and like always is an absolute pleasure to have on the team. Another of our fullbacks. Ben always managed to get the ball right back up there, and also make those devastating runs up the wing and score some of those important tries. Unlike Ben’s great attack, his defence and position awareness suffered this year by only making a hand full of training sessions. Looking forward to having a full season to unlock that great ability you have.

James Rose: The boy from way out west, James joined us about half way through the season and became a very welcome addition to the team, showing the boys how the real tough men do it. 38 After completion of the rounds we ended up finishing third on the ladder and had two bites at making the Grand Final again. Our first semi was against Tigers and for anyone that witnessed the game I’m sure they would agree that it was one of the toughest and gutsiest games we played. Down 12-0 with ten minutes to go we levelled the scores and were coming home the stronger team. Unfortunately they scored a try with 10 seconds on the bell after a dubious penalty for a strip allowed them crucial field position. The boys were heartbroken, but we knew we had pushed them like no other team has done before, and as a coach I was happy with the boys and their efforts. We bounced back the following week and gave Berala a lesson in league and we cruised to a 36-12 win to secure our spot in the final against Chester Hill who were the Minor Premiers, but lost their first semi against the Tigers.

Right about now I wish I could stop writing this report because unfortunately for us we were knocked out in the Final by Chester Hill who played as good as they possibly could and we, not so. It seemed that everything that could go wrong did go wrong and we just couldn’t get into the game. Uncharacteristic mistakes and missed tackles cost us dearly, but that’s football I guess. Some weeks it happens and some weeks not. It just wasn’t our day.

In saying that I will say that as a coach I was extremely proud of the boys for what they achieved this year. Division 1 is a tough competition and you boys did a fantastic job week in and week out. To finish in the top three again is a fantastic achievement and you should be very proud of your efforts. I have always said to you that if you give one hundred percent in everything you do then no one can ever say anything to you. So thank you boys for your efforts this year and I hope you all come back to try your luck again next year. Hopefully we can do it together and take home the big prize.

I would like to make a few special mentions to my team of helpers this year. Firstly, my two trainers Norm (1) and Tony (2) haha. Thanks to you two boys for all your assistance with training, game day prep and your friendship in general. I could not coach the boys without your help and it is greatly appreciated, even though sometimes I get angry and bossy. Your knowledge of the game has helped our boys become a great little football team. A big thanks to Richard for his managerial skills throughout the year, attending meetings and doing the game day stuff that no one likes doing i.e. timekeeping, and for always listening to my rants and constant calls. Sometimes he confused me, but we always got there in the end. Thanks mate.

A big thanks as always goes to the parents for again putting your trust in me as a coach and giving me your full support. Every week I make decisions that affect our little boys and these are never taken lightly. Sometimes I get them wrong. But you guys have always given me the support that a coach needs.

Lastly I would like to thank the greatest club in the Junior league – St. Christopher’s. It is always a pleasure to be involved with great people and our club is full of them. Bring on 2017.

PLAYER PROFILES

Joshua Dunn: Centre/Wing. After taking out our Most Improved Player last year Joshua again proved his value in our team. A tough kid who was always ready to give his best, often tackling himself to a standstill. Elusive with the ball when he got his chances we could always rely on him to do his job. Josh has now really started to understand his role in the team and will develop into a great centre and will definitely be one to watch.

Ellias Papadopolous: Wing/Second Row. Elias is one kid that if I could get his full focus at training could become a great little footballer. One of the toughest kids in the team who would put his body on the line at times and take on the biggest players, knocking them to the ground. He fears no one (even the coach) and when he was on his game scored a couple of nice tries in the corner. Push yourself mate because you can do it.

James Mckenzie: Wing/Hooker. James made the switch to us this year from Colts and fitted in straight away. Played a rotating role on the wing and hooker and never missed a beat. Great service from dummy half saw him work well with the halves. You also won’t find a tougher kid who’s fearless, uncompromising 39 defence had me speechless at times. James also scored some great tries on the wing and was a pleasure to coach.

Logan Collinet: Wing/Hooker. Another good year from one of our dummy halves. Logan always gave great service to his outside halves and could always be relied upon to be there at crucial times. Solid in defence, he always made the tackles that counted and was always in the action. Size is a major factor now with him giving away many kilos to the opposition, but he never let that stop him and he always put his body on the line.

Diazhye Tipene: Second Row/Hooker. Another new player to the team who made the switch over from Hurstville United. A solid kid who always worked hard for the team. His no fear, no nonsense approach to the game saw him become a valuable team member who always made metres with his runs. Defensively very strong, he often stopped players in their tracks. Once he comes out of his shell he will be one to watch. Well done mate.

Liam Walsh: Halfback/Five Eighth. Another great year from one of our halves. Great service and direction for the team starts in the halves and Liam provided that every game. Always took the line on well and made plenty of inroads around the ruck, often resulting in some great tries. Defensively strong, he was often our last line of defence and he almost never missed. Liam was our leading try scorer this year, so well done. Took out our highest point scorer this year.

Mitchell Rowles: Front Row/Centre. Another solid year from Mitch saw him be one of most consistent players in the team. Mitchell made a ton of meters in attack and was rewarded with some excellent tries. Played equally good in both positions and was always doing the hard yards up the middle when the team needed him most. When Mitch uses his size and strength he is very hard to tackle, and the opposition certainly know when he tackles them.

Jack Hanratty: Half Back/Five Eighth. Another good year from our captain. Jack was at the centre of many attacking raids while directing the team across the field. With his good organising skills the team was able to work our set plays and make valuable yards up the field. Has a great kicking game and the team scored many tries from his neat little kicks behind the line and from his sharp passing game. He was heavily marked this year which is a sign of respect.

James Safi: Second Row/Centre. Again one of our most consistent and feared players this year. James again led from the front with his fearless approach to the game. Tackles like a man possessed and runs like a freight train. James has no thought for self-preservation. A team always needs a player like James to lead by example and lay the platform for his team. James did this consistently every week without fail.

Adrien Safi: Front Row/Second Row. What a season from the big man. Adrien took it up another notch this year and led by example all year. He is one of the best and most feared forwards in this competition and he often bashed his way through the opposition with his bullocking runs and bone breaking tackles. To see him at full flight this year was outstanding and many opponents moved right out of his way. Rewarded this year with our Best and Fairest award. Well done Adrien.

Kian Todd-Bonselaar: Centre/Five Eighth. Again Kian proved his value to the team with plenty of work every week. Gets through a ton of defence in the centres and was extremely effective at controlling the opposition when they spread the ball wide. Kian has a great attitude to training and this has shown out on the field. He is his harshest critic and when he gets his angry head on you better look out. Will develop into a great centre.

Zac Porter: Hooker/Wing. Played equally as good in both positions and has become a valuable team member. Zac’s defence this year improved out of sight and whether on the wing or in the middle of the ruck you could count on him to make the important tackles. Gave great service to our halves as one of our dummy half options. Zac was one of our best trainers this year and was always eager to listen and learn. Took out our Most Improved Player this year. Well done Zaaaaaaaaaac.

42 Throughout the season the boys bonded well and became great mates. This was seen on the field when they had each other’s backs. They cheered when one of them played well, and were supportive when things went wrong. They developed strong skills and fit well into their positions whether it would be hard running and tackling, or quick dashes and try saving tackles. Each week the boys improved and each of them stood out in their own way throughout the season. By the end of the year the boys had turned into a great team having a lot of fun and being highly competitive and supportive of each other. All of this was definitely due to the hard work of our coaching team. Sam, Adam and Mathew who always put all of their passion into developing the boys throughout the season, keeping the boys focused on what they needed to do on the field and pushing each one to achieve their personal best. Nothing was ever too much for these guys, picking up boys and getting them to training and games, getting them home, and whatever else it took to look after the boys. Thanks guys.

I would also like to extend a big thank you to all the parents whose help before the games and at raffles is much appreciated. The St, Christopher’s committee is also very deserving of a huge thanks as their hard work and dedication is what makes the club so great. Finally, to the boys who turned up every week to training and played hard on the weekend, showing their commitment to the game, coach, trainer and to their teammates. I am sure I speak for all the parents when I say how proud we are of their great efforts this season.

PLAYER PROFILES

Abdoulaye Bah: Abdoulaye was in his second season of football and has developed into a great player. In defence his skills as full back were spectacular, placing himself well and rarely missing a tackle. In attack regularly moving into the forward pack he ran the ball up hard and given space raced away, making him the highest try scorer for the year.

Nouredeen Bahsa: Nouredeen returned to us this year and immediately the happiness to be back in his old team was obvious. While he worked on his endurance and skills at training, he again developed into key member of the team. In defence he is truly great to watch as he continually puts his body on the line and cuts even the biggest players in half and drives them backwards. Later in the season he played a great role in dummy half and ran rings around the opposition.

Hussein Chami: Hussein is the captain of our team being the best all-round, season long player, being solid in both defence and attack. He consistently played hard and lead his team from game one of the season. He has embodied the mateship within the team, always looking out for his teammates, and his passion is clear when he plays and shows true grit and determination in all of our games.

Matthew Cutrupi: Matthew is a quiet achiever who never says much, but shows he’s been listening when it comes to the game. He protects his wing with passion and pulled off some amazing try saving tackles along the sideline. When given the ball Matthew is a slippery character, stepping and sliding through tackles to take valuable metres and setting up some great tries.

Abdulkarim Elcheikh: Abdul joined our club this year and played up an age group to join our team. Being the smallest player in the team meant nothing as he continually put his body on the line as he cut down even the biggest players. While it took a bit of time to find the best place on the field for him, he continually put everything into his football. With the ball he proved a hard guy to catch and consistently sneaked across the try line making him one of our top try scorers.

Cooper Hanney: Cooper has to be the happiest player in the team, who rarely speaks, but always has a smile on his face. Working hard at training and always bringing his best to the game. Cooper lifted his attacking skills this year, spending a lot of time busting though the oppositions defence, scoring several critical tries this year. In defence Cooper continued to improve, pulling off some bone rattling hits during the season.

Bailey Julian: Bailey plays and trains with immense enthusiasm. He is always raring to go at both training and game day. When properly motivated Bailey is an absolute weapon on the field, as we saw in the 43 grudge matches against the Colts. He always seized any gap provided by the opposition and converted many into points. In defence his skills have continued to develop and along the sideline he pulled off some great tackles to stop the opposition.

Ryan Klem: Ryan returned to our club from the Shire in Round 6, and had an immediate impact in our side. His skills across the field are brilliant to watch. For a smaller guy he had no problems chasing down the biggest runner and bringing him to his knees. In attack he continually put together great runs, working well with other players to get across the line. When combined with his almost perfect kicking record, he finished the season as our highest point scorer.

Dylan Lowrie: Dylan joined our side this year for his first season of league. He came with a great attitude and learned the game very quickly. At training he always worked hard and took some big hits as he developed his skills. In attack he consistently showed a great mind for the game, picking up scraps from breaks in play and making valuable metres. In defence he worked hard and steadily developed his tackling skills and pulled of some great try saving tackles late in the season.

Daniel McCutcheon: Daniel had a great year quietly working hard in all parts of his game. Doing a great job in defence as he worked hard in the centres, consistently taking the opposition’s biggest guy’s head on and slowing their charge. In attack he always listened to the coach and ran hard, fast and straight up the centre, taking up some big hits. His awareness of the game has developed well with some great scrambling to clean-up a messy play.

Ryan Porter: Ryan’s game skills have climbed to another level this year, with him continually steering the team in attack and putting together some great plays to get himself or one of his teammates across the line. His ability to draw the opposition in before sending off a great pass was incredible to watch. His kicking game has equally stepped up with a near perfect conversion record and some great weighted behind play kicks yielding many a point for the team.

Cooper Sutton: Cooper’s skills progressed well through the season and he pulled off some great tackles at just the right time. He has developed his ability to move across the field into all positions and move the ball across the attacking line. At training and the game he is always eager and contributes greatly to the team’s motivation. Cooper has also continued his role of leading the boys in the winner’s chant – go Saints.

Xavier Zanzoul: Xavier returned this year running hard and hitting harder. In defence Xavier worked hard in the centre of the field and had some smashing tackles. He also showed his ability to pull off some great diving tackles, cutting down the opposition’s legs. In attack Xavier always ran hard, probing their line for a gap or weak defender to smash through, and when properly motivated by the trainer he could barrel though any defender.

MANAGER’S REPORT

I will keep it brief. To all the parents from this team, a massive THANK YOU for everything you do for your boys. I know that we have a fantastic group of families involved in this side, and that’s a credit to you all.

To the boys, you had a fantastic season on the field, and you represented yourselves, your team, and your club with pride and respect. Be proud of yourselves, each one of you are AWESOME.

To all the siblings, relatives, training partners, ball boys, and anyone else that helped the team throughout the year, a massive thank you to you as well. But especially people like Adam Shields who was our camera man and Rusty Todd, who helped with training and drills, the whole team appreciates what you do.

And finally to the coach Anthony, and trainers Charlie and Sal. Your efforts with the boys are exceptional, and I know exactly how hard we have worked together to achieve a goal that was set three years ago. Enjoy the offseason, and let’s come back ready to keep working with these amazing boys.

Charnze Enoka: The LeBron of the comp, a joy to watch and the best ball runner I've seen at this age. Next season lets work on your ball carrying arm and your play the ball.

Fou Seve: When you run to your full potential carnage is the only word to describe it. Just need to work on consistency and positioning.

Murray Hardy: The best defender in the comp, phenomenal work rate. Next season need to work on running game and bump and lands.

Peter Assaf: One of our most threatening runners, best trainer in the team and hard worker. Next season, more attention on your passing game and more involvement in attacking zones.

Oscar Moseley: Leads from the front and our most aggressive forward. At his best running at the edges. Next season consistency is the key and maintaining dominance throughout the entire game.

Tommy Forrester: The Captain/general that guides us around the park, his organisational skills are the platform we build our game on. Next season be more forceful and work on short kicking game.

Christian Lopez: Solid defender with high work rate, always hungry to be involved in the action. Next season work on left shoulder defence and when/where to inject yourself into attack.

Marcus Sahyoun: Big improver this season, his defence has improved out of sight. Excellent groundwork and maintains our line speed. Next season need to keep improving and run harder.

48 Many, many thanks to all the parents who volunteered their help at home games - your help does not go unnoticed. What can I say? Thank you to our coach Paul for his time and efforts in helping the team to develop into great footballers. Their ball skills will return next year because of you! Our trainers Darren and Chris, thank you both for supporting our coach and passing on your knowledge to help improve our mixed team. It has been a pleasure and memorable experience for me working alongside you guys as manager.

Bianca has played her last season with St Christopher’s and has thoroughly enjoyed her seven years with the boys. She will be continuing playing rugby league next year with a girls’ team, but tells me it will not be the same as teaming with you guys. She will always say “Go the Saints” because that’s where her heart has been from the beginning of her rugby league career.

PLAYER PROFILES

Jarrod Gray: Forward. Jarrod was new to our club and he did fit well into the team. After the first couple of rounds Jarrod started to shine, showing glimpses of what he was made of. As the season progressed so did he, a great season and a great base to work off next year.

Saadi Kourouche: Forward. Power, size, speed - these are great assets for a forward. Saadi throughout the season put these tools to work with some great runs through the oppositions defence. Another great season to build on.

Tommy Ravel: Half-back. Once again Tommy was given the job of steering the ship. Tommy’s communication in attack was an asset to our team and he played to the game plan, and in doing so he unselfishly always put his team first. He is a very special player in our team.

Jarred Torbay: Is one of our key attacking players. He has shown that he had grown in confidence, taking on the line in attack and also steering the boys around the field. He also took care of the kicking duties. Keep up the effort and thanks for a great season.

Bianca Cutrupi: Proved to be a solid and courageous player. A committed defender, she made big improvements in her tackling technique. Bianca also played a few games at dummy-half where she was a handful for the opposition. Thanks for a wonderful year.

Sean Foster: An all-round footballer can play any position he chooses. He generally found himself in the centre, but also played dummy-half in a few games. Thanks for another great year.

Steve Coble: Our gentle giant who loves to play. Steve always gave 100% at training and during all games. Great effort and keep up the hard work.

Elias Haifa: Elias had another solid year both in defence and attack. He floated between second-row and front-row. His defence was a key again this season. Keep up the great work.

Bailey Standaloft: A very good defender on the edges and out wide where anyone rarely could get past him. Also running the ball Bailey was rarely caught once he made a break. A fantastic and solid year.

Vincent Cassar: Centre and dummy-half. Vincent cemented himself in dummy-half. He loved running the ball hard just as much as tackling. A few injuries saw Vincent sidelined, but otherwise top year champ.

River Tuckett: Wing. Performed strongly on the wing for his team this year. He worked hard on his tackling throughout the year and we saw a great improvement in his technique. Great season.

Trent Bailey: A stand out performer right from the first training session this year. Defensively he is a damaging player who never showed fear. In attack his straight and powerful running meant he was able to punch holes and score plenty of tries. What a dominant season, well done.

Michael Fisher diligently recorded the team statistics at each game, giving me an important reference for planning. Our trainers Paul Forrester and John Gibbs were just fabulous, providing a depth of football knowledge, good humour and a reliable sounding board for player and team development. Sincere thanks to all of you.

It is well known that St. Christopher’s is the best run club in the district. Thanks to the Committee members who make is easy for the rest of us to play footy and enjoy a friendly club environment. My personal thanks to the club president who, after stitching me up with this coaching job when I thought I was having the year off, redeemed himself by providing me with weekly counselling (over a couple of cold ones) and drumming-up support from our club members to attend the Under 13’s semi-final.

MANAGER’S REPORT

As a team, most of the boys have been together for a long time, with a few new recruits this year. From the beginning to the surprising end of the season, cut short at the semi-finals with full support of a great group of parents, coach, trainer and boys, managing this team was a pleasure and so easy.

On behalf of the parents and the boys we would like to say a huge thank you to Jon (JD) for his commitment and dedication to coaching the boys. Without any of his own children in the team, it is a huge task for someone to take on the responsibility to give up time for training, game planning and game day itself. We had a number of washed out training days, however JD’s commitment to continue training either at the gym at Billy D, boxing or reflecting on previous footy games shows his dedication to try and get the upper hand over the next game’s opponents. The pizza nights, BBQs and State of Origin night out will all be memorable times for the boys who have continued to show their strength, support and sportsmanship not only as individuals but as a team.

Paul Forrester as trainer, thank you again for your commitment, support and your guidance as a positive role model to the boys, we all can’t thank you enough.

A big thank you to Michael Fisher for your commitment to the stats each week. Thank you.

Thank you also to the parents, grandparents and carers who helped out on the BBQ, canteen and at the raffles – your work never went unnoticed and we appreciate your valuable assistance in supporting the team and the club.

Of course, a club cannot be run without the support of the St. Christopher’s committee who work tirelessly to provide a positive footy environment and one that we are proud to be part of.

PLAYER PROFILES

Braidon Brito: Braidon played an outstanding role as team captain. He was a dominant force on the field in both attack and defence. He led his team mates by example and was well respected by them, and our opponents. He was deservedly called into the representative squad which is hopefully a sign of things to come. Congratulations on a great year Braids, sorry we couldn’t deliver on your birthday.

Alexander Passarelli: Alex had previously played in the front row, but was moved to the unfamiliar position of five-eighth in an attempt to give our backline more impact. He was an imposing figure on the field, making regular line breaks with barnstorming runs and causing damage with bone crunching tackles. He also tasted representative honours which were well deserved.

Michael Forrester: Our diminutive half-back steered the team around the park with great authority and awareness. Mick is a great trainer, has very good defensive technique and a clever short kicking game that often led to tries and repeat sets. He improved his backing-up of line breaks which, together with taking-on the line a little more, will lead to plenty of tries in years to come.

52 Daniel Jenkins: “The Warrior”, as he was known by the coaching staff, worked relentlessly from lock forward. He loved the rough and tumble in defence and did his job well in attack. Daniel is a quiet achiever who listens well to instructions and always delivers 100% effort. When our games were close and tough, we wanted him on the field.

Jonathan Delincolis: Jonno had a very good year at second row, making plenty of incisive runs and really aiming-up with some tough defence. He stepped-up as a leader, regularly giving pep talks to his team mates on game days. Jonno saved his best ‘til last, striking fear into our opponents with a cracking game in front of a big crowd during our semi-final .

Lucas Spasevski: An injury kept Lucas from joining the team until well into the season, but when he finally got some game time he made it count. He was a strong runner of the ball and became a very damaging defender. Another injury hiccup later in the season interrupted his progress, but Lucas earned a lot of respect as a very solid front/second rower.

Adam Taylor: Adam is a very good defender, tough as teeth with plenty of speed. He is another player who listens well to instructions and always delivers 100% effort. Adam alternated between dummy-half and wing, depending on our needs. He worked hard on his passing game which really improved his service from dummy-half.

Joe Faanoi: Big Joe is a real favourite amongst the players (and fans). He provided the team with some genuine size and an intimidation factor that is rare at St. Christopher’s. Joe was almost unstoppable from close range in attack, regularly getting us on the score board when we needed it. He also has strong defence and in several games his defensive efforts changed the course of the game.

Ondray Ayoub Maldonado: Ondray was a wonderful addition to the team. He had previously played elsewhere in the back-row, but his speed and confidence in attack and defence prompted a move to full- back where he was outstanding. His kick returns always troubled the defence and he usually stamped out any line breaks made by our opponents. A real gentleman who belongs at St. Christopher’s.

George Mangos: George was another welcome addition to the team who continued to improve as the year went on. He initially played at wing where we aimed to exploit his speed, but it was at centre where he showed his best with several tries scored from slicing runs and very reliable defence. Maroon and gold are definitely his colours.

Jack Fisher: Jack showed a lot of versatility, starting in the centres then moving briefly to full-back before settling into the back-row of the forwards. He applied himself well to all of these positons, showing great natural athletic ability and toughness. Jack was a handy goal kicker, loved to run off a little inside ball and always scored well in our weekly tackle count.

Harrison Georgakopoulos: Harrison missed most of our pre-season and with limited rugby league experience he had to learn the game and team patterns. He played at second/front-row where he made some good runs and had no problem with strong contact in defence. With more training and experience Harry will become more familiar with the team’s attack and confident in the front line of defence.

Riley Cornforth: Riley joined his team mates after the pre-season and had some work to do to claim his preferred position as dummy-half. He also filled in as half-back when needed and provided good service from the halves. He was also quick to pick-up and lead new tap-kick moves that we introduced.

Nicolas Ghilardi: Nicolas has plenty of speed and a fluent passing game, and he loved to run with the ball in hand. It took some time for him to adjust from five-eighth to centre, but he eventually settled into the role well. Nicolas became our preferred goal kicker, applying himself with practice to become the leading goal scorer in the competition.

Christian Ghilardi: Christian started the year at full-back where he was brave in defence and safe with kick returns. He moved to the wing so that we could use his speed and finishing ability at the end of the

55 Malakai Manoa: The team’s Captain had a mixed season. Injury limited his field time mid-season, but he was back to lead the team when they needed him. A natural leader and a fine player, I will miss coaching him next year.

Connor Osborn: Connor enjoyed himself this year, the opposition more to his liking. He was able to improve his game as the year went on and his confidence grew. In several games he really lifted this season and gave us glimpses of what he really is capable of.

Jon Pengue: Jon’s game this year continued to evolve, mixing a good team game with his own skill / style. Jon had a very good season, culminating in winning the Grand Final for us with a 70 metre solo try at the end of extra time, his run etched on my memory forever. A fitting end to a season full of hard work, dedication and sheer guts.

Dane Loutsos: Some kids are just born to play footy - Dane is one of them. As well as being the team’s top equal try scorer this year it was his defence that stood out for me. A classic cover defender he continually popped up all over the field this year, chopping down opposition players regardless of their size. He is one of the reasons the team went as well as it did this year.

Aidan Davidson: A good year for Aidan this year, his game management and tackling technique both improved, along with his kicking game. Tasked with guiding the team around the paddock he matured during the course of the season and I feel he understands what football is and how to play it better after this year.

Zac Butler: In his second year of football Zac built on his progress made last year. His level of physical involvement increased as his confidence grew. Forcing his way into the starting line-up, Zac always delivered what was asked of him and enjoyed himself doing so.

Ethan Carlos: This year we moved Ethan about a bit, it’s his own fault - he is very versatile. Starting at hooker he found himself at left centre where he performed a much needed defensive role for the team when they needed it. In the process he started learning a new job which I hope he likes, as he will make a very good centre one day – one of the hardest positions on the field in the modern game.

Jarred Howard: Showed glimpses of his potential this year, could be a good full-back. But the injury Gods were cruel this year, torn ankle ligaments and two breaks in his elbow and wrist cut his field time down this year. To his credit he continued to train and turn up each week and kept a buoyant attitude at all times. Shame he missed playing in the GF, he will have to hang around now.

Lachlan McAlpine: Another good year for this bloke who just keeps improving. Made Canterbury development, deservedly so. As the season progressed his game management improved along with his timing, injecting himself into attacking plays just when the opposition least expected it. Along with Dane he was the team’s equal top try scorer, but kicked plenty of goals as well.

Reily Dundas: A solid season, I think Reily enjoyed himself a bit more this year. It showed in his increasing confidence during the season, culminating in easily his best ever game in the GF where his defence in particular was simply outstanding on the day.

Elijah Taala: Last year Elijah missed a lot of football through injury. This year we got to see the real Elijah, week in week out our most consistent player – with and without the ball. A hard runner and an even harder defender Elijah definitely contributed to the team’s success this year.

Mark Kitiona: Again Mark’s versatility may have worked against him this year. Being able to play him pretty much anywhere Mark spent the season being shifted around covering for the many injured players we had. One week carting the ball up in the forwards, the next defending out wide, I feel Mark would benefit from the stability he would gain if left in one position for a season. A good club man, he just got on with it each week.

Our O r 201620016 59 season will be capped off with a boys' weekend away and before we know it we will be back together in February to do it all again and build on the positives of this season.

So thank you to a wonderful group of boys for the opportunity to help you do those amazing things on the field each week and for your commitment and respect to each other, your coach and trainers.

Thank you also to our coaching staff, Macca, Paul and Jaydn. Good coaches run drills, great coaches get inside their players' heads. More than once this year Macca took our boys from crushing defeat one week to sensational winners the next with methods so subtle the boys were not aware how it happened. I hope they appreciate your positive influence - because it is not lost on us, their parents. How fortunate were we to also have Paul, a State of Origin winning coach and Grand Final winning trainer, running out on the field each week calmly relaying instructions and keeping the boys on track. And of course Jaydn, our fourteenth player on the field, always there with a water bottle, tending to the injured, taking every opportunity to offer encouragement and advice to the boys and words of wisdom to opposing officials and refs. We were once again fortunate to have Tallat as our FAO - it is very reassuring to know we have someone so calm and experienced looking after our boys. Thank you also to Jenenne for willingly standing in when Tallat was not available.

To Shayne and Bryan thank you for watching most of the year's games through the lens of your cameras providing priceless memories and lasting proof of those crushing tackles, great runs and unforgettable tries.

Thank you to all our fantastic parents for a hassle free year, getting boys to training and our far flung games, for manning the barbie and canteen, for not running screaming every time I asked for money and all the other little things you might think went unnoticed.

And finally, thank you, to the committee and club members who work tirelessly behind the scenes just so our boys can enjoy a well-run game of footy each weekend.

PLAYER PROFILES

Luke Colley: Luke made the full-back position his own this year. While he was safe at the back having no trouble with the high ball and solid in defence, it was his attack out wide that came along where he was able to chime in and use his ball playing skills that continued to develop throughout the year. Topped off with some accurate goal kicking for a big year.

Leon Duryea: Leon was a late pick-up for us during the year and we were happy for him to come on board. Leon has the size to worry teams with good line running on the edge of the ruck and with his speed he really can be a handful. I think with more time Leon will realise his potential and gain that confidence in himself that can create damage each time he runs.

Moey El Arab: Moey as always goes at 100 miles per hour and as he gained more control in his game he became a constant headache for the other teams. As mentioned Moey would leave it all out there, some of his hits were bone rattling and he would never take a backwards step against any team.

Cooper Ellison: Cooper got shuffled around to just about every position this year, normally a hooker he ended up finding himself at five-eighth where he had to steer the team around. Cooper is one of those players who concentrates on doing the little things right and the hard work pays off. Also strong in defence and runs very good lines, he's the sort of player everyone likes having on your side.

Byron Foster: Byron took a while to get going this year with a late start through cricket and then an ankle injury it really put a delay on things, but as the cobwebs got blown out and match fitness started to come back he began to show what he could produce. Byron gave us extra options with the ball with good footwork and clever passing before the line and was always one to put his hand up when things got tough.

60 Josh Fuller: It was a huge effort by Josh not only making himself available to play up an age group he did it playing mainly in the forwards. Josh was a non-stop worker in defence and a good talker, he also started to develop extra footwork at the line with his running and with a bit more size will become a real handful. A real character of the side and always entertaining with his pre-game rituals in the sheds.

Josh Hannigan: Josh had an unbelievable season. He was the backbone of this side, the one we would turn to when we got in trouble. Josh’s competiveness always had him in the game, his work out of dummy-half and scoots from there were always dangerous and he would also always be one of the hardest workers in defence. Top stuff Josh.

Jayden Khoury: Unfortunately Jayden's season was hampered with injuries where he never could really string consecutive games together, but on his day he was a real leader of the side. A great defender and strong runner of the ball and was sorely missed throughout the year.

Hashem Masri: Being new to footy at this age is always a tough ask, but Hash showed a lot of determination to learn the game and improved each game as the year went on. Hash was a strong runner with the ball and always had to get numbers on him to pull him down, and as he learned his role in defence he became very safe.

Kieren Nguyen: Kieren is one of those guys you love to have around the team, never any trouble and always willing to learn. Kieren held down one of our wing spots where he read the game well and was able to get himself in a good position to help out and basically was really safe.

Jaidin Obeid: Jaidin took on the extra responsibility of captaincy this year which was a stepping stone in him controlling the game. Always fearless out there, Jaidin will always get through his fair share of defence, but sometimes didn't get as involved in attack as I would like. The more Jaidin got the ball in his hands and decide to take the line on, the better the team looked and hopefully he can take that next step to show what he can really do.

Krystian Papadopoulos: Krystian has the skill and speed to trouble anyone, but really needs to back himself more and play with the confidence he will get out of backing himself. Safe under the ball and a good defender Krystian started to show glimpses at the end of the year of what he could do when he had some game time at full-back.

Tevita Ratucadre: Tevita was a new pick-up to the team this year. He was a good talker and teams often singled him out as the guy to shut down. We started to see what Tevita really was about near the end of the year when he put his head down and not get caught up in the crap, he was a handful to pull down and was always willing to put his body on the line.

Christopher Rizoglou: Chris was a strong runner of the ball and was always fearless in taking it up. Chris rotated between front-row and second-row and developed the ability to run good lines off the halves. For some reason Chris’ second spell in a game always seemed better than his first where he would take advantage of the tired defenders topped off with some solid defence.

Michael Rizoglou: Michael has the ability to run an incredible line and looked like he was going through just about each time he touched the ball. Michael mainly played centre, but was a good back up at dummy-half, solid in defence and not bad in sniffing out the odd intercept.

Billy Ryan: Billy also took the step-up in playing up a year and found himself thrown into just about every position in the backline. Billy was probably best suited in playing in a position where he was able to create with a good passing game and ability to read the game, but just needs to gain more confidence in his defence and the rest of his game will lift with it too.

Karim Saboune: Karim was one of the toughest guys on the field. He would always go head to head with opposition forward packs and would never back down. Karim’s defence has always been strong with bone jarring tackles and his running game got better all the time with his ability to offload the ball before and after the line becoming a feature of his game. 61 JaJaydeaydenStephen Steephenshens: JayJaydJayden was alwaysalwayalways keenken tto ggetamong aamonongstgst it .Hece camcameameup with with somesome googooddsaves savson thethhe wwinging andndhis hi talktalk wasas alwalwayalwaysaysssolid. sol. 63 PLAYER PROFILES

Steele Brown: Steele was a very versatile player. He played anywhere from centre to the halves, hooker and second row and did a fine job in all these roles and never let his teammates down. A strong defender and great hole runner with the ball and always put in 110% every week. Well done on a great year.

Solomon Carter: Solomon was having a great season up until his injury, which unfortunately meant he missed the second half of the year. We really missed his energy and feistiness, when he came on to the field he really lifted his teammates. Well done on a great year.

Cameron Clark: Clarky was one of our strongest defenders. He played in the centres and hardly let anyone get on top of him. He played the game hard and also played injured because he didn’t want to let his teammates down. Well done on a great year.

Jack Curtin: Jack was in a position he wasn’t familiar with, but he never complained and formed a great combination with Clarky on our right edge and did a fantastic job in everything he did. Well done on a great year.

Daniel De Vecchis: Due to reps and a foot injury Daniel missed most of the year, but when he did play he made a big contribution in both attack and defence and I think the team would have benefited with him being there all season. Well done on a great year.

Dylan Elias: Dylan was a coach’s dream. He never missed training and he never missed a game and would put 110% into everything he did. Sometimes he might come off second-best, but he never took a backward step. Well done on a great year.

Aaron Gilbert: Aaron had a very mixed season due to work and family. When he was able to get to training and the games he was very solid in everything he did. Well done on a great year.

Scott Hannigan: Scotty never said too much, but did his talking on the field. He provided great service to our halves and would tackle anything that moved or throw his body in front of it. Well done on a great year.

Aidan Harrington: Aiden had a foot injury early in the season and ended up missing most of the year. Aiden always put in at training and on the field and I would like to thank him for the year. Well done on a great year.

Rhys Harrington: Rhys had a great season. He might be small in stature, but he has the biggest heart. One of our most lethal defenders and wherever I put him from centre to second row he did a fantastic job. Well done on a great year.

Connor Kelley: Connor was a very confident player, didn’t like training, but put 110% into every game. Whenever we were in trouble and needed a try, he always came up with the goods. Connor always seemed to be in the right place at the right time to get points. Well done on a great year.

Will Kerr: Will came into the team after a few rounds and made an immediate impact with his solid defence and good scoots out of dummy half. It was a shame to lose him at the back end of the season to the Under 20’s and we really missed his input. Well done on a great year.

Paul Kitiona: Kitty didn’t say much, but never missed a training session and put a 100% into everything he did. He played front-row and second-row and did a fine job at both and never let his teammates down. Well done on a great year.

Bilal Maarbani: Bill came to us late and really combined well with his halves and back-rowers. He was a very busy player. As our full-back his kick return always seemed to get us on the front foot and we usually finished in the opposition's half. Well done on a great year.

64 Salah Masri: Saleh was our front-rower and a true leader on and off the field. He was the guy that always put his hand up to take the tough hit-ups when needed. He never took a backwards step and tried his out heart every game. Well done on a great year.

Liam Mulvihill: Liam was our Captain and for good right. He was quietly spoken, but when he talked the boys listened. He played full-back and centre and did a great job at both. Defensively one of our best and could always find his way to the try line. Well done on a great year.

Nathan Nicolas: Nathan didn’t say too much, but he let his footy do the talking for him. He played in a few different positions and did a fine job in each of them, both in attack and defence. Nathan put in 100% into every game and always put the team first. Well done on a great year.

Brody Payne: Brody was a big part of the middle of the ruck, our tight four, and never shied away from a tough hit-up or putting his body on the line. Strong defender and quite handy when running with the ball. Always put in 110% both at training and in the game. Well done on a great year.

Austyn Pera: Austyn was our right side second-rower and he never let his teammates down. A strong defender and a great hole runner in attack, he was always asked questions from the defence and never made it easy for them. Well done on a great year.

Ali-Reda Saleh: Ali came to us in the first few rounds and made an impact straight away. Unfortunately Ali did his shoulder and missed most of the season, but when he did play he did a fine job in both attack and defence. Well done on a great year.

Cameron Sgouros: Cam was our front-rower and he always lead from the front. He had an on-going ankle injury, but always put in 110% into every game and never complained once. A strong runner of the ball and could pull off a big hit as well. Well done on a great year.

Evander Swann: Evander was a pocket rocket, small in stature, but very strong runner of the ball. It wasn’t unusual for Evander to bump-off two or three defenders and keep going. A solid defender who really came into his own late in the season. Well done on a great year.

Tavita Fesolai: Tavita came to us after the first few rounds and made an impact straight away, with either one of his big runs or a big hit. His input was always quality and for a big man had some good skills with getting a few nice flick passes away for tries. Well done on a great year.

Fatu Togagae Faanu: Fatu was my go to man. He could read a game like a half-back and new what play was needed. A short or long ball or just run through the line then neat little off-load, nine times out of ten it was the right one. For a big man he had some good skills. Well done on a great year.

Trey Brown: A talented hooker/half, Trey played with us last year and arrived back with us after completing SG Ball duties for Penrith. Played one game before being picked up by Cabra in the , and then to the Manly U20’s. Did manage to kick four goals for us and knows every road in Sydney!

Kieran Hayman: Due to reps, touch football and rugby union knockouts, Kieran only played one game for us. I would have liked to have seen more of him and I’m sure he would have made a difference to the team. Well done on a great year.
