6. Netherton Community Centre

JC reported that The Gatehouse will be moving to ‘The Hall’ building. Work has been completed to improve heating within the building and it is expected that new lighting will be installed outside the building. It is anticipated that The Gatehouse will use The Hall, starting next week, until September.

JC has found out that HKA CC should be able to use The Hall for our community council meetings also. EW will confirm this and find out about any letting charges.

NM also reminded the meeting that Phoenix Futures had offered a room in their building to hold a meeting. LM agreed that we have spoken previously about changing location of meetings to encourage a wider range of people to attend.

7. Clean Up 2019

LM proposed another community clean up to be organised in the Spring.

7.1 Residents present at the meeting suggested that the Mace Rd/Trinley Brae area is in dire of need of a clean up. They explained their efforts to get the council to cut hedging in that area to no avail. There has been some disagreement around whether it is the responsibility of the parks or roads department. Hedging has now not been cut since 2013 and is causing pathways to be dark, creating an area subject to flytipping and anti-social behaviour. The residents have since involved an ombudsman who has advised that this work should be completed by June this year.

It is understood that Cllr PC has previously contacted Land and Environmental Services about this matter and forwarded a reply to residents. However, it is now expected that the work will not be carried out until November. LM will contact our local councillors, attaching photographs of the local area and the letter from the ombudsman.

LM explained that HKA had previously considered Trinley Brae for a Clean Up but it was not possible. It is important to consider health and safety in regard to a Clean Up, especially given that we invite families with children to help.

David noted that Phoenix Futures has a Conservation Therapy programme, in partnership with the John Muir trust, and that he is currently looking at local parks and greenspaces that require enhancement. He will look into the possibility of improving Trinley Brae as part of this programme. David will update us at a future meeting.

HH suggested to residents that in the meantime they tweet or email photos of the area to the Environmental Task Force.

7.2 EW will forward information to David regarding the recently distributed Glasgow Food Growing Strategy.

7.3 EW noted that Glasgow Live had information about surface flooding. It suggested that a new initiative to tackle surface flooding was in place and a company has won a bid to work on it. EW will contact our local councillors to find out about action that could improve flood risk areas in HKA.

7.4 It was agreed that the HKA Clean Up will take place on Saturday 27th April, from 1-3pm. The route will begin at Phoenix Futures, then progress towards the Secondary School before returning to Phoenix Futures. HH will confirm route with GCC and request use of clean up resources for the day.

8. Planning for 2019

LM explained that there are a number of opportunities to support or plan local community events in the local area in the coming year.

8.1 There is expected to be a Spring/Summer fundraiser to help raise funds for Knightswood Primary School, St Ninians Primary School and Knightswood Secondary School. There is a Parent Council meeting at the Secondary School on Tuesday next week that LM will attend and will have the opportunity to discuss this

High Knightswood & Anniesland Community Council Meeting – 22nd January 2019

with the new headteacher and confirm that the secondary school building can be used for this event and to find out a possible date.

LM will report back to community councillors when it is confirmed that the head teacher is happy for this event to go ahead. A sub-group of community councillors and parent council members from each of the three schools can be involved in planning the event.

Funding will be required and it is likely that applications for the Area Partnership will have to be submitted before end of March. EW will find out future dates of the Area Partnership. HH also suggested seeking funding from the Glasgow Eco Group (formerly Dumbarton Rd Corridor).

It is likely that we will have to seek support from Glasgow Life (for sports coaches, games) and these will also have to be booked well in advance.

8.2 There is also the possibility of a community cookery event to invite different groups together. It was noted that there would be food hygiene and health and safety considerations to be mindful of which could make the event difficult to plan. David suggested a Bake Off could be easier to organise. It was agreed an event like this would have to take place later in the year, after the Spring/Summer fundraiser.

11. AOCB

HH suggested that old photographs of our local area are included in any updated version of the HKA website. LM will meet with Jeremy Bailey who set up our website to find out how to update/maintain it. NC will find log on details to access website and forward to HH. LM will also contact resident present at our previous meeting who offered to assist with the website. Meeting closed at 7.55pm. Date of Next Meeting Tuesday 19th February Location to be confirmed, Likely to be in ‘The Hall’
