Worship Pastor: Job Description

Job Context We have three main congregations on a Sunday: 9.30am, 11.15am and 6.30pm. They are different in style: while the music at the 11.15am is led by a choir and organ, the music at both 9.30am and 6.30pm is band-led. The repertoire at 11.15am is more traditional, but the music at the other services is mostly the contemporary worship music associated with New Wine (such as Rend Collective, Hillsong and Bethel Music).

To an extent the style of service and music reflects demographic differences: the congregation at 11.15am is mostly over the age of 60, the congregation at 6.30pm is dominated by undergraduates, youth and young adults, and the congregation at 9.30am is dominated by younger families and children, who used to attend the

6.30pm. Within these broad descriptions there are, of course, quite a number of exceptions! The role is intended to focus mainly on the two contemporary services, supporting the 11.15am only as necessary.

Purpose We have recently accepted an invitation from Winchester Diocese to become a Resource Church (essentially, we have agreed to become a church-planting church, aiming to build our capacity to the point where we can plant a church every three to four years). Rising to that challenge will require us to develop many more leaders than before, particularly among our worship teams. Your role would be to lead worship and to raise and release other worship servants and worship leaders.
